    I remember when the beach in N. Wildwood was big & Wildwood Crest was small. I remember when Crest Pier was over the ocean, even in 1985. Now the beach is huge! It's like a mile walk from the street to the ocean

      My dad operated one of the rides one summer back in the 70's. He would lower his 6 pack into the ocean from the window of the control booth to keep it cold!!!!

    I love Wildwood I always did it's a shame to see so much of the beach gone. This is going to be my final resting place. I had so many memories with my children best times of my life.❤❤

    One day, probably in Joey’s lifetime, Wildwood, and all the other barrier islands like Long Beach Island in New Jersey will be gone. The ocean is going to reclaim what it wants and you’re never going to stop it. This is why people should not live on barrier islands.

    So sad. I remember that beach being huge when i was a kid going there with my family. Now my Aunt is in ww crest and that beach is huge now. The fishing pier isn’t even close to the water

    I am reminded of an old saying: If you want to enjoy the beach at Cape May, go to Atlantic City. There are some offshore gun emplacements that were put in at the start of WW2. When they were put in, they were 100 yards up the beach. The Cape May lighthouse has been moved 3 times, I believe. Yet, we still love Cape May, for the sun and surf.

    When I was a kid the beach at Lavender was 200ft from the pavement to high tide. Looks like it's gone back to that.

    Heard on one of the Philly news broadcast that they are unable to bring ( guess free ) truckloads of sand up from the Crest beach because the water is now up to one of the amusement piets.

  • @garbo8962
    @garbo8962 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Have posted this before. We used to stay at beach court & beach cove hotels at 19th Street right off the boardwalk. Water would come past the boardwalk at high tide there back in the 1960's. Now beach is too long of a walk. Can no longer hear the waves. Maybe when the mayor of next town ( Wildwood ) gets out of jail he can help. One question how can anybody be a mayor of a town while living in Philadelphia over 90 miles away?

    I was there in mid October of 2022, after a storm, and dunes looked almost exactly same them. That huge drop could very dangerous to young children this summer. Thanks for sharing Joey.

    • @WildwoodVideoArchive
      @WildwoodVideoArchive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      hey Ron, this is very different from the erosion in October of 2022. Remember that since then the city smoothed down this area (made it looks like a dune again). This time, we are 60% past where the dune first was and we lost even more sand in front of it exposing older dune roots. At first glace it may look the same but we are well past the point of (oh this is just more erosion). We need the bulkhead

    • @RonaldBrown59
      @RonaldBrown59 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@WildwoodVideoArchive I read the city got sued after smoothed down the dunes. This is turning into a bad situation all around. I need to get back down there. On another topic, I heard Wildwood was trying ban drone flying.

    • @WildwoodVideoArchive
      @WildwoodVideoArchive  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RonaldBrown59 they didn't get sued for smoothing down the dunes. You are confusing that with them being sued for removing the dunes and adding bulkheads. And we had that drone ban thrown out for now

      Damn. Every year I take my family down there and stay at the El Matador. We like it there because it’s where the boardwalk begins and the beach was perfect size. Guess I won’t be staying there this year.

    To bad they built Ocean Ave. If they didn't, we wouldn't have this problem today.

    • @daveyoder9231
      @daveyoder9231 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I'm afraid I don't see the connection. Not saying that you are wrong, just not clear on how Ocean's construction altered the alongshore currents.

    • @WildwoodVideoArchive
      @WildwoodVideoArchive  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@daveyoder9231 Ocean ave used to be the beach with massive amount of vegetation and some dune. When the beaches got too wide the city decided to build up this area and create down to JFK. If that area wasn't developed there would have been plenty of beach protecting the island

    Crazy how this beach is compared ti the 80's. It was so big and long. Also was that way up around 3rd st. One yr at the firemens conv. A guy drove his car right in the ocean off 3rd st. Its crazy how the ocean changes the landscape. They used to have to dredge the inkets too!!

    Frustrating to see....While NJ DEP sits on its hands, NW tries to remedy the issue.. and then NW gets taken to court and fined by the DEP. But State gov't still has its hand out when it comes to sales tax from NW ....Gov't needs to get its act together and figure this out, but I won't hold my breath.
