New Anbernic RG505 - Unboxing & First Impressions (It’s surprised me)
Hello world, how are you doing?
In today’s video we will be unboxing the Anbernic RG505 it’s yet another Unisoc Tiger T618 64-bit handheld so let’s take a look at what it has to offer and if it will be something you might be interested in this handheld has a nice bit of power to handle up to psp very well and as seen on the Powkiddy x18S ultra and retroid pocket 3 plus it’s a nice performer, but dose the handheld itself fit your style of retro handheld let’s take a look.

I chose the Gray Edition ANBERNIC RG505 over the RP3 Plus, Logitech G Cloud and AYN Odin and I'm glad I made that choice. Some are complaining that there is no TV output. I personally don't care that it doesn't have a TV output I plan to use my 505 only as a portable anyways. Love the design, silver ANBERNIC logo and build quality of the 505. Inline triggers is no issue on this unit since the main triggers are set as the outer triggers. It also runs video files and Android games rather nicely. The preinstalled Frontend of the 505 is rather nice and easy to navigate and add games (the Frontend is similar to using a Linux end of a dual boot handheld). The 505 is totally awesome at a fair price, love everything about the ANBERNIC RG505!
It is a solid device but I do like my stacked shoulder buttons...I have my RP2+ on and play most of my fav game cube games. I suspect Retriod is going to do a rp4 or plus at some point next few months which I may get. I have a steam deck as well so all I need is a smaller and more powerful game console for good ps2 emulation...also gives me time to save up. I kind of want a sub £200 handheld that has a little better performance than a 505.
@@jobearesto9746 Haven't you heard? Retroid is currently working on releasing a clamshell! I have a Steam Deck as well and waiting on JSAUX to release there Power Bank Case Kit. It will feature a 20,000 mAH external battery attachment for the Deck. You may want to look into that, everyone with a Steam Deck should check that out.
@@jonathonearl482 ooh clam shell... well I recon they would have the internals of a 3+ at first. I do love my 3ds but only really play it these days when I feel like going through my ds games and showing my son the different handhelds from the long past...well to him anyways. Could be interesting. I will wait for the reviews before deciding. I Think the JSAUX could be a good investment with the extra power you can game for longer!
@@jobearesto9746 I actually emailed JSAUX personally a few months ago and requested a case with an external Power Bank. I don't know if that contributed to them about to release one now. Could be that many of us requested that!
I actually like it but I know there are people that hate it but like all handhelds it’s personal choice
After watching every video I can find on the matter, I've finally decided to go with the RG505. I missed out on the whole PSP era of handheld gaming. So this will be my way of satisfying that curiosity. Thanks for the awesome video, and making my decision way easier.

it’s a tough decision I think but I will say for me it would be between the RG505 or the Retroid pocket 3 plus
I agree with SonicLove.
RP3+ and the RG505 are your best choices.
Allegedly, Retroid is making a clamshell handheld. It may have the same specs as the RP3+/RG505 or slightly better.
So if you want a clamshell handheld, hold out for that.
I have ordered a RG505 recently. I already have a RG405M, RG405V and a RG552. I started using the Daijishō front-end for all of my Android based Anbernics.
Sadly, I have had nothing but problems with my RG405M (random resets, freezing, crashing, refusing to switch on or off sometimes and the touchscreen becoming unresponsive) to the point where I think it could be faulty. Installing GammaOS didn't help improve things.
The RG405V is a firm favourite of mine and I have had no problems with it at all. The fan is something I hope to see on all future Anbernic handhelds.
I like the RG552, except for the battery life (although I think it might have improved after installing Android 11), requiring its own charger and the really awkward position of the Home/Back button.
Love the 505 and you will have to let me know what you think of it when you get it man
Thanks for the video - its nice for sure. Bit expensive for what power/performance for the price for me. I really do appreciate the videos you do, you honestly save a fortune and I got the FC3000 cos of one of your reviews. Its a must when I go camping for that entertainment early in the AM or at evening before setting down. Droix sometimes do good deals on refurbished /older handhelds so I do keep a eye on their site for a cheeky deal. I just thought you should know how much I really appreciate these reviews.

I wish there was a video for beginners, It’s so hard to find videos how to install games. I purchased RG505 assuming games were already installed but you have to know what you’re doing .
Hey, sorry did you find out how? I’m sure they sell pre loaded games but I still have tons of questions about to install or the ps2 emulator? Do they come included?
Looks nice console mate,I used droix store myself they are reasonable company,I've had good experience using them I'm actually not far away from there shop here in London,worth considering one of these handhelds 👍🏼👍🏼

I had the 552 device which felt like trash in my opinion but even though this has a similar look don't be worried, this handheld actually feels really good in the hands. I was suprised
I liked the 552 just the battery was dreadful but I think it still has the best screen on a handheld yet

I'm finally able to play Sega SATURN Minnesota Fats: Pool Legend with flawless emulation on my 505! Couldn't do it before.
I know a lot of people hate the 505 compared to the rp3 plus but I like the 505
@@SonicLoveEmulation I'm still thinking about getting myself an RP3 Plus with the case and screen protector add on as well. You can't beat the price, I might as well have both.
I would like to see if DS emulation holding the screen vertically is playable with this handheld. That would give a lot more screen real estate if it is comfortable to play that way.
I have never tried it but I suppose it can be done I will test it out

Select button then x or y or you can get the retroarch menu up and do it that way
Which emulator are you using for sega Saturn? Sadly Saturn runs kind of slow on my rg505🙁

I like both for different reasons to be honest I thought I would hate the 505 but it’s actually quite good
Really really good but it's too expensive ,too big ,the design is not well optimized .in my opinion if you exceed the 5 inch screen size it would be better to use the clamshell shape, as powkiddy does with the x18s. I would love to see a clamshell anbernic console, obviously built with anbernic quality and with anbernic controls!
Definitely would love that a nice screen and decent dpad would be epic if Anbernic would entertain that design

The new 8 bit do controls are some of the best I have used and not to expensive failing that Xbox controller
I dont mind chuncky handhelds but if Id have to pick between the RP3+ and 505 Id pick the RP3+.
Even though the screen is oled and a tiny bit bigger on the 505 the RP3+ has a higher resolution screen (check RetroGameCorps conparison as to why that can make difference depending on your settings preference).
And it has stacked shoulder buttons rather than inline.
Sadly though I wouldnt buy either for two reasons.
Screens are still a little on the small side for me and they're android only.
If it cant run linux, its a no buy for me 😊.
ya I know the dpi is lower but it’s very difficult to notice really unless you are looking for it up close when playing it as normal there is no difference really, but I went back and tested Wii against each other as 505 and rp3+ and it’s better on the 505 so can’t wait to do a gaming comprising between them both. and I know you would avoid them but let’s hope this is the year of the Fonzitheman handheld you have always wanted

@@solkalibri1376 I was thinking maybe the G Cloud, Pimax, RG552, Odin Lite or X17. The Switch 2 Pro has not been released yet and Fonz said the handheld he is considering has been around for a while.

having issues uploading new games on the SD provided. Can't seem to drag roms to the SD card like the rg353V does. Any suggestions?
the only thing I can suggest is to reformat the sd card with dick genius or other than that a new sd card, how did you format the sd card? did you put it in the 505 and format it on the 505 first?
@@SonicLoveEmulation I never formatted the sd card, just booted and played. I’m pretty new to the emulator scene so when I got the print that I would lose the data on the device when formatting in settings I turned away
I'm not sure what to tell you. I purchased my 505 without the added sd card option. Instead, I had a 1TB Sandisk micro sd on standby to install on mine. I added my own roms and content to the sd card after formatting the card with the 505. I have access to all my games and content no problem.
I can only suggest you go to the settings and go to Storage Menu. Make sure the card is set to transfer files. Make sure the card shows up in the storage menu. Try ejecting the card and reinserting the card to make it show up.
I'd like to buy a GPD WIN 4. But can't bring myself to spend 1400 quid on it. 😂

Which is better for PSP though? RG 505 or Pocket 3+?
I will need a few more days to play on the 505 as I have had the RP3+ for a good while now then I will do a few comparisons and let everyone know my choice but again it’s hard to say if what I like, you might like so it’s definitely down to personal preference with a lot of these handhelds sadly
Rp3+ is better for psp because the screen is perfect for 3x resolution
Should I get this or the 552?
I would get the retroid pocket 4 plus it’s around the same price and it played GameCube and ps very well even some switch games, just head over to there web site and it’s on pre order at the moment but it will be so worth the short wait I promise
@@SonicLoveEmulation I have the steam deck for the higher demanding emulation, but I’m loving the anbernic build quality and weight on their handhelds, that’s why I’m torn between the 2 lol.. is the 552 screen better than the oled on the 505? And thank you for your suggestions

Yes you can use your phone as a hotspot
What was the GFX settings for Grid?
I did not change any settings for grid that was just playing it from downloading and installing the hard graphics packs buddy played really well
That stick placement and triggers is a no no.
