My Grandpa had a farm when we were growing up. My cousins lived near the farm and couldn’t wait to get outta there into the city. I couldn’t wait to get outta the city into the country. The farm era was over before we realized and I’ve missed it ever since. I think you guys have a great way of life.
hello, the videos of your farm are beautiful you showcase your work and your love of the trade you form a close family and it is very important to succeed. bravo of France and take care of you.
When Dad went to Sudex triple cross in 88, he didn't look back from leaving Corn. 14x45 Harder silo full kept 35 cows pretty even on milk Nov 1st to mid may no issues.
You've had a much better summer than around here. Folks can only dream of sorghum that nice. Most guys that planted it have around 2 ft. Tall and yellow.
I’m starting my new operation of silage next year love your videos it helps me figure out what I’m doing I’m starting my winter wheat next week and looking into sorghum to
I have been on farms where at least one person is always yelling and screaming. Your family always seems to be so calm and collected and organized. A pleasure to watch. Im sure there are times when patience wears thin. 😏
I'm not showing any disrespect ma'ma, but your the prettiest farmer I've ever seen. Thanks for sharing your family experience with us. You have a good evening. God bless
If the USA had about 1 million more like this hard workin' 'farmer wife, the country would improve overnight B 4 the non sense started that I deserve because I breath air & occupy space movement started!!!
It can be poisonous if the sorghum freezes. You have to harvest it before the first frost. But, if you don't plan on feeding it right away you can harvest after a frost and let it ferment for at least 2 weeks. Then it's safe to feed.
Ronda, do you feed the sorghum by itself, or do you blend it with other feeds? It must supply a lot of vitamins and minerals. I am not sure if this is the same type of sorghum that molasses is made from, but I love to eat molasses, even straight out of the jar with a spoon. LOL
Hay mowing Mama....great vid A++++++++++++++++++++++ I live on a farm but it's in crp we use to milk cows, raise tobacco down here in central Ky. bout 1200 acres
@@davidvogel6359 You could pasture the cattle on it, but cows cannot eat it once it freezes. Once it gets a frost the sorghum produces an acid that would make the cows sick. If we get a long Fall season we may try to get another cutting off of it. Wait and see...
@@acresofclayhomestead thanks for the reply we never had any sorghum on the farm so I don't know anything about it. We had the cows get out from the grass pasture into the new alfalfa field. One of them ate enough to founder and our veterinarian came out and stuck a small knife between her ribs to let the gas out. It sounded like deflating a truck tire when the gas came out but oh you talk about a terrible smell! We then had to follow her around to make sure she didn't lay down again and fill back up with gas and die. We had to get away up wind to get any oxygen to breathe. Then when she was able to get up we of course got her out of the field before she ate any more alfalfa. and clover. She survived but it was touch and go for a while.
Hey, at 2 minutes... You missed a spot!! LOL. I know, it happens. Choppers miss corn rows all the time 😂 We run a 10' pull type Moco, in heavy grass (4 ton of dry hay per acre) we have go faster to keep from plugging... In clover, that's usually lodged, then we go slow.. or this year everything was light, had to go slow or it would just push over and not cut. Thanks for the video!!!
Hope you didn't break a nail, just chopping down rows. Maybe the daughter should be doing this so can get lunch and supper put together for the hard working guys

Nice job I enjoy your videos and both of your herds.
You've had a much better summer than around here. Folks can only dream of sorghum that nice. Most guys that planted it have around 2 ft. Tall and yellow.
This was our first planted field and and I would say it's our best looking field of sorghum.
Thanks for another great video always fun to watch y’all

There are times when we all lose our cool, but we try to be joyful and thankful more than stressed and angry.
Having to go slow can be a blessing, is that 100 + bushels per acre?
It's not measured in bushels it's measure in tons. 😊
great video

Another awesome video. Thank you for sharing
Very nice...
Nice a good days work. You’re almost up to 4 grand!
Good video thanks for sharing
On a D.M basis have you guys compared yield between Corn Silage and Sorghum?
We've never done a real comparison because every year and field is different.
G'day Rhonda, why don't you bale that sorghum?. others bale it, i don't grow it myself. Good work.
It's much easier for us to feed and store if we chop it as a silage.
@@acresofclayhomestead And that is fair enough :)
Nice vid

Is there a trick to sorghum. When i was growing up , it could be poisonous to cows. ? Or so i was misled. I don't know
It can be poisonous if the sorghum freezes. You have to harvest it before the first frost. But, if you don't plan on feeding it right away you can harvest after a frost and let it ferment for at least 2 weeks. Then it's safe to feed.
"but since this Spring was so wet" :you are lucky!
Sorghum new one on me never heard of it and sure we don't have it here in the UK
They probably don't grow much, if any in the UK.
That's gonna make alot of feed👍
Nice looking sorghum, when did you plant it ?
Thanks! We planted it in the middle of July. Growing for 60 days.
Did you plant it with a drill or a corn planter?
We planted it with a 15 inch row corn planter.
You go girl, talk about getting her done.

We mix the sorghum with all the other silage and feed. I like molasses too!!
Hi.... Good morning dear friends
🙏❤️🙏Mesmerizing!

Love that you had a field of sorghum. Is it for fertilizer or molasses? Looks very healthy.
feed for moo moo's lol
Will that grow back or does it need planned again?
It will grow back, but it's cold sensitive and the first frost will kill it.
@@acresofclayhomestead Can you use it for pasture it you can't harvest it again before the frost? Or is it too rich and the cows would founder on it?

Oh no, I've heard of cows getting out and foundering on alfalfa, but thankfully we've never had one founder.
What kind of storage are you storing it in bag silo bunker
We pile it on concrete slab.
That is some of the shortest sorghum I have ever seen but at the same time it's still a good thick crop that is
Wow! 👍👍👍😎
Is it better feed before it heads out
Yes!
Love seeing a woman run equipment as I allways said a woman can do what a man does if not better ..love ya all and God bless
That’s called a new holland no rower
Nope but you see it cutting don't you

i like what you're doing but would rather hear the sounds of farming instead of the music.
Thanks for the advice!!! I never know what people would rather hear. Loud roaring machines or music. Thank again!
Very thick, healthy lookin' sorghum! Is that a BMR seed, looks very leafy?
Yes, BMR sorghum
This was painful to watch, my IQ just dropped
Hope you didn't break a nail, just chopping down rows. Maybe the daughter should be doing this so can get lunch and supper put together for the hard working guys
