There were supposed to be 8 M-word bosses, not counting the Cadre, but two of them got turned into secret bosses, and one got shoehorned into the boss rush with no fanfare, because Capcom told them they needed to cut back on dungeons and story. There's also some concept art that implied there could've been more Hyper Mode armors for X, a cameo for classic Mega Man with a Command Mission style redesign, and a continuation of Cut Man's cameo that fits the PS2 X8 save file connectivity.
I have the sinking suspicion that Massimo might have been design after .hack//IMOQ's Piros, and then Piros The 3rd in .hack//G.U. was designed after Glint Armor Massimo hehehe
