  • I had heard so many bad things about 68gsm Sanzen Tomoe River Paper that I could not wait to receive my Take A Note Planner for 2025 and test it myself. In this video, I briefly share the setup of the planner that I will be using as a creative journal. Then, I test all the relevant media I want to use while creative journaling and compare it to 52 gsm Sanzen Tomoe River Paper. In short, the paper will work for my purposes, yay!

I heard bad things about the 68 gsm paper from some pen tests that just scribbles did, but maybe the take anote is different tomoe river stock... it looks so good! thanks for sharing!

Could be - I had heard the same things as well, so I was quite anxious to see if the paper would hold up to all the media I normally use for journaling.

I’m expecting my Take-a-Note in the mail any day now so this was very helpful! I also got a Hobonichi Cousin this year and was disappointed in the bleed through on that - but this seems to be much better. *whew*

Hi Simone-you could have just asked me about TRP 68 and I would have told you everything you just found out! ha ha. I really like the paper and have used it for journaling (all FP writing) and planning. For my creative/memory keeping I'm using the TRC 003 MD white which can handle just about anything and FP are good on it as well. I keep looking for a blank MD white or TRP 68 notebook TN standard size with enough pages for the whole year instead of having to use two 64 pg. books. (not asking for much😉) Glad you found your new creative journal! Hope you enjoy it.

Well, you could have just told me! I used 68 gsm old TRP for journaling and I liked it, but didn't love it. I bought this mainly for the layout - knowing that I would be ok with the paper. But then some 68 gsm Sanzen paper tests made me very nervous.

@@seemownay TBH what I've used is from Taroko and Goulet and not this year so maybe it was the old? I am SO tempted to get a layout with the dates on vertical layout. I totally get why you need that bit of structure. I end up drawing small boxes along the top of my layout with the dates along with a highlight from the day and then start writing and putting pics and ephemera onto the layout. I shudder at grid, dots, or the timeline that TRC, Sterling Ink and others have. Sigh....I have a couple more refills to use up so maybe by the time I'm done I will have found something else to my liking. Looking forward to seeing how the Take a Note will work for you.

Thanks for doing this test, Simone. But to compare colors, be sure to take out the pencil board-I think it's affecting the color of the ink swatch. 😉 By the way, I am also SO EXCITED to be using Take A Note planners for 2025. I got the A5 regular for my work planner and the B5 medium for my personal journal. I am already using one of the latter as a journal for 2024 (since June, when I first heard about this company) and I really, really like it! I am doing so much more writing with my fountain pens because of it!

I hope you enjoy your Take A Note planners too! I've liked them for a while now, but never had a good use for them. Can't wait to start using it.

I realized later how disgusting it looked. Nothing serious, just cracks I was trying to keep moisturized.
