Went to Metrograph as one of the first things I did when I landed in the US almost two years ago, saw Nick’s book on Dragon Inn upstairs, watched it, loved it. Thank you

Wonderful insights. I very much enjoyed Nick Pinkerton's book on _Goodbye, Dragon Inn_ (seen at the beginning of this vid).

Are the characters ghosts? I had this impression throughout the entire movie

No, but they could as well be - the cinema is almost like a haunted house.

They might as well been for how boring the movie was.

That could be it… or maybe the full house shown at the beginning isn’t a flashback but a view of the spirits that remain in the theater. Either way, both are cool interpretations
