A lot of comments are calling this animal abused with a neglectful owner. There are abusive owners but this horse looks great and unafraid of the strange humans. Abscesses start from a huge number of things. Take a little time and look it up. Horses are prey animals. That means that their survival depends on keeping up with the herd. They hide the problem until they can’t. One of my horses had horrible feet and constantly had tiny abscesses on her coronary band. She was so used to it that she never got lame from them. For weeks on end I’d have to clean the sites and disinfect them. The farrier kept custom shoes on her through 9 years of retirement. Over the 14 years we had her until she was put down at 29, we spent so much on her feet that we could have bought a car. We did everything right. It was her feet. Years ago my thumbnail started hurting horribly. There was a tiny white dot visible. I drilled a tiny hole in my nail and drained the pus. The pain immediately stopped and the nail grew out. It was SO TINY, and I have no idea how it happened. Nonetheless it hurt a ridiculous amount. A hoof is like that. Something gets started and the pus has nowhere to go.
Agreed. Some people jump the gun and assume that if any animal is ever hurt or ill it's because someone was neglectful/abusive and that's just neither true nor fair. Accidents happen, and problems can be missed, and animals can hide pain until they can't anymore and it's gotten bad by then. Sometimes it's not anyone's fault. Most of the times things just happen.

It's not always neglectful or malicious
Why make the poor horse walk so far when it's obviously in horrible pain? Could you not have done it where it was standing instead of forcing it to walk further into the field ?
It was very upsetting to watch them forcing this horse to walk because they already knew the problem. The horse was limping .please start working on the problem instead of talking about it.
First time watching this channel and I was thinking the same, but do they not maybe do the walk to help diagnose the issue? Donno much about hoof trimming do I am quite curious to know
Maybe so but to make the horse walk to where they are when the horse obviously is in a lot of pain really. Come on guys y'all need to move to the horse not the horse move to you. 🙄
Having watched hundreds of The Hoof GP videos this is nothing in comparison. However, I am impressed that the horse is standing so still, even though it must hurt terribly. I assume it was heavily sedated (looks like it) so it would be able to walk over to the farrier's tools and then endure the trimming itself without feeling any pain. In my eyes farriers are completely fearless and super strong and when I was a child I thought our farrier was the closest thing to Superman you could be.
I was sceptical at first as i watch channels like nate the hoof guy, you won me over by the end. You helped the horse with its pain and problem. Good work.
Awww, seeing this makes me cry. I mean im really crying and having to stop and wipe my tears away. Thankyou so very much for what you do!!!! May our God in heaven bless you ABUNDANTLY for taking care of his creation. I hope he has fully recovered. So sorry for crying like a big baby. But i hate to see animals in pain.

What a Bloody Good Horse standing still when the Pain is Intolerable and someone is touching it like that he or she is Lovely 🐎 They Do Need to see the Horse walk a little to Guage the Severity of what could possibly be causing the problem and How much it's hurting her/him it's unfortunate but necessary then he can Treat the problem Better. Horse Racing is in the Family so we see a lot of work on the Hooves and they are checked every day really but I don't know what could have caused this Poor Horse to have such an Abscess but on a farm there's plenty of bits left on ground and could easily be stood on by the Animals. Melissa's husband here. Born raised and still running a horse farm and cattle farm here in alabama. Im not gonna judge this based on a !minute of the horse walking. But it very much is diagnostic. First things first. That is a 1500 pound animal. If it doesn't want to walk, it isn't going too. Period. Yes he's in pain. Yes they are guiding it. But the horse is ok with it and frankly the horse knows what a ferrier is. It knows its about to be helped. But also, you need them to walk around. Your not just looking at the hoof. A limp can mean 10000 different things. It could.just be am abcess in the hoof, or it could be an infected corium and that could travel up to the ankle and eventually the hip. You need him to walk so you can see the entire structure functioning. Keep in mind, maybe the obvious problem is only in the hoof. You fix that, come back 3 months later and he is totally lame cause you missed the impending infection further up the leg. All because you didn't want to make the horse walk to properly diagnose the problem. you saved the horse from temporary and relatively minor pain in that moment, but cause it to be exponentially worse and exponentially more painful for the sake of temporary empathy...
Sorry, MISGUIDED EMPATHY! your doctor will also play with your injury a little too. But your doctor doesn't have to do it as much because you and the doc speak english. Animals dont. So I ask, do you want to fix the horse or not??? Damn city slickers. Bunch of soft, non functional excuses for humans sometimes... People are asking why they moved the horse when it was so painful. It looks like they were transferring the horse from a large pasture with other animals to a more enclosed space. The horse is obviously loved because it made no attempts to be aggressive.
Once they found the abscess and released the pressure the horse felt so much better. I’ve dealt with a ton of these & the horse will be three legged lame and then voila better in a couple of days.
