  • Can biological reproduction ever become obsolete: That's a question researchers in Israel are trying to answer. For now, it looks impossible to create a human baby without a mother and father to help. But they've made a striking progress in growing an embryo - basically from scratch.
    What makes us human? Well one thing every human on the planet has in common is that we come from a fertilized egg cell. At least, we have until now. But there’s no guarantee it’ll remain the only way in the future. New research from Israel has re-ignited debates in an already controversial field…
    For more, we talk to DW science reporter Anna Carthaus.

      @@affordableliving2756 Trying to adopt as a single man is basically impossible. We don't have support groups like couples do, whether they be straight or gay. Heck it was illegal until the 1960s and you better be comfortable having your entire life and social circle audited as you're guilty until proven innocent.
      Then there is the massive waiting list. You could have every single abortion turn into a viable adoption and you'd still take 10 years to clear the backlog of people willing to suffer through the process.
      Or just hire someone if you aren't comfortable asking friends and family (married relations obviously).

    I don't understand the meaning of "artificial life". Is it life or not? I would consider "trust fund" babies "artificial life" in the same way that "cubicle monkeys" could be considered "artificial life", and I could certainly go on and on about my own perspective. But in the sense of scientific definition, what is the meaning of "artificial life". Is it life or not?

    • @Trahloc
      @Trahloc 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      When the whole process is engineered by humans is where the "artificial" part comes from. It's like some artificial flavors. Chemically it might be the exact same molecule as the original, but it was created using genetically modified yeast/bacteria or possibly from a purely synthetic chemical process. The end result might be too pure compared to a natural one, for example artificial diamonds vs natural ones, because the human process is too refined.
