Andrew Shepherd can’t CC a CSM but you never have negative counts, the count is always 0, and you could hustle for casino comps with perfect basic strategy. Other than that, save up for a trip to the US
Collin I’ve lost almost all of my bankroll I started with 4500$ now at 1075$ after about 50 hours of playing at crowded tables this casino only offers 6:5 but I backcount until a true 4 when i have the edge. Anyway I don’t want to loose all my bankroll on these 6:5s tables at the only casino in my state is it worth the wait and only do this at 3:2 tables? Any advice would be much appreciated

Yoshi should definitely write a book if he hasn't already decided to do that and I'm sure he's a great player but there's no doubt about it that he was also extremely lucky to start with such a small amount and end up with so much in such a short amount of time without having as many hurdles or downswings as other players for sure.
That small bankroll was still large enough for lower limit tables. You need discipline and great money management skills. Those are 2 things most people don't have.
I used to sleep in the car all the time. One time, I got a room and was so uncomfortable in the bed that I went back out to the car to sleep. A couple hours later a security guard knocked on my window and said I couldn't sleep there because I wasn't a guest. I showed him my key and told him which room I was in. I know that took him by surprise, but he insisted that I go back to my room because sleeping in the car didn't look good for the hotel. That leads me to a question? Where have you guys found a good place to sleep? Casinos will run you out if you are sleeping in their lot. I used to sleep in Walmart parking lots, but they have cameras and I got run out of there too. Denny's used to be a good choice, as have hospitals. I even tried a police station to see if I could get away with it. I did. My favorite spot would be a car dealership - in the service area. I got caught here a couple of times, but after telling the salesmen I was a gambler, they got off on my story and let me stay.

This be extremely discouraging. Card counting requires near perfect skills regarding: counting, BS, deviations, betting deviations, money management and life management in general, to work. However, saying this guy got really really lucky would be an understatement - 9:22 + 23:45 Got really nice games only a few hours away. Great rules and great pen. Perfect for starting - 8:40 with the following variables his ROR was 5.9%, given he used HiLo: [TC x 10$ bet spread(no more than 60$, e.g. TC=9 is still 60$ bet)] [3k bankroll] [6D game] [S17 DAS Sr RSA rules] [92%pen] [no back counting(he mentined he just betted tabe minimum, 5$, 10$ at double deck games)] Though it's PROBABLY higher since adjusting any of the variables will result in an icnrease ROR and this specific game is EXTREMELY RARE. Furthermore, everyone is human and thus we make mistakes, even more so when we are starting out, like he stated. Just change the pen to 83%(5/6 decks), and the rules to [H17 DAS RSA] and you're looking at a ROR of at least 20.5% Needles to say, he got lucky - 13:05 grossly overbetting but it worked out, - 14:35 + 25:56 didn't have crippling loosing streaks that caused him to re-size. 2500 hours is a lot of time. That's 25 hours a week for 50 weeks a year or 30 weeks(5 day week) at 8 hours per day. This man was driven and dedicated. If you do this take some breaks, enjoy time alone or make sure you have friends all around the country you can visit. Yoshi averaged $480/hour! Amazing!

I don’t have betting software but with a 2% risk of ruin and assuming a binomial distribution (which is what the distribution roughly is for estimation sake) you have around a 10% chance of losing 60% bankroll. At that point though you’re going to have to resize otherwise your risk is too high. I just comment what I did before because a lot of new card counters way over bet their usually sub 10k bankrolls because if you’re only 2% risk of ruin on 10k bankroll your EV is not great.

At that rate I'd imagine you aren't, and probably shouldn't since your EV will already be low even if playing perfectly.
Yea, I got heat and was only playing perfect basic strategy ( this was 1979 in AC when I first started. Caught the eye of a guy who had a cable gambling show and I saw my interest and perfect basic strategy, but my math sucked. ( Its sucked since I was 12. I was english and reading and there was no computers yet). So as he moved in on a pretty 19 yr old we were talking and he taught me hi-lo, but my speed was a nightmare. So one night I got lucky and got heat w only basic strategy and not perfect hi-lo and some true count. Not the way to start. But I played not to be a card counter but to combine not perfect, but luck. All of a sudden HEAT. I saw them and couldn't believe it. A $700 bankroll and 5 hour play and the heat came at $2300. I left cos I sensed the back off. A week later, having spent most of the 23, I went down AC to see a friend and same casino and $600 bankroll. Luck again and HEAT again. This time very minimal skill low bankroll, and luck. This time $3800. And here they came. Luck. Im thinking now after 30 years of a partner with REAL. SPEED and really trying it.
very true you can get heat just from luck. I use basic strategy, betting strategies with luck and got heat for that too. I dont even count cards that's the funny and crazy things. Casino just dont like winners.
Great podcast and great story. In addiction recovery we use a term called “romancing the drug” which is reminiscing about the good times you had while using after you have been clean and sober for a few weeks or months. I wouldn’t call card counting an addiction the way you guys do it, but as we know gambling (you don’t gamble) is highly addictive. So, just a warning to your listeners, if you think you may be addicted to gambling, you probably already are and your family and friends know it. These guys have managed to keep it in perspective and keep it a business. Yoshi said he knows if he starts up again that there is a real possibility he could hit a losing streak. To date he was lucky enough never to have a long streak his bankroll could not absorb. Beware, all you gonnabe, wannabe, card suckin, buffet eatin pranksters, these guys are the elite of the blackjack world and they don’t flex nuts.
Can you Talk about Balanced Vs unBalanced Counts... I use an Unbalanced KO count, Can I still attend the Course you offer and get alot out of it or should I switch to the True Count system

But it was a true grind and only kept going for a few weeks after that post. had a single 2-3 SD loss day, tilted and lost my 500% profit I was standing on, built over a couple months, grinding 6 hours a night... If I kept with the same minimums and discipline I could have made that 40$ into 100K ;P but it would have taken 2-3 more years LOL and with the software they have Im sure they can track a counter over such a long time frame. The technique is to backcount on either a table you can bet behind or a table where hundreds play the same hand. You never play unless the true count is more than 4. means you will count 2 hours without betting sometimes. as I said, It works, but it takes crazy discipline.
I have no doubt this will be me if someone helps me. I can go through a 4 deck shoe with zero errors knowing every card played. I'm loyal and honest and have practiced for years training for this. I need a mentor and training. Although I have great memory when it comes to numbers there's a lot for me to learn still but, I need mentorship to further my skill from this point forward.
HI Colin, I'm from Australia. After watching your video and I visited Casino last night. Since card counting isn't working on continuous automatic shuffle(CAS) machine, and only the high tables starting from $50 have the shoe with 8 decks of cards. Without having a strong team. there's no way to beat casino. What do you think?? Ellie from Melbourne
All of the standard BJ tables in Australia use the CAS. Having access to the higher rooms will mean having a large bankroll. If bankroll is an issue would you consider taking what ever bankroll you have and your skills (playing perfect blackjack strategy + card counting) to a south east asian country like Philippines, Cambodia or Vietnam where there are many casinos which do not have the CAS. Take a couple week holiday and see how you go, of all things you've funded your holiday :)
I hear his story and then I think of how many hours I must have logged by now just to continue being in the red. I'm convinced I'm a terrible counter and casinos love me which is why they don't kick me out all that often. I love Blackjack but I hate the swings, they're brutal. I can't handle them financially or emotionally. God, if I have to spend one more day working for somebody else, I swear this story ends with me and a rope in the closet.
Maybe worth doing BJAs test out and verify? Also if the variance is too much financially never mind emotionally, then I guess you need to reassess your bankroll. If it's not enriching your life then maybe take a break and do something you enjoy for a while

If you're gonna do this full time you either need extreme luck like Yoshi and Colin here or you need like a good 50/60k to get on with it. I had $25k and still couldn't manage it. This is a hobby, anyone doing this full time is either lying, very lucky, and in the extremely rare cases, actually good enough to do it full time. I'm burnt out. I play a little hear and there but nothing like I used to. Waste of two years of my life.

It’s possible your game wasn’t good enough, it’s possible you had horrible variance. But the important thing is knowing when to walk away. Yoshi later said that he doesn’t think anyone should go full time unless they have 200-300K saved up after he had a full time losing YEAR.

Cash in excess of $10,000 can be confiscated by law enforcement with no probable cause. Look up civil asset forfeiture. I'm not certain that's why they do it but that's all I can think of.
Hey i found my local casino have a blackjack tables that everytime at the beginning of each game, the dealer will draw 1 card from the deck and place it to the graveyard (i call it graveyard lol). Is card counting still works?
There's not a binary answer. It depends on your bet spread. You can use software (CVCX or our Bankroll Management App) to help you navigate bankroll management.

Question, once you started having a bigger bank roll, did you keep your money in a bank or did you prefer to have it in cash? It’s when you give your ID to the casino and they give you a “player’s card” and you show it at each tracks you post at and that “track your play” including average bet, duration and actual win/loss.
I'm not sure what your question is. could you re-phrase it? as a hard and fast rule, we recommend following basic strategy. this is the exact mathematically correct play for every single situation at the blackjack table. after basic strategy, start implementing card counting and deviations.
i listened to this whole thing while using the BJA perfect strategy drill sim. got through over 500 hands! if it's a grind, i'm already a pro. I specialize in grinding on games. over 350 hours in MGSV, over a thousand hours on final fantasy, grinding and building is just something my lizard brain loves to engage in. This is just the next game for me.

Yoshi was playing something like 80-100 hours/month at probably $400-$500/hour EV for 2 years. To find casinos that will give you table time at those stakes to the tune of 100 hours/month is a serious grind. No luck involved here, just sheer grind.
I'm in the casino about 5 to 7 hours a day which averages to 100 hours per month. I'm no where near $800k. I've been doing this for 5 years. Essentially, what I'm saying he would had to generated positive EV every session and no losses, or if he did lose it wasnt large enough to deplete profits
I've got at least 150 hours under my belt by now and I spent months building my bankroll only to have it completely drained in one ten hour session last weekend. My calculated RoR according to my spread was less than 10%. I'm not sure I can handle the swings of this game and while I am happy for Yoshi, I think he just got incredibly lucky on top of aggressively wonging

-$60K in one day was less than 10% of his bank. Try losing 60% of your bank to variance and see how that affects you.

he was playing around 24 hrs a week and made $1.2 mill in 2 years. not bad.

I have no doubt this will be me if someone helps me. I can go through a 4 deck shoe with zero errors knowing every card played. I'm loyal and honest and have practiced for years training for this. I need a mentor and training. Although I have great memory when it comes to numbers there's a lot for me to learn still but, I need mentorship to further my skill from this point forward.

HI Colin, I'm from Australia. After watching your video and I visited Casino last night. Since card counting isn't working on continuous automatic shuffle(CAS) machine, and only the high tables starting from $50 have the shoe with 8 decks of cards. Without having a strong team. there's no way to beat casino. What do you think??

All of the standard BJ tables in Australia use the CAS. Having access to the higher rooms will mean having a large bankroll. If bankroll is an issue would you consider taking what ever bankroll you have and your skills (playing perfect blackjack strategy + card counting) to a south east asian country like Philippines, Cambodia or Vietnam where there are many casinos which do not have the CAS. Take a couple week holiday and see how you go, of all things you've funded your holiday :)
Card counting is becoming a thing of the past, like burning CDs and selling them.

I hear his story and then I think of how many hours I must have logged by now just to continue being in the red. I'm convinced I'm a terrible counter and casinos love me which is why they don't kick me out all that often. I love Blackjack but I hate the swings, they're brutal. I can't handle them financially or emotionally. God, if I have to spend one more day working for somebody else, I swear this story ends with me and a rope in the closet.
Maybe worth doing BJAs test out and verify? Also if the variance is too much financially never mind emotionally, then I guess you need to reassess your bankroll. If it's not enriching your life then maybe take a break and do something you enjoy for a while

If you're gonna do this full time you either need extreme luck like Yoshi and Colin here or you need like a good 50/60k to get on with it. I had $25k and still couldn't manage it. This is a hobby, anyone doing this full time is either lying, very lucky, and in the extremely rare cases, actually good enough to do it full time. I'm burnt out. I play a little hear and there but nothing like I used to. Waste of two years of my life.

That sucks man, if you are so burned out it’s definitely time to walk away. I agree that doing this full time is bad news, Colin could only mange it for two years. It’s possible your game wasn’t good enough, it’s possible you had horrible variance. But the important thing is knowing when to walk away. Yoshi later said that he doesn’t think anyone should go full time unless they have 200-300K saved up after he had a full time losing YEAR.

Cash in excess of $10,000 can be confiscated by law enforcement with no probable cause. Look up civil asset forfeiture.
I'm not certain that's why they do it but that's all I can think of.
Hey i found my local casino have a blackjack tables that everytime at the beginning of each game, the dealer will draw 1 card from the deck and place it to the graveyard (i call it graveyard lol). Is card counting still works?
Yes. That's called the "burn card." All casinos do that. Not a big deal at all.

Should you play 1 hand or 2 hands when the true count is high?
There's not a binary answer. It depends on your bet spread. You can use software (CVCX or our Bankroll Management App) to help you navigate bankroll management.
@@Blackjackapprenticeship There is an answer to that question. Nice plug for your Management App. The answer is Two. The reason is because you have the advantage and want to maximize your probability of obtaining two high cards together on ONE hand at least.
@@rcsebastian2865 there are times when you may want to stick to one hand. Maybe spreading to 2 hands increases risk too much (lower stakes problem), or sticking to 1 hand might be better for playing heads up. CVCX is gold
Question, once you started having a bigger bank roll, did you keep your money in a bank or did you prefer to have it in cash? I just ask because of tax returns etc. Having that money in your bank and having to report your income etc. because I feel like it would be better to keep it in cash. Thank you!

i listened to this whole thing while using the BJA perfect strategy drill sim. got through over 500 hands! if it's a grind, i'm already a pro. I specialize in grinding on games. over 350 hours in MGSV, over a thousand hours on final fantasy, grinding and building is just something my lizard brain loves to engage in. This is just the next game for me.

I also watched several more videos about the lifestyle and its clear all these dudes kinda have reservations about having gone all the way with it lol. I did manage to go to a few casinos (MN and NV) and noticed that the basic strategy definitely works...all the decisions are made and more often than not you're avoiding Ls and taking wins just sticking to the script.

All tables arouind me are 6 deck, dealer h17, double down on any hand, no late surrender, 3 to2 blackjack. Is this a good game to card count on or not worth it?
That's an average game, depending on the deck penetration.

how in the hell did get $800K in a year or so? He would have had all Positive TC shoes. Literally. Ithink he was just betting heaving on low TC's and getting lucky like every dam time
Yoshi was playing something like 80-100 hours/month at probably $400-$500/hour EV for 2 years. To find casinos that will give you table time at those stakes to the tune of 100 hours/month is a serious grind. No luck involved here, just sheer grind.
I'm in the casino about 5 to 7 hours a day which averages to 100 hours per month. I'm no where near $800k. I've been doing this for 5 years. Essentially, what I'm saying he would had to generated positive EV every session and no losses, or if he did lose it wasnt large enough to deplete profits
I've got at least 150 hours under my belt by now and I spent months building my bankroll only to have it completely drained in one ten hour session last weekend. My calculated RoR according to my spread was less than 10%.
I'm not sure I can handle the swings of this game and while I am happy for Yoshi, I think he just got incredibly lucky on top of aggressively wonging
