A very illuminating talk. Thanks to you both. The AI section was particularly thought provoking.

12:50 Amen! 🙂 I don't know if I'm barking up the right tree, but a lot of scholars have referenced Bustenay Odeed's "Mass deportations and deportees in the Neo-Assyrian Empire." Unfortunately it is impossible to find.
I also found Studies in the Archeology in the Iron Age in Israel and Jordan, Ancient Assyria: A Very Short Introduction, A History of the Ancient near East, and At the nexus of history and memory: the 10 lost tribes (jstor.) But I don't remember how extensively these sources go into immigration. (I actually emailed a couple of these scholars, and they kindly responded to a couple of my questions.)

One thing that always confused me... when Israelites (Judahites?) were exiled, what does it mean to say that they were exiled to "Babylon"? Are these passages referring to Babylon the city, or somewhere in the Babylonian empire? (The Babylonian empire would include both Israel and Judah, incidentally.) Israelites and Judahites were exiled all over. For example, Jeremiah 40 11&12 talks about Judahites deported to Ammon, Moab, Edom (which were Israel's and Judah's "neighbors")... and apparently too many nations to list.
