    49:44 I noticed a thing the American version is cutted. No or less nudity there. The one I have at home (german) I got to see a lot. 50:50 Even in that second the Breasts are visible in the version I know. Just not the lower part of the body.
    But with Sha re it is different. Everything is visible. Weird how this cut works.
    59:10 Yep totally censored by the producers. That is very odd. And they cutted the "bonding with the Goa'uld" out. Maybe to not spoil it. But I always thought that it shows the true Horror of the Vessel.
    I just searched it and found the reason for the cut. Quote: SYFY network in 2002, the director reshot the pilot and cut out the nudity. Originally it was the company Showtime they did the whole Nudity thing.

They don't just go back through it. It's not explained HOW they dialed it off-screen, but they must have. If SG-1 can figure out a way to manually dial gates without a DHD, it stands to reason the Goa'uld would know how to.

      They really are still finding their feet in season one but it does find it's stride and it gets good and gets good fast, I rarely felt like 'WTF are they doing?' even when we had the.... 'ascension' season that still worked because of how it was worked. Few shows can make sense of a character write off and keep the show going, SG1 did that. With a main character that is some REAL staying power in my opinion.

    Sg-1 is probably my favorite Sci-Fi. For me it strikes the sweet balance between the cheese what was Star Trek the Original series and the more serious, story driven modern shows.
    The SG-1 team had the best chemistry I've seen on tv, especially Daniel and Jack. I love how it slowly goes from "Jack you need to do this." "Why?" "Because it's right!" to "Jack you need to do this." "OK".
    Sam is the most balanced Badass female character. She's smart, but she gets stumped often enough. She's strong, but she gets beat often enough. They give her enough femininity that it still fits her character and doesn't feel forced in for the plot. Her and Jack's "will they won't they" is also the best done on TV.
    McKay does steal the show on Atlantis.
    Showtime forced them to add a lot of the "adult" stuff. In the Final Cut versions most was removed by the show runners. I think Amazon and Hulu also censored it on their own.
    Hammond is really one of the best leaders on TV. He's strong willed and willing to make the tough decisions, but he listens to his people and does the right thing when he needs to.

    • @angeltalion
      @angeltalion  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      What a great comment! Let's start with Jack and Daniel. I am a Jack Daniels Shipper 100% and I totally agree! The way the relationship grows is what makes it work whether you see it as a bromance or if you are a shipper, the growth in both characters as friends is why the TEAM works! The same can be said for Sam just as you pointed out .. and McKay steals the screen no matter where he is! He is one of my favorite characters on any show of all time. The adult stuff was unnecessary .. it REALLY added nothing so I don't miss it. I've seen the show with AND without it. Hammond was the PERFECT leader for Stargate Command! Everything they needed, he was in a leader and losing him was detrimental and SO sad. Thank you again for the amazing comment.

      It takes a while, longer than it should IMO, but he gets better as time goes by, but he is certainly too goofy in the beginning for having been 'stranded' on a planet with no tech to speak of... and for having to live as they did.

    • @TheFireMonkey
      @TheFireMonkey 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@angeltalion what gets me most often is the number of times he acts as if people who are clearly war-like and have values and views that are centuries old by a modern American standards will simply listen to reason and respect his right to whatever views he has, etc, etc ... anyone who didn't sleep through history classes in high school should know better and someone with his background in cultures and history should definitely know better. It's like walking into an obvious slave culture and trying to stop a slave owner from treating their slave in a way that is normal in a slave culture - it may be admirable, but it is stupid to think it will go well.

    • @angeltalion
      @angeltalion  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Agreed! I know he felt it worked on Earth why not here... but there were factors on Earth that they didn't HAVE here like advancements over time not just HEY we have BOMBS! Thrust into a world suddenly with a loss of purpose and governance ect... In a realistic theory they would turn to Daniel to fill Ra's role now because that is ALL they would know to do. He is obvious more knowledgeable and has advanced weapons he should be their leader now. A lot of fanfic goes in and fixes the plot hole by bringing in people to help them rebuild and negotiate peaceful societies. So we all just go with that happy thought and not that they just go free the planet and f*ck off.

      I love the whole frakkin verse. I've been fan since a fellow BtVS fangeek steered me toward it back in my late teens/early 20's. I own all the movies, SG1 box set and even the Atlantis sets on DVD. As for McKay, I'll die on that hill. To me his ego is part of his charm... or lack there of. The man is brilliant, he earns his ego, he saves more lives with his brain than most of the soldiers' get to with their guns. His doctorates are in Engineering and Astrophysics, which means he can imagine something and then build it from scratch... invent it. In the show he even notes that he built a (non working) atomic bomb for a science fair project that got him on the US Government radar when he was like 12.

    25:39 Is it? That seems petty. As idiotic a line as that is, it seems like an example of early cringe that was thankfully forgotten (except that one time they brought it up to mock it-I love how self-aware the series is!). The vast majority of the time, I find her a very likeable character.
    25:46 I tend to agree, though I could see someone like a radical feminist writing it.
    Also, about the nudity, or lack thereof: As I understand it, that was only in the original release. When MGM re-released it on DVD, they made a few changes, including reworking Joel Goldsmith's score that had originally been mixed with David Arnold's score from the film, so it was only Goldsmith's, as well as re-editing.
    Incidentally, what does the nudity have to do with the "copyright gremlins"?? I wouldn't assume they would care about that in particular nearly as much as TH-cam would for Community Guidelines reasons.

      I beg to differ! This is mainly because, even on Atlantis, when Sam comes with SG1 to Atlantis, they turn McKay into a blithering jerk-moron. There is no knife's edge of the smart, funny asshole. Anytime SG1 gets the Rodney McKay treatment, we get Rodney McKay 1.0, whose job on the show was to make Sam Carter look one step below the Asgardians.

      Mine too. The stories, the acting, the comradery from the cast off screen that translates into their 'team' dynamics. It's just one of thoe shows that came together in a neatly wrapped package for a really long time.

    The movie was good, especially by Roland Emmerich standards (he's terrible). But SG-1 is SOOOOOO much better.

      You'll have to petition the Copyright Gremlins, this is how we have to censor things for them to pass the process. I'm sorry to lose you though.

      It really is, it's one of my favorites! When I heard EditorHubby hadn't seen it, I pulled my boxset out and was insistent we watched all of SG1 and then moved right into Atlantis watching it as the Alterant's intended simultaneously.

    There are a few "hiccups" in season 1. Possibly one of the WORST episodes is in season 1, Shanks is trying a bit TOO hard to act like Spader's movie version of "Daniel Jackson" (but thankfully finds his own take), and there is a bit of "slow burn" for the first 1/2 of the season.
    HOWEVER, once you get introduced to "Master Bra'tac".... the ENTIRE show starts to hit its full stride and really takes off. It is (over the long run) no wonder that it became one of the most defining Sci-Fi shows of its time.

      I think Shanks does a decent job of slowly making the character is own. By the time he's fully Shanks version it feels like an organic evolution to me.

      When I met Shanks at Comicpalooza here in Houston last year, he told the story of auditioning for Daniel where he said he did a full impersonation of James Spader and before he left the room they told him he was the guy. He had to fight to slowly grow Daniel out of allergies and glasses and into a more military person with more of an athletic physique because he felt that Daniel would want to grow and be less of a hindrance to his team.

      @angeltalion One of my favorite scenes is where someone says, "I'm supposed to trust an archeologist to watch my back?" Daniel then daintily picks up his pistol like a teacup and says, "Which end do bullets come out of?" It's perfect because Spader Daniel would have meant it 🤣
