People make fun of how basic The Art of War seems, but it's shocking how frequently generals and kings forgot those "simple" lessons in the following centuries.
Tbh The art of war is simple bc it was written for nobles to understand the basics. It was a treatise to allow even the dumbest noble to grasp some aspects of warfare
@@petrasbirthdaygoblinhoney4565 and it's not “basic stuff”, it's fundamentals. He doesn't just recommend foraging, he goes on multiple times on how to check if soldiers are hungry, or how the enemy supply is looking, on how horses have a range limit because you also need to feed them (so pay attention to terrain and don't raze willy-nilly), on if the enemy starts killing cattle and feeding grain to their horses instead of grazing they're preparing for a last stand. This is military supply chain management, the cornerstone of modern warfare. Always ensure you have supply lines, deny the enemy supply lines. Napoleon won and lost Europe because of “food”. It's not a hard concept to grasp, that humans need to eat, but it is incredibly difficult to execute, and not just valuable but paramount to victory. He's not just saying "feed your soldiers dummy" he's saying "if you don't ensure your soldiers have acesss to food your tactics won't even matter, pay attention to it above all else, it's a requirement”. You'd be surprised at how many history-defining battles have been lost due to overextension.
Honestly over the holiday I got pretty sick and I am still pretty sick. Feels like my throat is filled with fiberglass. Glad to see that you guys finally posted another video. This definitely brightened my day.
One thing about the siege of Tyre. When Alexander finally got to the island. The soldiers met little to no resistance. Because the locals committed mass suicide. Some speculate that the king ordered his men to kill all the civilians to avoid defections.
YES, my dear Skitten, Austrailia/New Zealand does indeed have armed forces. I've trained w/them during my Active-Duty Army tenure in Egypt...and while they ARE 2 separate countries, together they're considered ONE continent.
The beginning of the video is bc DJ Peach Cobbler corrected one of the stories in Blue jay’s previous video on the topic. Blue Jay basically quickly took one source for it and said source was relying on a single text rooted in negative Roman attitudes towards Egypt. It’s the only source for the event that claims it went down the whacky way and it was written 700 years after the fact so it’s likely it didn’t go down the way the text claims
I want to make it clear that what Blue Jay said about the "callout" video being a joke is true. It's not really a callout, and DJ Peach Cobbler doesn't accuse Blue Jay of racism. The video is actually a clarification and sorta deep dive on the origins of that war fought with cats. TL;DR - Romans were being Romans (a.k.a. they were making shit up about other cultures because they saw non-Romans, and especially Egyptians, as savage and comparatively primitive... thus the racism thing).
Australian and New Zealand (ANZAC) forces were actually feared enough one of the German general is famously quoted. "If I had to take hell, I would use the Australians to take it and the New Zealanders to hold it"
Love you two’s content, especially together… Don’t forget to do the homie’s RabSoPetty Hood Anime Paper Chaser Award…. And Happy New Years to y’all too…
To fair to Skitten Australia's military has always been a lot smaller than other countries' militaries, I feel like over here you don't really hear about too many of the battles they fought in as well which contributes to that. Uh I have no smooth transition to say this recommendation but a video from the channel Montemayor called "The Battle of the Coral Sea 1942: The First Aircraft Carrier Battle in History" does mention Australia under threat of being invaded by Japan during WW2. This guy's channel is interesting, for the past 6 years he has been going through a lot of the major battles in the Pacific Theater of WW2 in chronological order starting with "Attack on Pearl Harbor 1941" and I would personally recommend you go in chronological order just for the sake of clarity. I like his videos because he puts you in the shoes of the commanders with the fog of war and often asks the viewers to consider dilemmas.
Since you’re asking for recommendations, I have to recommend Bobby fingers Jeff Bezos rowboat video. It has heavy ADHD energy. He makes a full-size rowboat out of a sculpture he made of Jeff Bezos’s head. It’s like 12 feet tall.
i have come from your husbands video, let the memes flow. also idk if you guys would find him interesting but blue jay brings up a guy called Dj Peach cobbler, he does long videos about history among other things. definitely pre-watch if your interested because his humor is out there to say the least.
