Looking at this list just makes me think about how crazy it is that Mike Tomlin has found as much success as he has. It's kind of insane how many wins he has been able to get with that list of QB play outside of an aging Big Ben.

Russell Wilson cannot see over the offensive line, Russell Wilson cannot throw a WR open, Russell Wilson cannot throw on time. Russell Wilson not being able to throw on time is the reason he was booted from Seattle, Russell Wilson not being able to throw on time and run the play the way it was called is the reason he was booted from Denver. Two great coaches did not want him. A coach or coordinator cannot set the defense up with play calling if the play is not run the way it was called. He drove coaches mad, and he is just good enough to be a 500 team.
Notice he adds "as a starter" for Trubiski and Pickett. But for all the other QBs on that list who weren't starters when they came to Pittsburgh, suddenly its Tomlin's fault they didnt have a career revival. You can make an argument for exactly two QBs on that list that Tomlin wasnt able to elevate to a professional level: Trubisky and Pickett. Big Ben is a hall of famer and everyone else was a backup when they got to the Steelers.
Roethlisberger (started for 18 years) retired in his late 30's
Pickett is in Philly
Rudolph (career backup) is in TN
Trubisky (a backup) is back in Buf
Batch (a backup) retired in his late 30"s
Hodges (a backup) finished elsewhere
Jones (career backup, late round pick) finished in another league
Leftwich retired in his mid-late 30's
Vick (came to Pgh at the end of his career) retired in his mid-late 30's
Dixon (career backup) went to Bal
Dobbs went to Cle, TN, Arizona, Min
Gradkowski (backup that came to Pgh at the end of his career) retired in his 30's
That list is the main reason for such inconsistent QB play. It also comes from winning so much. We don’t pick 1st round overall QB’s due to no losing seasons. Blessing and a curse.
And none of these bums had a losing record under tomlin 😂. Not to mention arthur smith revived ryan tannehill.
Those are QB facts. But like James said its a testament to Mike Tomlin that they won with them, not that they where great or could be great.

I can't believe you guys are acting like Acho isn't pointing out something extremely obvious... Tomlin and the Steelers have done absolutely nothing to develop any QB. They just dropped THE ENTIRE QB room this past offseason... couldn't find at least one worth keeping? They haven't developed at least one to remain as the backup or 3rd string? Russ doesn't need development, but what about Fields? How will they revive him? Nothing there is in place to help him develop other than watching Wilson and learning from him.
And just winning isn't enough. The Steelers already win, so the Steelers would need to improve noticeably in the win column to credit wins to the QB. Also, winning regular season games also grows old if you can't win games that matter. That's why there were already whispers last year of firing Tomlin last year. That's why great coaches throughout time have gotten let go even though they consistently win. If they don't win the championships, they're eventually gone. And if Wilson or Fields win at about the same rate the Steelers have been winning in years past, no one else is going to be fooled into thinking they're somehow worth some big-time deal. Everyone will realize they are managing the game at best and not the reason the team wins... they're comparable to Pickett and Trubisky unless they raise the ceiling.
