    I just did my first hand planer blade replacement today without a previous clue on how it's done. I seriously chipped the old blade, running it into the tip of a wood screw I didn't realize was sticking out there. That led me to click on this video. I should go back to it tomorrow and do those adjustments. Thanks for the info.

    I couldn't figure it out. . . till now!!!! Thanks a lot I will follow your procedure step by step. Cheers!!!!

    Most planners can be set up with a few adjustments.There are mounting bolts on the blade mounts that are readily changed .Good video

    I love it very much. Thank you, to make the adjustments a bit easier; use a wooden stick, turn the deepness on 0.5 mm and turn with your finger the cylinder bringing the stick forwards write down where the stick stops on the sole. Repeat this on the other side of the blade as soon the lines are the same move to the other blade and repeat. Good luck and good health to your family thanks for sharing , all the way from Mexico.

    I have always tuned my hand planes, but never done this on my power planes. I always just accommodate any alignment issues with how I use it. I think it is time I tuned the power planes.
    I've never seen the little blade depth strip on my older (2nd hand ) planes and always wondered what the threaded holes were for.
    Thanks for the video.

    Great Great Job!
    Recently - had to change my blades -
    Forgot what I did last time -
    Originally had the small carbide double sided blades -
    Decided I wanted the old style.
    Rewatched many videos.
    Mine did not come with the - a the “ GUIDE BLOCK” that now comes with the planer.
    Also my adjustment screw and the dial don’t align or at least don’t make sense to me intuitively - since in a way Zero degrees would be - the front and back plates are even and turning clockwise would intuitively make the front plate raise -
    But at zero degrees you can’t raise the plate anymore anyway I often have to prefigure out how to start cutting with the tool-
    Also I must check the flatness of the back and front- NO doubt they are NOT at zero even!!!
    And therefore the tool is usually used to remove great amounts of material before making things precise using other methods .
    Thanks for the tutorial -
    Greatly appreciate it!!!

      You can, as you set the blades to be level with the base (when set to 0) - after tuning the base.

    Can someone recommend a good “Tool Vice/Clamp” and/method to hold this planer (and other types of tools) in place while working on them; and not damage them?
    That’s been my frustration…as it’s difficult to make adjustments, especially fine tuning when the tool doesn’t stay in the position you needed.

    • @luminousfractal420
      @luminousfractal420 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      it should have a through hole on the side for a slide rod. or at least some bolt holes.
      bolt it to any old 90degree bracket and fix to your table/bench

  • @rb-ex
    @rb-ex ปีที่แล้ว

    it's a good video, and it would be even better if you were clear about the grits of both sandpapers used. as far as uses of the planer as a handheld tool, i agree it has limited use, but it is very useful for rough planing high spots on one side of a board flat (so that it sits flat and doesnt rock) before it goes into a surface planer. and for that purpose it doesnt have to be a high-precision tool, cuz you are going to flip that board and finish the surface in the surface planer
    but i really like the way you made it into a precision tool that will work better than ever in any application
