  • Hi Everyone!
We’re back today testing out a floral hack I received from a former florist. This one is to perk up wilting roses from heat exhaustion or a bit too long without water. She let me know that when she was in the industry, if roses came a bit wilted, she would fill the bath tub full of ice water and submerge them to liven them up again for an event.
I’m not a florist, nor am I using a bathtub. But as an average person with their home bouquet, I want to see how easy this flower hack is to do and what the results are.
For today’s experiment, I’m using a lovely bouquet of lilies and yellow roses. The roses are just starting to wilt, so I thought would be a good time to test it out.
For my ‘bathtub’ I used a metal cake pan and filled it with ice water, then weighted the surprisingly buoyant flower buds down with heavy cutlery.
After about 20 minutes I dried my roses and put them in a vaseful of water.
Surprisingly, the flowers did seem to revive with the ice bath! However, by the next day, the edges of the flowers had started to brown, when the un-iced ones in the original vase had not. By day two, the stems were still perky, but the buds started to deteriorate quickly.
My friend had let me know this hack was to get you through an event, not revive the flowers. To that extent I think this completely works! However, it only seems to keep the flowers looking fresh for that same day you submerge them on.
