I must say, I was definitely and utterly taken aback as Dr. Hoodhbhoy made all the factual errors with regard to the history of plastic surgery or mentioning Romila Thapar as a credible historian of India. Many of us admire Dr. Hoodhbhoy as a scientist or an intellectual, hence if the factually erroneous statements are made by him in a serious intellectual platform, like Pakistan Experience, it will certainly do a lot of harm to the young minds who are seeking knowledge on the history or geopolitics of the subcontinent. There is a big f*ing problem with the name 'Hindu' and using it an identity marker for Indians anytime before 1947.
There are two reasons behind this:
    1) It is not an Endonym. A person who was living in the Indian subcontinent could easily identify his janpad. If he was learned (Not using it as a placeholder for brahmin), he could also easily tell that he was bharatiya, without much translation required, since 'Bharat' is a very old geocultural designation.
    2) It wasn't a religious identity, but a name for 'India' (also comes from the persian word 'Hindus') in the same manner that the name of Deutshcland is Germany in English, or the name for Pakistan is 'Bhikaristhan' in Shuddh Hindi.
Finally, the whole 'Hindu identity came into existence after the arabs' is also false. Indians never identified themselves as 'hindus' not because there wasn't a common religious identity, but because we have better names for it. The word 'Hindus' isn't even old persian, its far older. 'Hindus' occurs in the avesta, in the torah as 'hodu', in ancient greece as 'indos' and way before 'al-hind' was first written.
If pakistanis can't digest this, there is no point of having a discussion with them regarding history.

@@guleria24 That's tricky. I have learned bits and pieces from all over the place by being proactive about learning Indian history and etymology for quite a few years now.
[*] The first statement is obviously my opinion, someone else may think it is entirely appropriate to call medieval and ancient followers of 'Indic religions', basically Sanatan thought as hindus.
[1] We know this because almost all inscriptions, rock edicts, manuscripts first refer to the person's origin by their place of birth. Eg. sculptors specifying their place of birth in a rock edict (asokan). Seen here: Chakrabarti, Manika (1981). Mālwa in Post-Maurya Period: A Critical Study with Special Emphasis on Numismatic Evidences. Punthi Pustak. p. 100. Archived from the original on 2021-07-08. Retrieved 2018-10-01.
The second statement of people self idenifying as 'bharatiya' is basically encoded in every sanatan ritual that you need to partake with a declaration of where the ritual is taking place, refer to "sankalpamantra".
[3] refer to 'Indika' by megasthenes, the original work is lost, but its fragments survive in commentaries by Diodorus Siculus, Strabo (Geographica), Pliny, and Arrian (Indica). Also refer to airyanem vaejeh which mentions "hapta hendu" region as a part of the original Aryan (Airyan) homeland that clearly implies that 'hendu is a word for rivers: Hendostan is the land of rivers". for "Hodu" refer psalm 136:1 of the bible (which takes the word ad hoc from the torah).
I don't think anything else requires references but I can personally guarantee "Bhikaristhan" is indeed the name for Pakistan.

Pakistanis like Pervez Hoodbhoy, Syed Muzammil, Zarrar Khurro and their ilk don't have problems with Nehru's India or Romilla Thapar's version(s) of Ancient Indian history because it was tailored to the narrative independent India was delivered with. Pakistanis are petrified by Modi-Ji's India, because (a) it has taken India beyond Pakistan's reach; (b) a growing number of Indian Muslims have begun adjusting their lives within the mainstream; (c) better education levels among Muslim women has resulted in lower birth rates; (d) no preferential treatment is given to Muslims except in non-BJP ruled states; (e) most Pakistanis believe a Sanatani India will avenge the hate and violence Pakistanis unleashed on the "Hindu" community in Pakistan since partition.

There is a reason why a majority of Indians want Akhand "Bharat" and not Akhand India. The name "India" or "Hindustan" comes from foreign people. Our nation's true name is Bharatvasrsh and the people of Bharatvarsh who belive in dharma should identify themselves as Sanātanī (सनातनी) and not "Hindu". As Prime Minister Modi said We Bharatvashi should unshackle our colonised mind by removing remnants of foreign identity from our country. Bharatiya Sabhyata is at least 10000 years old. From Bharat, all major Eastern beliefs and ways of living such as Sanatan Dharma, Ways of Gautama Buddha, Jainism and Sikhism were born. We should focus on capacity building right now. Akhand Bharat is 100-year plan to achieve that goal we should start by removing the shackles of colonialism, and enlighten the people of Bharat of our true history.

I don't know why AIM is trying to argue with Kushal here. It is quite clear Kushal is trying to show how shallow this Parvez Boy's (Yes, Boy is good enough) "scholarship" is. And, why is AIM even arguing? Why is it our burden to give this "scholar" primary sources so that he can present authentic history? That is his responsibility. Parvez did not have to venture into an area and write something if he was not willing to do his complete research. That is precisely what Kushal was saying. Why say things like "ancient Indians practicing plastic surgery is nonsense..." That is arrogance! An author who does half-baked research should be really humble and not dismiss everything as "nonsense." What one needs to understand is, for Muslims, whether politicians, theologians, atheists... their "history" starts only after the birth of their prophet. They believe the humanity was rotting in dark ages until their prophet came along. So, the richness & lofty ideas pervasive in Sanskrit literature, Vedas, Upanishads, yoga, Mahabharata, Ramayana.... none of these things matter to them. Bring Shraddalu Ranade and have this Boy guy sit under his feet. Then he will realize writing a book about Hindus is a blunder he should not have committed.

It is Syria. Anyway there are multiple problems with Sanskrit originating in Syria. The biggest problem is that the local language was a form of Hurrian or Aramaean. Not an Indo-European language at all. The instances of Sanskrit so to speak are largely restricted to personal names and administartive agreements/documents, signifying it was a relatively small elite group using it.

    • @caxtalec
      @caxtalec ปีที่แล้ว +4

to be clear, the Hittites ( while in Turkey, central not Northern) never used Sanskrit. They had a indo-European language belonging to the Anatolian branch, which is very far away from Sanskrit, maybe in some sense the farthest away out of all the other Indo-European languages. The Mitanni were mostly in Syria and maybe in some pockets of southern Turkey. The Mitanni elite had Sanskritic ( indo-Aryan ) names and used some terms in their administrative documents. The confusion between Turkey and Syria may rise from the fact that there is a peace treaty between the Mitanni And the Hittite which refers to some early Vedic gods ( Varuna / Mitra etc ). Bear in mind though, this is the Mitanni side of the treaty. Ancient treaties would have two versions with each side invoking their gods to ratify the treaty.

AIM was trying hard to defend his friend. His arguments were not up to the mark. But still hearing different perspectives is a good thing.

I used to like Pervez but few things changed my opinion about him.
He suffers from Kushal what you call ‘Abrhamic Privilege Syndrome’ when it comes to Hindus.
AIM burping a lot, Kushal did you feed him Poha a lot?

Sirs, don't bother what Professor Saheb says about India in his latest book. He is making a case for Pakistani audience as a liberal, secularist, highly educated intellectual. His emphasis on education is remarkable. He is a rare type of Pakistani.

earlier i used to believe hudboy was intelligent, but one thing i noticed through this podcast and learn his book, he has read just single narrative on particular topic which is mostly suggested by western scholars who themselves has particular narrative and agendas..this proves pakistanis dont read much and do proper research even their so called biggest experts..but atleast he is open to discussion unlike other so called pakistani expert but still needed to see his debate with expert with different narrative

Riga Veda may be written in Punjab haryana region but Maharishi Veda Vyas was not from that region , he was born in an island (river side) near Yamuna river in UP and his father Maharishi Parashar also was born in UP and so was his great grand father Maharishi vashisht .

Saraswati is in Afghanistan. It originates in Ghazni province and flows through helmand province. It is now called Argandarwdab (arv-ghandharv-aab - river of Gandharvas) and was called Harhavati in old iranian texts. Thats saraswati in its sister language sanskrit.

Harhavati is not even a river but a rivulet joining Helmund. Whereas Saraswati is a mighty river. Saraswati is not just mentioned in but in Mahabharata too, which depicts it as a mighty river flowing from Himalayas to ocean.
