Hi Shelby, we created these designs at Dona’s molds years ago! Back then, the people doing art shows and selling finished pieces were selling the items with faces for all seasons and at festivals, etc. The strawberry faces were a hit at strawberry festivals across America for crafters. A casting note-when casting containers with lids, usually the casting hole on the container should be trimmed in the mold following the casting hole with a fettling knife. That way the lids will fit perfectly. The flat area on the front is for locating the lid and aligning the pumpkin lobes. Glad to see your business is expanding and your creative style!
They look like little kids after the art teacher left the room for 5 minutes on a painting day. I love it! Here in Wisconsin, we see pumpkins and gourds at roadside stands in every shade of orange, green, white, and even red. I've even seen one that looked a dusky greeny-blue with big warty nodules on it. Fun fact: most of the canned pumpkin we use in recipes comes from either the deep orange flesh of a green-skinned kabocha squash, or a creamy-looking relative of a butternut squash called a Dickinson pumpkin.
@maryellengillin1906 I live in Wisconsin too. I'm always so inspired by the beautiful landscape, farms and especially pumpkin patches for designing my soaps.
Hello, Wisconsin! I saw knobby pumpkins at Tom Dooley’s orchard in Waupun. They have the best apple turnovers, apple squares and cider donuts. My husband bought a bag of Empire apples (his favorite). We buy pumpkins for the deer. After Halloween, my husband tosses them off our second story deck. It’s very satisfying to watch them splat. When the deer eat the pumpkin innards, it looks like they’re eating spaghetti. He grew pie pumpkins years ago that we used for pie. After roasting the pieces of pumpkin, I shaved the flesh off the rind to purée. I froze the rinds for our daughter’s dogs. They enjoy crunching the frozen goodness. Enjoy your autumn! Lots of rain predicted for our area. I love to think of the trees getting a good drink before winter. 🎃🎃🎃
I don’t super love the sculpted faces, and it does limit what you can do with the moulds, but you used it as a great opportunity to try out some new glazes and experiment with your craft which is always worth doing. I wonder if those glazes would be good for a yarn bowl, given that they aren’t food safe?
The pumpkin lids remind me of the flower hats you put on the ducks. I wonder if you could do pumpkin hats on something with the lids. The glazes are so much fun. I liked all the colours. The white was probably my favourite. I hope you find more ways to use it. The cracking sound was fun too
Oh what a cute idea if the hats could be interchangeable with the seasons the flower for spring and the pumpkin for fall and so forth if you came across more lid molds or maybe you could create your own. there’d be dress up ducks
I use Jungle Gems a lot in my work as well as a crystallized top glaze sometimes! The pinging sound felt so comforting in your video because it’s what I hear almost every glaze fire! And some of mine do ping weeks later! Lol! Loved this video per usual! The white and purple pumpkins were my favorite!
I liked hearing the pinging sound, too, although if I wasn't expecting it I think it would freak me out haha. It reminds me a little of waiting for your lids to seal after you've home canned something. 😂
I am 39, and grew up in England and Ireland. My dad carved turnips when we were kids, pumpkins just weren’t commercially available, it was very much an American tradition. I love carving pumpkins with my own kids, we weren’t allowed to carve the turnips as they were so hard!
I also got uncanny valley vibes when you first de-molded the faces but I really like what you ended up doing with them! The glazes you tried are so cool!
I'm such a messy person and I'm almost as impressed with how clean you and your workspace stay as I am with the pottery. You're always wearing such cute tops in your videos, I'd ruin all of my clothes lol But truly I love your videos. You've got such a sweet personality and you're an incredible artist.
as soon as you pulled out those lids i knew what was coming we sell those guys at our shop 😂 not the most popular 😅. also a lot of potters describe that pinging sound as singing pottery ❤😊
I actually do that with a candle warmer I have. It has a Christmas decoration on one side, but when I turn it the other way it’s a plain red, and works for more of the year. I could imagine having these cuties on a shelf with other produce like apples or pears, and only turning the faces to the front during October. :)
I would love to see the white speckle glaze on a regular mug, or a vase. The rainbow effect would be great for Pride. Did we ever get a unicorn? It would be so perfect for a unicorn! Or fairy wings!
I know this is an older video, but I'm so thrilled to see these revealed. my gran had these exact molds when I was growing up and I even have a set I painted myself when I was a child LOL
i wonder if you could make a duplicate of the back side of this mold, and then just stick the two backs together to get a plain pumpkin? the lids are still so cute though 😊
She has an old video on making her own molds and if I remember correctly… I think molds shrink when you cure/fire them. So, she could potentially make a smaller mold by making two casts of the blank pumpkin side and doing the same to the matching side of the lid mold so they all shrink equally and still fit. But I don’t think you can get the same side cast off an existing mold. Really intriguing idea though and I think a smaller version would be adorable!
Yes, I was also wondering about taking two back halves and putting them together to make a faceless version. Just love the glazes! I have fired glass frit on porcelain pendants before and I love the effect but I’m guessing it’s also why the glazes are fired at lower temperatures.
It could be really cute to use the lids with other cups and do 'woodland' themes! So the lid on top and maybe mushrooms on bottom or a mushroom pattern. Whatever you can think of!
I actually love the white ones, they’re like confetti ghost pumpkins🎉👻 The orange is another that I enjoy as a gardener because it reminds me of some of the warty pumpkins I’ve grown and how some pumpkins ripen dark blue/green to orange! I think the aqua/ blue combo could be great on a mug with a sculpture of an octopus going up the side or up the handle… or you could do corals. Basically I’m envisioning how you add on mushrooms to some mugs/ vessels/ plates but the sealife version with that glaze as a background. So much to play with here! Edit to add the yellow/ mustard glaze just reminded me of sand so you could maybe play with a sand and sea set!
If someone said to me I have to pick just one I couldn't. I have fallen in love with them all for different reasons. The sounds were so amazing I'm glad that got shared in the video.
Here are some more pumpkin/squash/butternut facts: 1. They are cousins to cucumbers / pickles / gerkins and melons (watermelons, rick melons etc ...) 2. They are a fruit, not a vegetable ... 🍉🥒🎃
The blue one looks like a man in the moon! I think the white one with all the coloured speckles is my favourite... It looks so much like the jawbreakers I loved as a kid!
Ooh these glazes are super cool! The crazing adds a fun texture, adding to the organic feel, and the last one makes me think of boulder opal. My favorite pumpkin fact is that they're technically berries.
The last clip with all the tops was my faves clip, would deff use those for mugs or cup toppers :) nothing worse then going to take a sip and a bug has decided to take a drink too haha I'm sure they won't drink much but a cute lid would be fantastic
Plain pumpkins would have been fun but these are adorable and much much less uncanny after you painted the faces on, definitly giving old school cartoon vibes
I love the faces on these pumpkins. The special glaze is so worth their character. I’d love this glaze on vases, figures, and plain lids of trinket boxes. My favorites are the two purple ones. Cheers from the Midwest USA. 💜
I loved them all. I loved that I could see them all in a different room of my house. The yellow one with black pepper specks for the kitchen. The blue one for the baby boys' room. The white ones for anywhere because the specks of colors would match with any of my rooms' color themes. So cute!
The faces on the pumpkins were a little unsettling but the glaze was so cool. I loved being able to hear it crackle. And I also really liked the idea of using the pumpkin lids on a mug. Perhaps it is good that you got two lid moldes as it give you the option to keep one if you decided to pass along the pumpkins to someone else.
I really love the ones where the stem and gloves match the splotches, it's very cohesive. I also think the brown one was the coolest for this shape, but I'm also really feeling the gobstopper ones! I would love to see you play with this glaze on frogs or lizards, but really any project that you think sounds fun would be great to see.
I would absolutely adore if you did either a compilation or a new video showcasing your most unique glazes on either your favorite pieces or just a test tile, I think that would be fascinating especially if you could explain how they work.
The blue and the white squinting pumpkins are my favorite. I like that face the best, the blue is gorgeous and I just really like the white with all the colorful speckles (if you are still thinking about making cake boxes... the white with colorful speckles would make for a really fun funfetti-style cake box.)
They turned out rwally fun! The lids can be so much fun to experiment qith. Just imagine adding butterflies or flowers and other details to match the mugs decorations. ❤
🎃 So Cool!! And the gigantic pumpkin was from last weeks N. California Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Fest. It's a beautiful small beach and farming town, which always becomes insanely overwhelmed during this event. I live about a 20 min. drive away, which takes hours during this time. And will never got again 😂
Just wanted to jump in and comment that you could purchase fusing frit and add it to any thick glaze that would hold it to make your own custom color combos. While the pumpkins are not for me I'd love to see you work with the glaze some more. And speaking of tiles, I'm surprised you have not rolled your own and decorated them. I'm sure they would sell well at the fairs. People can always use more trivet and the make for a great gift.
I love all of them! I live in the United States and love pumpkins in general. I've actually grown pumpkins and find so much joy watching them take over my front yard. Your channel has also brought me so much joy. Keep being your super sparkly self. You are fantastic! 🎉
I agree pumkins deserve some longer appreciation time. Its why im so adimant to hold back cristmas for at least half of november or till thanksgiving here in the US.
I actually like them, they remind me of the Flumps (UK kids show in the 70's I think it was), they are soo cute. I think the blue one is my favourite, love how those glazes turned out, looking forward to seeing you use them again.
Ooh I really love this glaze. If you had some little ghost moulds, that white would look perfect. ❤ can’t wait to see what else you do with this glaze in the future.

Love how the old ways are still the best ways in my opinion! Lol ! I appreciate your tips! ❤
I was thinking the same thing! Glad to know my instincts were correct, and the flag area should be preserved to keep the lid alignment. :)
Wow! It’s really great to get the history of these pieces, and to read the advice for Shelby. Thanks!
I remember seeing those kind of casted pieces when I was a kid. It was very liked at the time. ;)
The little lids would look cute as hats on the little ducks.
Oh my Gosh. They would!!

I noticed that too

Oooh I love this idea!
The white ones are my favourite, followed by the blue ... the orange ones look moldy to me, but that makes for a great Halloween aesthetic. 🎃
I think that one was my favorite!
The moldy looking one!
The pumpkin lids remind me of the flower hats you put on the ducks. I wonder if you could do pumpkin hats on something with the lids. The glazes are so much fun. I liked all the colours. The white was probably my favourite. I hope you find more ways to use it. The cracking sound was fun too

Pumpkins are an American fruit, caving them is an Irish tradition.
Pumpkins are definitely easier to carve since they are pretty hollow.
I'm 37 in England and have always had pumpkins, done trick or treating etc. It may have just been your area 🤔
39yo Scot here, also grew up with neep lanterns. Takes a sharp knife to do it.
I was thinking pumpkins have to be easier to carve.🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁
How can anyone be bored of you playing with glazes?! I love seeing the transformation!
The little white “ghost” one is delightful! 👻
That one is my
Favorite, too! So adorable! 👻
I love the mold with closed eyes the most. The brown one is my favorite too, but the blue one is giving me moon vibes.
I'd say just go with the Halloween vibe. Even if you don't like them, there will always be someone who'd love to buy them. :)
Love these cute pumpkin pots. Also, oversized pumpkins are grown on a platform, which is then used to weigh it when it's done growing. 🎃
I think they are ok, it's the hands that I don't like, I feel like they'd be way less creepy if it was just cute faces!
I agree … the only one that doesn’t bug me is the blue one’s hand placement
Really enjoyed the glazes and their outcome. I think the white one looks like bubble gum ice cream
I also got uncanny valley vibes when you first de-molded the faces but I really like what you ended up doing with them! The glazes you tried are so cool!

Those pumpkins are adorable ❤ you can turn them around and just look at the pumpkin side. The glazes give the pumpkins a vintage vibe

I could imagine having these cuties on a shelf with other produce like apples or pears, and only turning the faces to the front during October. :)
Those lids would make great hats on the ducks you made the flower hats for.
That glaze would look brilliant on a mushroom cap. So fun to see those outside in the garden.
These are so great! The glaze made so many surprises. I can't wait to see you use it on other pieces
I would love to see the white speckle glaze on a regular mug, or a vase. The rainbow effect would be great for Pride. Did we ever get a unicorn? It would be so perfect for a unicorn! Or fairy wings!

I had the same thought!
Great minds 😂

I love the 2nd to last lil guy with the blues. I must say they were much cuter once they were all done up. That glaze is actually a stunner.
Love the white ones🤍🤍🤍
I actually love the white ones, they’re like confetti ghost pumpkins🎉👻 The orange is another that I enjoy as a gardener because it reminds me of some of the warty pumpkins I’ve grown and how some pumpkins ripen dark blue/green to orange! Oh yes! The blue on an octopus! How about a starfish, or a sea urchin? And I think these glazes would be so GREAT on the mushies!

Those are darling! Your idea for Mug Lids is Awesome!
Here are some more pumpkin/squash/butternut facts:
1. They are cousins to cucumbers / pickles / gerkins and melons (watermelons, rick melons etc ...)
2. They are a fruit, not a vegetable ...
🍉🥒🎃
They’re berries, surprisingly!
also the fruit is a specialized type of berry called a pepo
I'm with you Shelby, those faces give me the icks. Which I guess is a good Halloween vibe?
Those glazes are incredible! I’m not into the faces, but the colors are so pretty 🥰
That last blue pumpkin looks like man in the moon. Love them!
I've not seen those chunks in paint before and was NOT expecting that result?? like WOW, especially the white one! 😍
The blue one looks like a man in the moon! I think the white one with all the coloured speckles is my favourite... It looks so much like the jawbreakers I loved as a kid!
You could totaly make a copy of the back half! and have that connect to itself! No more face!
The whote one with the closed eye smile reminds me of those smiling moons. It's really cute.
I love the yellow ones with all the tiny brown speckles. They look like freckled little kids!
Loved the music in this week’s episode!
Loved the way they turned out and the pinging sounds were so cute! Like little chimes! ❤
Ooh these glazes are super cool! The crazing adds a fun texture, adding to the organic feel, and the last one makes me think of boulder opal.
My favorite pumpkin fact is that they're technically berries.
I think these little pumpkin people are absolutely adorable. I love them ❤❤
love the white ones! and love the one with her eyes closed, the best out of the three!
These turned out so well! When finished, the faces were cute, not creepy at all.
I'm so glad you changed your mind about these adorable little pumpkins. I hope you experiment with other colors and glazes for them. They deserve it!
I think they are all cute!!!
❤️❤️❤️👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
I want a cute little punkin, They are so sweet!
I loved them all. I loved that I could see them all in a different room of my house. The yellow one with black pepper specks for the kitchen. The blue one for the baby boys' room. The white ones for anywhere because the specks of colors would match with any of my rooms' color themes. So cute!
The first yellow ones are my favorite. The white ones look like jawbreakers.
Those glazes would look beautiful on the croc mold. And frogs and birds but the brown spotty one would look so cool on the croc.
Blue and purple are my favorite colors, so the blue one and two purples are my favorites. I would love to have those 3 as a set on my bookshelves
🌝🌚 thats what these pumpkins look like. Good job on the colors though. It can be tough when the mold looks a way that cant be changed much.
Those glazes would look really cool as mushroom caps, ornaments for the garden 🍄
Oh, I love that brown/orange/green speckled one to the right.
You could use the pumpkin lids as little hats for cute critters ❤ or make pumpkin coffee cup out of them? Maybe a coffee service set.

I would absolutely adore if you did either a compilation or a new video showcasing your most unique glazes on either your favorite pieces or just a test tile, I think that would be fascinating especially if you could explain how they work.
My favourites are the white ones! They look like they have a floral design, and I love anything with flowers on it!
A treat to be able to hear that sound! Unexpected bonus :)
Hi SHELBY I absolutely love the brown one it would match my 70's back splash in my kitchen that was built in the 70's. You did such an amazing job.
The white ones look like Gobstoppers, I'd love a mug with a cute pumpkin lid.
The blue and the white squinting pumpkins are my favorite. I like that face the best, the blue is gorgeous and I just really like the white with all the colorful speckles (if you are still thinking about making cake boxes... the white with colorful speckles would make for a really fun funfetti-style cake box.)
Those are cute❤. I like the blue, white and the last one out of the kiln best. I would probably let them out all year because they are so cute.😊
I love the plainer mustard one with the green stalk & pale orange gloves.❤ I can imagine them as quirky mugs like your lovely mush mugs.❤
I like the white ones with the different colored speckles. Gives funfetti vibes lol
They turned out rwally fun! The lids can be so much fun to experiment qith. Just imagine adding butterflies or flowers and other details to match the mugs decorations. ❤
Omg! I love them so very much! They remind me of 80s 90s cheesy horror flix! Like killer clowns from outer space or killer tomatoes 🍅 ❤
They’re just too freaking cute!!!
I love love LOVE the white one with the green stalk👻🎃👻🎃
The 2 white ones are my favorite. I love the 'ghost'.
The blue ones my favourite! 🤩
Mine too! I'd take that one home for my studio!😂
The White ones, look like the Color spots would do well on Tea Sets..Gives you summer berry vibes..
My favorites are the white ones! Especially the second one with the purple stem...so whimsicle and adorable!
They turned out great. I really like the white one with the orange gloves. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤
the brown glaze is definitely my fav!! it really reminds me of a toad's skin!! x
I love all of them! I live in the United States and love pumpkins in general. I've actually grown pumpkins and find so much joy watching them take over my front yard. Your channel has also brought me so much joy. Keep being your super sparkly self. You are fantastic! 🎉
The tops would make adorable mug lids for little fairy house looking mugs
I like the closed-eye ones the most. And with the coloring I like the last brown-y one, and the blue ones.
I like the white because it looks like a jawbreaker. Though my favorite is the speckled ones.
I agree pumkins deserve some longer appreciation time. Its why im so adimant to hold back cristmas for at least half of november or till thanksgiving here in the US.
I love these pumpkins, they are great. Being slightly creepy is exactly a Halloween vibe.
The gobstopper ones are so precious!!!!
OH!! I love those pumpkins!! 😍😍😍 And after you had them in the fire the blue one went my favourite. I want a blue one. 😍
Shelby The Pumpkin was grown in Anoka Minnesota. Anoka is also the Halloween capital. As a Minnesota native we are very proud of this. ❤
This is my absolute favorite kind of glaze 😊
I love the paint splatter one! It looks like a jawbreaker.
The brown and the blue are really neat looking!!
Love them all, but I really love the white ones the most ❤
I actually like them, they remind me of the Flumps (UK kids show in the 70's I think it was), they are soo cute. I think the blue one is my favourite, love how those glazes turned out, looking forward to seeing you use them again.
I like the last one! It kind of reminds me of a pumpkin variety called “speckled hound”.
Ooh I really love this glaze. If you had some little ghost moulds, that white would look perfect. ❤ can’t wait to see what else you do with this glaze in the future.
I think theyd be so appealing to kids...great decor pieces
Mug lids!! Yeah!! Little pumpkin tops for my mug would make me super happy. Thanks for the great content😺
