  • First vlog on the new bike. Moved from R1200GS LC to R1200RT LE LC 2015 but 2016 model. Not that they've changed anything - lol. Really happy with it so far. I've only done around 350 miles on this one. Still awaiting the better weather. Will do a separate walk around and ride video about the bike when there's a better day, someday soon...
    Thank you very much for watching my video on GadgetsandWheels. If you liked it, please don't forget to subscribe for more in the future.

    They are ok but could be a lot better.
    I have a 2015.
    I just love the glowing online reviews which are usually 100% positive like glorified infomercials.
    The motorcycle buying public needs honest reviews both of the positives and the negatives.

      Yeah, they do have ups n downs. And its often difficult to get the right pitch when reviewing a bike. There's no substitute for a good test ride. Apart from owning the bike for several thousand miles. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Would BMW seriously not repair that suspension problem?? You've got to be kidding me! Someone pays 25 grand for a bike, and they should be giving you a back rub every time you walk into the dealership.....

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They'd probably rub people up the wrong way 😌

      +MrDuhfactor the Stop Ride program was one of the best outcomes any company has done with consumers, get your money back, get a loan bike, get free gifts and wait for the repair. BMW also did a full recall on all switches on bikes regardless of age or in or out of warranty, they are a company that always stands behind their product hence why I am buying for 3rd BMW without any concern of service issues

      That's great +PoddyWack13 , I didn't know that, given that information, it makes repairs more palatable. I was just surprised at how many issues he had initially, although I think they are good bikes generally, and have an Oldie' R1150GSA myself.

      Without doubt, BMW needs to focus its behavioural design efforts much more on the integrity and rigour of its component manufacturers. This RT after only 2500 miles needed a new switch pack after the cruise control stopped working. That followed by all the problems, including switches with the 2015 GSA, it clearly demonstrates that this is a systemic failure. That said, the RT is a great bike. There is no room however for ongoing failure if BMW is to maintain its brand credentials.

    Glad you decided to put garage petrol in your bike as supermarket petrol especially TESCO petrol killed my bike with the Ethanol they put in it .Cheaper petrol is not the ideal way to go as i found out

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Caterpillar Case I've heard other people mention similar things but not heard anyone having it kill their bike. I have occasionally used supermarket petrol but usually put the premium grade in this which is what they recommend. Thanks for watching and commenting!

    Bloody adventure rider my arse. LOL
    A wee bit of wind and rain and he takes the van. Nice bike, did they do a free swap?
    I think that's water in the mic connection at the end, mine gave up due to that.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +IRISHROVER No free swap I'm afraid! BMW, in my experience, does nothing for free. Yes, re the mic, I think you are right.

    I had a GTR 1400 it was a nightmare in high winds on the M 62 in high winds blowing across the motorway it took me from lane 1to 3 and I was unable to stop it thank god I was on my own otherwise God knows we're I would have ended up the bike was sold two months later and replaced with a VFR1200 ! I've never returned to a large fairing since I now have had my GSX 1250 for 3 years your a hero for riding in that mate best wishes RSMF .

    Congratulations, my friend! You already know how much I love my RT. The changes that they've made since 2009 are that the engine is now water cooled instead of oil cooled, there are more whistles and bells available and the horsepower has gone up from 110 to 125. On the other hand, the weight has gone up approximately 40 pounds and the gas tank has lost about a gallon in capacity. Mine is a 7.1 gallon tank. In 2011, I was hit by a sudden unexpected 57MPH side blast of wind. The bike did shudder, but I was amazed at how well the bike took that. As bad as my vacation went this past summer with other issues, I knew that the bike was not something to worry about, and it was the only thing that worked flawlessly. Enjoy!

    why is the nose cone grey,the tank blue and the rear box another color?

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question.

    • @busterrabbit
      @busterrabbit 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +MrBradfordbiker Because the box is the smaller topbox and not colour matched, probably because the proper full size top box for the RT and K1600GT is expensive. One with central locking and additional brakelight for my K1600GT was just over £1,000. The smaller box in grey, as fitted to this RT fits on the same rack and is around half the price. You pays your money etc.

    Great review. With regards to riding in the wind, after I'd done a day's training with i2imca.com (I haven't any connection with them) where they teach you stuff like riding in bad weather etc. I cannot recommend the machine control day 1 enough. I've been riding since 1980 and the course blew me away! We were loaned the RT before we collected the K1600 GTLE and because I was excited at the prospect of riding the GTLE, I guess I didn't like the RT. However I am warming to the bike now. I'd definitely get one when the time comes to part with the K1600. Thanks for sharing.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Biker Paul Thanks. It's not a training for this particular aspect. It's the way the bike handles in strong gusts of wind. I've tried all the techniques and heard the theories about wind cannot steer the bike (which simply isn't true). People sometimes refer to gyroscopic properties as if you have two fixed in plane wheels. On a bike, you do not. The wind pushes the bike to one side and relaxing with it allows it to steer quite violently that way. Without counter steering back in line (and even with doing so) I've ended up facing oncoming traffic a few times.

    • @npr1300A8
      @npr1300A8 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gadgetsandwheels Okay. I've had two Pans, two Goldwings, an FJR and now the K1600 and I know I felt much more confident after the training to get rid of 'stories' in my mind. The training is worth doing anyway however. Ride safe.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Biker Paul I'm not saying the training hasn't helped you. What I am trying to say also comes from experience of years of riding and I've owned a GSXR, Diversion, Fazer, Pan ST1300, VFR800, 2 GSs, a GSA and now this RT. So far, this is truly the worst of all of them for riding in strong gusts of wind. It really is worlds apart.

  • @TheDervMan
    @TheDervMan 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi G&W, Can't believe the Adv has gone :-( I am intrigued that you got rid of GS due to poor build quality/bad support from BMW but you went and got another BMW.... Lovely bike though, love the way you can answer the phone while on the move.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +DervMan Yeah, it doesn't take long before you realise that most bike and car dealers are less helpful come after-sales time. I just liked the bike so I got it. If I have similar problems, then I my try a different brand.

  • @Jimo368
    @Jimo368 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wow, you have Texaco stations in the UK? I guess that's no diff than all the BP stations here. I've thought of trading my Pan for an RT but am leery of too much tech that will be a constant source of agro.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes. Texaco been here all my life but less stations now. I used to have a Pan Euro some years ago. I'm really enjoying the RT so far. There's always the risk of the electronics going but you kinda have to forget about that and decide if you want to take the plunge 😉 whatever you decide, all the best for 2016. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Theknotman1964 Yes they have had a spell of making speedos smaller. Although this one is slightly easier to see than the GSA I had just before. Even easier at night time when it backlights the numbers.

  • @cruellordsoth
    @cruellordsoth 8 ปีที่แล้ว

    so you did not like the R1200gs? this bike is more of a road bike

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +cruellordsoth I liked it to a large degree but not when they (BMW) started messing me around with not fixing the front suspension issue and providing unlikely reasons for it after initially insisting the front strut was the root cause. Yes, the RT is more of a road bike but let's be honest, so is the GSA. It's used off-road very infrequently by a minority of owners. After owning 3 GS bikes, I had forgotten how having a more stable, less noisy, quicker off the mark, smoother, more agile bike makes riding faster and slower more pleasurable and just more fun. I'm not writing-off the GSA but the quality of build has slipped from that of previous models in my opinion and the handling and suspension issue on the one I had made it painful to own having thrown £17k at it when it felt unsafe to ride around bends. I used an RT as a loner bike and found it to be much better in nearly every respect - it became a no-brainer really.

    Got mine on oct 31st. Due mainly to weather I've made just 1300km. Wonderful machine except for the gear that is ridiculous on this class. Too many cluncky clanks...

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, BMW are kinda known for clunky clanks however to resolve many of those, try sustaining higher revs before changing up the box. It likes running around 3000rpm in gear and to 4000 before a change as a rough guide in my experience so far. At slower speeds, it feels like you are over revving it a bit in a lower gear but then changes smoothly up into the next year at 4000rpm. Hope that makes sense and if you try it, it works for you too. All the best and thanks for watching/commenting.

    guessing they would not repair the gs for you a 2nd time
    i was up at baitings dam about 4 or 5 week back

    • @MotoGoYo
      @MotoGoYo  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +thejediukuk No, it was ridiculous of me to expect the BMW dealers to do anything right. I should have known better and actually I did. I'd decided about a swap some weeks before it went wrong a second time. The moment it did I gave them it for a week to sort it and they still hadn't got it right. Just something not right about having 3 faults on a bike 5 months old. Most of which started going wrong at 3 months old. It's a place I don't go through often these days but some reasonable roads around there.

    • @thejediukuk
      @thejediukuk 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +gadgetsandwheels i think its time for you to write to bmw uk and see what they have to say about it as it just not right
