My parents bought me this on VHS as a kid. Years later now, I showed it to my wife who's in her mid 20's and we watched it together. I found myself crying lol. But she wasn't weird about it. She enjoyed it with me. My favorite sci-fi film of ALL
A Brilliant Movie with a Message that People All Over the World should try and Understand about Differences, We may look different believe in other things but the main thing is We are All the Human Race. This Music at Drac Holy Council is quiet Moving when You have seen and Understand the Film and it's Message.
Saw this gem of a movie as a kid in the mid 80s when it first came out. The soundtrack fits this movie so well, and I especially love the "holy drac council" chorus at the end.
"And so Davidge brought Zammis and the Dracs home. He fulfilled his vow, and recited the line of Zammis' forefathers before the Holy Council on Dracon. And when, in the fullness of time, Zammis brought its own child before the Council, the name of Willis Davidge was added to the Line of Jeriba."
A pleasant conceit...but I rather think Davidge himself (at least in the original novella & the movie's novelization), if I may speak in his place, would consider such a thing as far beyond his deserts and disrespectful to the memory and culture of the being that was his friend. 🤔 🤨
@@goldenager59 You would think so, But similar things have happened throughout history. Even the Bible story. Someone who's not part of the true bloodline, who comes from a lowly, or even unworthy lineage gets added to the genealogy out of love. At least in this movie, it shows just how highly the dracs consider and appreciate this human who adopted the young drac as his own child and risked his life to save him. I'd like to think the humans and dracs ended their warring because of it. I think that's the big message behind this film and that's why I love it so much
Just watched enemy mine. First time since it was first on telly. All the way through I’m hearing Mad Max. It’s so close that it’s almost identical. Had to look it up on IMDB, only to find they were both written by Jarre. I didn’t really need to look, it’s so obvious tbh.
@@andyr5579 Yeah same here! I was like...I know this song....they came out the same year so it's clear he just adapted the same piece of music for both projects.
LP version, here? This refrain is so recognizable for me, immediately was back in those days and the name JARRE always stands for super quality (reffering to his worldfamous son).

Totally agreed dear friend In this soundtrack Maurice Jarre shows us that there is no universe so big that it contains love
AMEN
4:27 ... best part I think. Really takes you to another world.
Yes....its kinda dark too. Its the main song I think of with this movie.

+Vaos Human you are so damn right :D !

I totally agree...4:27 is the mark.
+peloquin same here :D !!
Vicky Cohn mr D??
Absolutely - seen the movie as a young kid in the 80's and I have been astounded by the esoteric and undernoticed brilliance of this soundtrack.
From 4:27 onward, I would like to play this at home with a movie theater sound system & play this as loud as I could.
The final of this cue is just astonishing,it give the chills.
4:48 a great drac Chorus...epic soundtrack.
Yes
This was such an excellent movie and curiously the first time I ever saw Louis Gossett Jr. 👏🏻

@@goldenager59It was still a great but underrated story. One of 80's movies best.

You'll get no argument from me on _that_ one. 😎

You go right on believing...and loving. 😊
1:40 ...! That's so brilliant from a rythmical point of view.
My son bears the name Zammis. I survived Middle eastern wars because I had to return to him.
You can hear elements of Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome (which was also Maurice Jarre.)

4:30 😍❤❤❤❤
I wish i could find the version woth davidge singing the jeriba line like in the actual scene
One of the greatest end credits scores ever written, comparable to The Untouchables and The Empire Strikes Back.
Space became the new battlefield
Our only home was a star fortress in space
JUST like any war
And then
who here can do that noise with theys throat, say "alright" in here...
+Heelf Since I was like 7... Which made this movie stand out to me even more than Star Wars.
