Wonderful video - making it possible for me to experience the childhood streets of the lovely Whitney Houston. I´m a big fan of her, and I have studied her life for several years now. I´m watching this video sitting in my bed in Copenhagen, Denmark, listening to Nippy´s song "I believe in you and me" from the movie "The Preachers wife (1997). Just a wonderful movie with a lot of unique gospel songs.
I currently live in the South (17yrs). I was born and raised in Newark (70's baby) and the surrounding areas. The one thing I miss the most (other than family and friends) is the food, diversity, and culture. Especially the food. I took for granted being able to get authentic Italian, Brazilian, Jamaican, Indian, etc. food at any time any day of the week. Even the soul food tastes better to me up there. The music, proximity to NYC, airport with direct flights, etc.
Thank you for your comment. I have recently taken an interest in the state of New Jersey for some reason and I would like to experience the state and city of Newark sometime. I live in Arkansas and I think I would enjoy living in a state that gets 4 distinct seasons for a change. We actually have a town in Ark. named Newark and spelled the same way.
Newark gets such a bad rap, but this video proves there are parts of it that are just as thriving and just as well-maintained as many other cities with good raps in America.
As you're driving through downtown Newark, I'm taking a mental stroll through memory lane. Me and my mom used to catch the bus to downtown Newark. There are buildings that stand out: The Prudential building, and the other two buildings in the background (1:30 American flags waving in the wind). I also remember the old cathedral style church on the right 1:30. Bitter sweet nostalgia.
Broad Street has a lot of the old churches still standing. They have so much charm and architectural significance. They're pretty too! Thanks "J", for letting me ride along. Like the HD viewing too.
Let me guess the first one is Broad st going toward Market st. , you'll be passing the famous Rich and Sons Pawn shop on your left, you stayed on Broad st, passing NJ Transit Newark station and are going toward the Spanish part of Newark of North Broad street, passing a Burger King on your left....
Years ago my brother in-law was living in the projects! He purchased a used caddy! He lived on the 10th floor well he was excited to point out the car from his apartment that overlooked the parking lot! While pointing at it and describing the deal suddenly the car started up and drove away. He got the car back a month later in Patterson..it was trashed..
