Thanks! I should do a whole separate video on how I figure this kinda shiz out, but I basically use the following methods in order of complexity: *Familiarity* - the absolute simplest method. Just knowing the song(s), and what the guitar parts vaguely sound like. This is how I learned literally 80% of Calculating Infinity. *Looping* - taking a section of a song and looping it in your DAW of choice. I recommend listening at a low volume when doing this, so as not to fatigue your ears and completely sabotage whatever work you think you've been doing.. only for you to get back to it the next day, and realize the tabs you've written are absolute BALLS. *Panning in Mono Mode* - some DAWs give you the option to listen in mono mode, from there you can pan the track hard left or right to hear what's going on in mono, as opposed to keeping it in stereo tryna listen through one ear like an absolute psychopath. *EQ* - roll off the high frequencies at around 6k-8k. Sometimes it just helps to remove all that annoying ass cymbal noise to hear the guitars in their range better. With the FabFilter Pro-Q 3, you can isolate any frequency range you want super easily. Most of the time, guitars will lie in the 400-5k range. Now here's where the real grimy shit starts: *Center Cancelling* - import your song into any DAW of your choice. Duplicate the track, you now have 2 identical STEREO tracks. Now, basically the move here is to split the 2 STEREO tracks into the left and right MONO tracks. You now have 2 tracks, MONO left and MONO right, both playing at the same time. It should just sound like you have the song in MONO. Now, on one of the tracks, invert the phase. You are now listening to only what has been panned left and right, as anything in the center, has just been cancelled out. This makes it 1000x times easier to hear the guitars clearly and concisely.. most of the time. Some EQ afterwards could also be of help, cuz more than likely that DAMN CYMBAL NOISE is going to be in stereo too. REAPER comes with a plugin in the JS category that does all of this garbo in one click. The very aptly-named, "Center Canceller". *Isolated Tracks* - sometimes you can find guitar stems to a song you wanna learn (zero chance with The Sawtooth Grin). Try to discern what's goin on from there. *Playthroughs/Guitar Lessons* - every now and then, you can find a video of an artist actually playing their songs up close. From there, simply pay attention and take note. Hell, I learned the chord progression to Good Touch Bad Touch 123 from Jay himself, because he had a few sections on his Instagram. instagram.com/p/B2FkeS5lqaw/ *Ask* - if it's _that_ important to you, try to reach out to an artist on Instagram, Twitter, etc. Who knows what could happen from there. *Live Footage* - this is pretty much the last resort. Lookin up a live video, hoping it doesn't look like hammered asshole, HOPING the dumbass camera operator has a decent shot of literally anything useful, and just trying to make out SOMETHING. Looking where the guitar player's hands are - could it be a 7 on the E string or a 2 on the A? Stuff like that. *Covers* - sometimes cover videos by other people can guide you in a seemingly right direction. For instance, I actually remember you, you are literally the only person on YT that covered Sandbox Magician, and that helped me out a bit learning Under the Running Board, so thanks for that. *Best Guess* - and if all these methods fail you, your only option at this point really is to say "fugg it" and guess. Not like it's the end of the world if you ain't playin it right :p Dishonorable Mention: *Tabs* - I absolutely never seek out tabs made by other people. They are always wrong. Not often wrong, they are _always_ wrong. Also it's just way more fulfilling to figure it out on your own. Hope this helps :)

The only technique I can add is taking the song (even better if you export the track after center cancelling and EQ) and use an online audio file > MIDI conversion. Load up a simple Sin wave synth, and bring in the MIDI. Generally speaking, the guitar is like, 80% of the sustained notes in the mid frequencies so it's decently easy to pick out and clean up the MIDI afterwards. After playing in the same grindcore band for 10 years and traveling I do have those friends and some play in wild bands of this nature. I've never had a band like this but it was always my favorite style. I stopped playing as much guitar and got really good at producing music and playing all kinds of shit but recently started writing harder than ever on guitar with this jazzy noise mathcore as the inevitable goal...
This perked me up something fierce. I played with Cloacal Kiss circa 07 and was lucky to make out with some sawtooth merch too. One of the greatest hauls I can remember in one spot. superb work. I hope you're working on some originals
