      I think it was just a quick video showcasing the way to use their product.
      Of course, if I were to DIY this, I'll try to make the patch work more neat and squared off instead of circular and left with tiny ledges. It'll be smooth. However, who is going to see this on a rooftop?

    Can you use this multiple times after you open the container? How long does it take for it to harden?

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Depending on how tightly the 19 pail is resealed and storage, i.e., inside in a 40 to 80 degree space apposed to outside in the back of a contractors repair truck, it can be several weeks to possibly months if not longer to harden in the pail.
      Depending on the KARNAK Asphalt Flashing Cement used, KARNAK Flashing Cement's such as #19 Flashing Cement, #19 Ultra Rubberized Flashing Cement and #155 Amphibikote (Wet/Dry) when applied will create a waterproofing asphalt layer and the material will skin-over within a few +/- hours. Depending on the ambient temperature, this skinning over time frame may be longer or shorter, i.e., (warmer temperatures will quicken the skinning over process).
      When flashing cement cures it will continue to have a "putty-like" consistency. This is the nature of roofing asphalt and is advantageous because it allows the repair sealant to expand and contract with the roof substrate." The curing process will continue depending on the thickness of the applied material and may take several weeks or longer. This process, as well, depending on the ambient temperature, may be longer or shorter.
      Once applied, either the KARNAK #19 or #19 Ultra or #155 will perform as designed throughout the "Skinning Over"/"Curing" process. Depending on the application, expansion/contraction movement and nature of repair, the flashing cement can perform for upward of several years or longer. This time frame can vary either longer or shorter.

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Keith Lau Yes, you can apply the reflective coating after applying this. (we make both Aluminum (silver) and Acrylic (white) reflective coatings). However, if you use this product, you will need to wait until it fully cures (about 30 days) before applying the reflective coating over top. If you use our 19 Ultra (a rubberized wet/dry flashing cement, shown in another video from our channel), you can apply a coating on top just a few days after making the crack repair. For more information, feel free to call our Technical Dept. at 800.526.4236.

      How large of a gap does Karnak 19 fill? I have approximately a 3/4" gap around a roof hatch that needs to be sealed. Would I need something additionally or just Karnak 19 would be sufficient?

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Karnak 19 (or any similar cement) will effectively fill gaps up to 1/16". To fill your 3/4" gap, first install "backer rod" (link below) until you get the gap to 1/16". The backer rod will serve to keep the cement in place while it dries, not allowing it to fall into the crack and render your repair ineffective. Once the backer rod is installed, you will use Karnak 19 to seal the gap fully.

      Do you have a product that I can apply to seal the entire roof as opposed to spot patching with Karnak 19?

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      The short answer to your question is no. No product exists that will fix leaks via a roll-on coating.
      Leaks must be fixed with a mastic or flashing cement (like this Karnak 19, among other Karnak products). However, a reflective coating (white acrylic or aluminum) should be applied to cover the entire roof after you have spot patched. This will stabilize the temperature of the roof reducing thermal shock, maintaining temperature inside the building, and making the spot repairs last much longer.
      For a more thorough explanation and answers to any questions you may have, please call our Technical Department at 800.526.4236.

    • @mraggravating9624
      @mraggravating9624 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Clinton Wurzbach If it holds water it's not properly done, no roof should be completely flat. Even what they call flat roofs should have a slight angle/grade to them to direct water to the nearest drain system

    • @whatsup3270
      @whatsup3270 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No roof is designed flat. your real question involves roofs to large to have a "single plane" slope. For example a one acre roof with a 3" (lowest slope) needs 53 feet of height added to the high side, and watch out for wind issues. So the method used is to pyramid shape the insulation between the drains. Fire Marshals and codes set the drain distances. Insulation is set in 2" lifts. Imagine a flat table, then add a pyramid shaped foam, and a sheet of plastic

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Sometimes the flat roof wears unevenly, creating areas prone to ponding. Proper draining is key to keeping your roof dry, you are right about that.

    • @KARNAKroofcoatings
      @KARNAKroofcoatings  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      All roofs have some slope, ponding water usually occurs due to damage done to the existing roof or areas of high traffic!

    I've had 3 roofers take my money over 8 years: The first one who put on the original, the second, (after the first one bailed on me), came back after the first few rains showed he really didn't fix the leaks and bailed on me, the third, actually did a good job and I called him back to fix another area, and after numerous calls and even 2 visits to the office never called me back and now his work is failing. I'm a little gun shy about handing over a few more thousand dollars to anybody else. Water ponds about 3/8" deep behind my scuppers. Will this product control standing water? Can it be built up to stop the ponding?

    • @michaelledford4751
      @michaelledford4751 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Brent Townsend most likely you'll just move the puddle farther away from the suppers using mastic to fill low spots ,1st off standing water isn't a bad thing unless it doesn't evaporate within 24 hours ,if that's the case then leave it alone ,the only way to know if you can move water to the supper by filling low spots with mastic is to stretch out a line from the supper to the high spot ,then see if the line has an equal gap under it ,flows backwards or lays flat on the roof ,if the line lays flat then you can prolly fill the low spot with half the thickness you think it needs and inspect after another rain.
