    Great Vlog. Problem is Westerners still ride horses in Olypics. Race them as a sport. But if Sri Lankans try to keep alive wounded or Domesticated Elephants in an Orphanage, they have a problem with it. Pinnawala dont rehabilitate elephants back to the jungle, thats done by the Elephant Transit home in Udawalawa. Pinnawala looks after the Old, wounded or over domesticated elephants that cannot servive in the wild. Feeding and looking after a herd of almost 100 elephants is not an easy job. Large funding is needed for that. The funds rcvd here will go for the upkeep of these elephants and other captive animals.

    In Sri Lanka regardless of religion or race, people love and respect elephants a LOT. If there was an actual abuse problem people would have protested heavily. Elephants are not pets and in certain cases they need to be chained for safety purposes. It is much better than them dying out in the wild and becoming endangered.

    • @NarasimhaDiyasena
      @NarasimhaDiyasena 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      In Sri Lanka, the punishment for abuse and death of an elephant is execution. The idea of abuse is a condition of western ignorance amplified by the media which make money off of views and thus are financially incentivized to make headlines that will make people feel outraged to get the trend going.

    Problem is most of the elephants in the orphanage are domesticated ones, and they nor their offspring would not survive in the jungle by them selves ..there is a separate rehabilitation center in Udawalawe, that caters for wild elephants and they do get released back to the wild....and thanks to the orphanage it has created a safe heaven for domesticated elehants which do not have any real purpose among people any more and it creates a economy surrounding it that helps the locals without it would have treated these animals as mere pests that destroy their crops....as usual SJW without seeing the full picture criticise things where ever u go..also elephants when their on musk they need to be chained otherwise they are a danger for them and other elephants

    Some elephants are chained due to elephant Musth. They are very aggressive in this period. I think people are not aware of this condition and just complaining about chaining.

Here in pinnawala these animals have a better life..Udawalawa is also place where injured animals being treated

    This organization' run,s by the ministry of wildlife of the government of srilanka.
    It's for a really worthy cause.
    Otherwise this massive beasts won't be alive today. Some unruly elephants have to be chained up for security of other elephants & humans as well as for there own safety. I have seen some tourists complaint about chaining without any knowledge about elephants behavior. It is very easy to criticise . But people of srilanka knows better how to handle elephants. Because these animals have been living in our country from very ancient times. And some privet elephant owners also runs elephants sanctuaries at pinnawala. Where they get tourist to ride elephants. That's really bad. Some western tourist s think elephants can be kept as pets like cats & dogs . They are wrong. These elephants can be very unruly at any time. These days it's not advice to go near animals because humans can pass the corona virus .
    Hope you have a wonderful holiday in Srilanka

      @ness4elephants984 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sorry but sadly Sri Lanka is years behind other range countries in terms of caring for captive elephants, there is no sanctuary in SL and all elephants are chained and managed with dominance and the bull hook. Take a look at some of the ethical facilities for elephants elsewhere in Asia and you'll see just how far behind SL is.
