American comics are traditionally lettered with all capital letters, which is why the manga are like that too. I believe it was easier to print capital letters back when they had to use physical printing plates before modern digital printing, and most publishers still do it because of convention.
As a longtime employee of Barnes & Noble, across multiple stores, I can honestly say that all manner of professionalism would go away if I saw you in one of my stores, haha. I'd be too excited.
Manga is more expensive because it costs more to produce in the US. There's translators to pay, licenses and royalties to cover, they're bigger here and the paper is better quality (manga volumes sold in Japan are pretty small and the paper is more like newspaper). It's the same with light novels, the US equivalent is twice the size of the Japanese ones (both in height and thickness) since Japanese is such a condensed written language. All caps comic lettering is supposed to be easier to read, but I guess if you're used to reading things lowercase like in a book it could be a little difficult if you aren't used to it yet.
Honestly, I would prefer it if US manga was small and floppy with little dust jackets compared to the giant hardcover editions we get in the U.S., they're also easier to collect a lot of (I run out of room on my bookshelf, LOL)
You prolly dont give a shit but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream all of the new movies on InstaFlixxer. I've been binge watching with my brother for the last couple of days :)
Kana-chan your English is wonderful...i always tell my Thai students to watch English movies and use Thai captions to understand how the words are spoken...your English good.. no worries this..your match with Nia was amazing your moves and countermoves you know how to defeat her..others cannot understand this... that is why you are champion...thank you for another great episode of Kana-chan TV..
Your English is already far better than you give yourself credit for. Sticking to ones you're familiar with at first will definitely make it a lot easier to get through them in English.
I cant believe no one recognizes her when she goes out in public she is arguably the best female wrestler in the world i wish more people paid attention to everything this woman has accomplished in her craft
I was a wresting fan from back in the day, 30 years ago or so, stopped watching after the attitude era. A few years ago I learned there was a major star from my hometown, Cincinnati, Ohio. I started watching again and along with Dean Ambrose I saw Becky Lynch. She was awesome, later I saw Asuka. You are the only reason I keep watching WWE. I love seeing your youtube videos to see the real you. It's just fun and brightens my day,
Kana likes DeathNote! Yes! Please read it when you get the chance. Most manga translations have ALL CAPITOL letters because in America all capitols tends to make it easier to read for most readers. But there are also comics with lower case letters as well that would make it easier to read for people who learned english as a second language.
I'm planning on reading Spy x Family soon, and I heard it is an anime adaptation soon. Chainsaw Man is good too. I started reading Kimetsu no Yaiba a while back, but I haven't finished it yet. I'm also reading Attack on Titan and that manga is almost done.
Me emocione cuando vi a asuka agarrando el manga de Tokyo Ghoul es mi anime Favorito amo la WWE My Luchadora Favorita es Asuka y ver k también le gusta el anime y Mangas me llena de alegría y felicidad
My favorite anime is The Promised Neverland too! 😱 I read the manga long before the anime tho but I never finished reading the last arc. I'm excited for season 2!
When I was in Japanese class, Sensei used Dragon Ball Z mangas to help teach us Nihongo! So the original Japanese prints can also be used the other way around!
I can listen to Kanachan talk all day about anime... I got into the Berserk series thanks to her video from last year where she went shopping for mangas. Berserk became my fave manga after that day.
Kana-chan, I've been watching your career for a few years and your english has been improving a lot over time. I can't wait to hear you cut some killer promos in english again once you are ready. Keep up the good work!
@@emerje0 Don't get me wrong, her japanese promos are great and they give us westerners a taste of Joshi wrestling. Kana-chan has been working on her english for a while now though and I think she'd be very happy for her western fans to enjoy her work in english too.
Kana, do not stress about learning English. I am happy you found a way to help learn that you enjoy. You will conquer this strange language of English one day. Enjoy those books. Stay safe beautiful warrior.
The capital letters in translated manga is also a thing in american comics. It was cheaper to just have all caps at the time so you didn't need another 26 set of letter typebars for the printers. I think also it was because lower case letters tended to blend in or space weirdly when printed. It just became the style after a while.
Maybe you can have a chart with all the letters and so if you see one you don't know you can write it in lower case. Might be a good way to learn all the English alphabet well. Good luck with your study!
Listening to Kana talk about anything interests me, even with some of those Mangas, i've watched them in my past. If anything, she makes me wanna read and watch them again.
Kanachan fangirling over Hi-Score Girl was great. Me too, Kanachan. I haven't binged an anime in a while but I watched all of Hi-Score Girl season 2 in a day I think lol. I loved it.
Kana has shown a couple of fan interactions in her videos. I'd guess, however, that she edits most of them out. Note how she rarely shows the face of people in stores and restaurants.
She edits out a lot of them. Plus, you realize wrestling isn't as popular today as it used to be, right? Many people don't even know who Roman Reigns and Becky Lynch are, even with how hard the WWE pushes them.
American comics use all capital letters because the printing was so poor in the early days that caps were more readable. it's since become the standard for comics (and manga) printed in English. I'm not sure sure what they're putting in young adult sections now but I wonder if your English teacher was thinking more along the lines of Judy Blume or Beverly Cleary.
That’s my favorite Tokyo ghoul is my favorite anime because i love Japanese song of Tokyo ghoul and Tokyo re song as well and I never read any manga but I just watch Tokyo ghoul and I love the sub of listening Japanese language is my favorite by learning Japanese but my Japanese isn’t really that great because I’m still learning Japanese because Japanese anime is the best and I also watch Japanese drama tv show series And I also watch ultraman and kamen rider movies and shows like watch Japanese movies and shows because I’m a big fan of Japanese things
Asuka is awesome she's like the true dream girl, she's beautiful, smart, funny , she's a gamer nerd. She's the total package. With a touch of a major sugar high.
Fullmetal Alchemist was my first manga/anime, so it's very special to me! Hiromu Arakawa is so brilliant and talented! My favorite male mangaka is Hiro Mashima. Fairy Tail and Edens Zero are so fun to read! Tokyo Ghoul is great but it can get really crazy if you're not used to gore filled manga. It gets pretty nasty lol SO MUCH GREAT MANGA!
I never noticed that most manga are typeset in capitals, but looking through mine, that's really all they are. I can see how hard that would be for a non native speaker who's learning to read.
When I saw the title of this video I was all set to suggest Hi Score Girl. I should have known someone of such refined taste would already be on it. Anyone reading this that hasn't watched it on Netflix, get on it.
Nice choice with Tokyo Ghoul. I would have had a hard time picking, especially with the Junji Ito (can't wait for Uzumaki's anime release). Also Promised Neverland was great and I'm eager for season 2.
Asuka-san try some American comics too... Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman is good or Grant Morrison's Justice League or Spider-Man if want a character that talks a lot
I absolutely love that Asuka's favorite anime is Hi-Score Girl
Her English is getting way better.
American comics are traditionally lettered with all capital letters, which is why the manga are like that too. I believe it was easier to print capital letters back when they had to use physical printing plates before modern digital printing, and most publishers still do it because of convention.
Holy crap....the perks of being champ....being able to afford FIVE manga volumes goodness Empress!! 😮😂👍👍

I never realized English manga was written in all capital letters. I guess my brain just ignores it.
Comics in general tend to be. For us, capital letters are like reading lowercase, yet for her, it seems difficult.
Your English is already far better than you give yourself credit for. Sticking to ones you're familiar with at first will definitely make it a lot easier to get through them in English.
Agreed.
The Yakusoko No Neverland manga is really good!!!
I cant believe no one recognizes her when she goes out in public she is arguably the best female wrestler in the world i wish more people paid attention to everything this woman has accomplished in her craft
It’s the glasses. Secret identity like superman.
Maybe she cuts it out of the episode. Ever think about that?
She's been doing this for a while. They're probably used to her and the cameraman by now.
Tokyo Ghoul! Great Choice, my personal favorite.

Kana-chan, I've been watching your career for a few years and your english has been improving a lot over time. I can't wait to hear you cut some killer promos in english again once you are ready. Keep up the good work!
Here English is better, but I live for her random Japanese promos.

@@CedricThePlaystation Yes, why? You don't need my permission, like what you like!

I remember that video. The worker recognized you and said her friend was a huge fan. How time flies.

Thank you for continuing to bring so much joy, Kana.

It might help to get a manga you have already own in Japanese so you can look at both to help translate words and ideas.
Maybe you can have a chart with all the letters and so if you see one you don't know you can write it in lower case. Might be a good way to learn all the English alphabet well. Good luck with your study!

you should try a Stephen King story someday! his novels are quite interesting!
That's great. I love your book store shopping. I bought Who's Michael & love it!!!
You go girl!

I will never understand how you go into all these places and nobody recognizes you.
Hair is a dead giveaway
Well, it could also be that some people are either timid, or they don’t want to bother her.
Maybe they just think its an Asuka fan
Kana has shown a couple of fan interactions in her videos. I'd guess, however, that she edits most of them out. Note how she rarely shows the face of people in stores and restaurants.
