Hiya you two! I can only think it's to do with pride and passion but we could all come together say one match in the summer and one in the winter from the base of the Grand union canal to the very tip of it. Now that's a mega big money match and I think a guiness world record. Tv,sponsors, tackle companies world wide! What an advert that would be eh?
Building the canal took a lot of organising, with social media it makes it more probable and if you have the passion there's nothing more exciting than not knowing what you might catch. It all starts with an idea!
@@robertwren8878 - Hi Robert. The problem with big canal matches are two fold. Firstly, boat traffic has become unbearable during the spring, summer and early autumn. Secondly, if you schedule the match during the winter months your fishing a grossly unfair venue as in the winter the fish migrate en mass to specific areas leaving large sections of cut devoid of fish.
Hi Ben , hope your keeping well more important drawing well!! Enjoyed your little chat ,all I can say is you think your hard done by I live in Wales!!!! Thanks & be safe.
One of the reasons I stopped buying angling magazines was because 99% of the articles were based on waters predominantly in the North of England. I did once reply to a questionnaire from a magazine asking for suggestions. I said more articles based on Southern waters to which it received quite a number of likes . Unfortunately nothing seems to have changed.
Land prices down south are much, much higher. The investment needed to produce a venue capable of holding big matches far outweigh the return you could expect. It’s even getting tougher up here now finding suitable sites. Many of the commercials in the north and midlands established themselves when it was an affordable proposition. All down to money I’m afraid, Ben. The fisheries I’ve produced over my career were created at a fraction of the cost it would be today.
I'm sorry to say that up in the north they have got It right like one of the previous post sent thank your self lucky you don't live in Wales for the match fishing scene isn't that good . I am a Northerner and live in Reading eat and sleep match fishing but its not as big down here, I think you can draw a line from the bottom side of Birmingham up woulds the fisheries all really accessible to get to. But one thing I hear all the time its not worth going to complete down South because you can't win you money back to cover your costs to fish them . The prices of accommodation is ridiculous and the big names only go the some of the well none festival because they have to because of their sponsorship or its a one of Big pay day.
maybe to make it fair ben all the northen anglers should fish in the southern qualifiers and southern the northen with a final in the midlands iam from sheffield and would be up for that then not all certain venue experts would have the advantages wat do you think cheers
Hi Ben - Good comment and debate - are you fishing wynfest spring festival at Westwood and like Andy says we have only the oaks and Woodlands around us here (teesside) and more recently fish north all qualifiers around North-
Hi ben as a midlander i can see that down south is mainy aimed at the big carp tackle tarts , ive tried most of the local lakes a d there all aimed at big carp with the occainal so called match lake
To be fair I think the finals are more central for everyone, I live in the (north) durham area and there’s next to no qualifiers up here either, only oaks and woodlands usually and woodlands has none this year and 1 fisho at oaks. Hayfield, lindholme etc your looking at a 2hr + drive
@@BenCossMatchFishing couldn’t agree more, next to nothing up here either until fish north started up. Sure they’ve just started a fish south this year?
We have had the big events down here however its all very well having them but you need to fill them, Stafford Moor, Monks, Gold Valley et etc. Monks only 50% subscribed Stafford Moor under subscribed, look at the crap with Gold valley one didnt fill so he stuck it on one lake and killed the fishing for everyone who would go back ? we had our chances down here we as anglers didnt support them is it any surprise why big matches are further up the UK where there is support
It might be because they know the waters so well all the anglers up north don't want to change, I would have thought all the top anglers would have liked the challenge of fishing unknown venues down south and all over Britain to prove how good they are

Good point mate

It just feels they are not spread out enough and if you want to get onto these big matches minimum 2 hour drive

Forgot to say now live in essex for last 14yrs

Some food for thought there.

I agree but there are as many match anglers down south.
@@BenCossMatchFishing yes but the majority of the ones down south have themselves up north
Have proved themselves
