It says a lot that the guy who lived through THE WAR IN HEAVEN found the Tyranids scary enough for him to go back and say "stop everything, we've alerted the Horde"
I think it's kinda meant to be poetic. The necrons gave up their souls to become machines. The tyranid have no soul except the hive mind and they are purely biological. It's like a yin yang sorta thing
@@Lunch_Meat on top of that, it's also about the overarching goals of each species. The necrons (those who follow tsk at least) wish to return to their fleshy bodies, whereas the nids wanna consume all organic matter in the galaxy. Thus their goals as species are fundamentally opposite, enhancing the yin and yang dynamic.
The Silent King is one of the most somber, tragic characters in 40k. He believed he was ascending his people from an eternity of struggle and pain into what would should have been their own Golden Age. Instead, his people were stripped of their souls and had their consciousnesses forced into metal, unfeeling frames, most completely devoid of personality.
The only fraction leaders with a level of control on par with Szarek would probably be Aun-va and Asdrubael Vect. Also, one thing I love about Szarek is that he is just a guy. He has no inherent powers beyond just being a blinged-out Necron, yet he has assembled a loadout so comedically overpowered that he can solo a god.
That's not entirely true, the Silent King is quite literally BUILT DIFFERENT. The higher up you go in Necron nobility, the higher quality their construction is (gotta have commanders) not just physically but mentally as well. We're talking greater power cores, tougher necrodermis, enhanced chronosense, incredible processing power, the whole nine yards. And none have it better than the Silent King.
If we're going by the lore Szarekh would wipe the floor with pre-throne Big E. The Emperor was struggling with a shard of a C'tan meanwhile the Silent King soloed a whole C'tan and won.
I really like the idea of The Silent King. The Infinite and the Divine gives us the perspective of those near the top of Necron society, so I can only imagine what thoughts would go through the head of someone right at the top of the hierarchy. Naturally, that might be a bit of a trip. Careful attention is paid to make sure that we don't get to peek into the emperor's head, mostly for the sake of not spoiling the future of the setting, but mostly because someone at the top of a galaxy spanning empire probably has very alien thought patterns and the Emperor is already strange enough as it is. Aside from that, with Szarekh they have a bit more freedom, as unless we get a big canon change, Necrons are not going to become the rulers of the galaxy. I just hope it's a fun read, when it happens.
idk, personally i think it can be interesting to see a larger than life figure's internal thoughts. like it in age of sigmar when we finally get sigmar's internal thoughts and struggle revealed to us, that even sigmar, a literal god, is trying to believe in his old faith of ulric (despite ulric being 100% dead), showing that despite everything, sigmar is still human, trying to find something to believe in to help with the tough times.
It's very nice of you to ask, Arthur. Thank you. I really like the Silent King. I absolutely adore all of the Necrons, those lovely immortal-mechanical-space-mummies. But one of my favourite books is The Infinite and The Divine, so that may be a factor. And, by the Dead Gods, I won't be able to forget about the undertones from now on.
People talk about the Tyranids being some huge inescapable threat, but they’re really not. It’s simple: 1.) Trazyn steals a few billion biological organisms (he’s probably done this already tbh) and buries the stasis vaults across a number of different barren worlds. Populate the surface of those worlds with destroyers so you don’t have to worry about any errant life springing up. 2.) Wait until the ‘nids have devoured all available life in the galaxy (and neighboring galaxies) and moved on. Shouldn’t take very long, realistically. I mean, who’s going to stop them: the Imperium? 3.) Release the life and repopulate the galaxy! The sentient life forms will serve as excellent labor for this task, and perhaps even as biological hosts for the Necron. Everyone wins!
When I see orks fighting necrons with blue paint I assume they're deathskulls that tried to loot an entire tomb world and slapped blue paint on things to claim them.
Just wanna say man I really appreciate the way you dive deep into certain subjects when talking about characters in 40k. It's honestly super unique and it makes for great listening material while doing chores or at the gym. Keep up the good work!
The Silent King is my candidate for most important and 'best' character in 40k. If another is your favorite that's fine, we all have our favorites, but here's my reasoning: Without the Silent King, there would've been no war in heaven, no C'tan betrayal, no Krorks and Aeldari, Chaos would be a lot - ... less than it is now, there would likely not have been a Horus Heresy. Without the Silent King, there would be no 40k as we know it. As for best; Mr Bones explained it in his video, he is noble and tragic. And I love that.
The guy who tries his best to help, but the damn galaxy is such a mess it is hard enough to keep everything together. Saying something considering the chaos he dealt with, fought, and then claims the Nids are horrific when he lived through the war of souls that made the chaos gods exist.

I like the idea that the Silent King wants to talk, desperately so, but he downloaded a bad update and his voice box has been on the fritz now for ages. Damn you Windows 40,000!!! Also, I'd love for him to get enough Necrons together to start eating Hive Fleets for lunch!
He didn't go to another galaxy, he just left the Milky Way, then because the universe is so, so very tiny, he ran into the Tyranids like you would run into your neighbor at the grocery store in a town of a thousand people. HE MADE THE TYRANIDS!!! Hence why they have DNA and not something else to store genetic information. It's on the scale of TOS Spock being half human and half Vulcan. Only possible because Vulcan's having basically 1 for 1 human genetic code, 23 pairs of chromosomes and all. That and the Silent King just bumping into the Tyranids outside the Milky Way is statistically impossible.
… but srsly: that’s an interesting idea, but why would he lie about it? And why wouldn’t he send them in long before his own forces awoke? I think it makes more sense that the nids were created by the old ones, to purge the galaxy before some kind of grand return, or to close the door behind themselves before moving several galaxies away. If so, that increases the likelihood of the silent king encountering them if he was searching for lost tech.
@@nw42 The Old Ones kind of screwed-up with the Eldar, who ended up not really caring about the Old Ones. I don't know if they had a contingent plan if the Krorks became less intelligent and less controllable. The Tyranids haven't been confirmed to eat Necrons, or at least I haven't heard/read about it. So the Tyranids would just destroy all life in the galaxy, which the Old Ones loved, leaving the Necons with weapons powered by C'tan. Similar to how they beat the Old Ones 60M year ago. Fenris is said to have animals/monsters that may be Tyranids that lost connection to the hive mind. So SK could have used their DNA as a template for Tyranids. We know the Kroot can use other species DNA to improve themselves, so the Silent King could have used that, with the Tyranids being able to do the same. The T'au may also be SK constructs. When the Imperium found them, they suddenly were protected by a warp storm. We now know the Necrons can use their tech to contain the Warp, like the Eye of Terror, but they can also use the same tech to increase the Warp. The Ethereals are said to produce the same hormone to control minds like another species in the galaxy. So he could have used their DNA to make T'au controllable. As T'au have virtually no presence in the Warp because they don't have "big" souls, they're less susceptible to daemons using them as a gateway. Possibly making the T'au great candidates for Necrons to transfer their consciousnesses to.
Tyranids deserve to have a deathleaper novel. Would you mind covering one of the named Tyranids like old one eye or red terror that’d be a fun read/watch.
Man, it's almost impossible to overstate the damage having the necrons wake up on the wholes does to the setting. The necrons are, even in their depleted state, the strongest faction in the fluff. This is born out of the fact that, unlike the Eldar, the Necrons still have access to all the tools they used to win the War in Heaven the first go around. Basically, the only thing preventing the necrons from bending the entire galaxy over was the fact that most of them were still asleep. So ignoring the super weapon that Szarekh used to shatter the C’tan, what about him makes him above a Primarch? It’s not like he personally fought the C’tan using his own strength, he had a purpose built weapon for it. Have we seen him do anything that lends credence to this idea that he’s vastly above a Primarch? I’m not well versed in Necron lore and the only things I really know about him are the meeting with Dante and his dick measuring contest with Imhotek the Stormlord about who should rightfully be in control of the Necrons.
I'm slightly confused here... the Necrontyr went to the Old Ones, asked to be made immortal, threw a hissy-fit when the near-godlike beings refused to give them a power that could potentially allow them to challenge the Old Ones, and promptly got curbstomped. They then meet the C'tan, who give them the power to defeat the Old Ones at the cost of their souls, and then the Silent King manages to make a godslayer device to stick it to the C'tan... did this take place over millions of years for his science-fu to improve? If not, where did he get this deus-ex-machina gun from?
Yeah it took millions or possibly more because the War in Heaven was split into two distinct parts. The war between the Necrons and the C'tan vs the Old Ones, then the Necron uprising. As for the tech, the C'tan gave the Necrons the knowledge to make those weapons as they were initially used to to take out the Old Ones, as the Old Ones are basically gods. Turns out, they work pretty well agaisnt Star Gods too
It's like when DC or whatever comicbook company created Captain Marvel ( the SHAZAM! one), he was described as the Mightiest Mortal, which nerds brought up when it came to fights with Superman. He has to beat Sooperman, they'd cry out, spitting out bits of beef jerky. And so that happened, as stupid as that is. And years ago, when someone from GW created Zarek, well, there you go. Now we have an Emperor Class character fighting Astra Militarum??? That seems fair (sarcasm).
I don't really get why the "Silent King is as strong as a Primarch" thing is such a sticking point. I get it's a wargame where characters are also gamepieces, but The Silent King is a government official, he SHOULDN'T even be on the front line punching GeneCrafted SuperSoldiers, it's already an incredible feat to organize the Necron Courts to handle goals other than screwing over each other. It be like talking about WW2 and saying "General Marshall was competent enough, but can he punch out a Panzer Tank?"
I think Szarek does do it rather well, considering that he's just a regular Necron with the most overpowered loadout ever. Szarek isn't anywhere near Primarch tier, but the reality-warping testiclular torsion gun mounted on his throne is. The throne is clearly more ceremonial than practical, as if aiding lesser Phaerons in battle is just a political tradition to win the loyalty of his subjects or to boost morale. It's like giving a speech from a tank except its actually in battle, and its not like Szarek can actually die or lose contact with his command center. Distance from the front lines means nothing when you can teleport.
It’s called- Having the gahones to puch gene crafted super solders in the face. Szarekh may have been a cute little necron before, unable to hurt a fly in the time of flesh, but when he became a Necron he became THE Necron.
Agreed, he definitely has stuff that can take down the ten thousand, all the primarchs and big E himself, but he's not gonna solo them man to man, he's the leader of the most powerful race in the galaxy, not a fighter.
My child, when you live in a universe that includes demon princes and Ork warbosses, basically leaders who CAN punch out a tank, then yes, yes you want the biggest baddest "government official" on the block to lead your dudes.
I mean yeah he did kinda take on the C'tan but not by himself. He did it with the support of the great armies of the war in heaven and his generals. Its not like zarek rolled up to all the ctan and fought them all personally
Warning bad grammar and spelling mistakes probably - dyslexia is B*** In twice dead king 1st book (I think) he is described as scheming and amitosis ruler with energy of young youth. As much as making agreement he as well politicly tricked a good bunch to agree to join him in convert to robot bodies. What I found more interesting about him there are implications that he is ruling vassal kingdoms in other galaxies. He did not came here panicking, he came here back do to his obligations. Also him making deals with other races, like show with Blood Angles hints more of that more confusing part of war in haven where it seams Elder and Necron teamed up to defeat C'tan. And more likely by end of it there was peace treaty between both sides (It dose not make sense why Elder would left tom worlds alone if it was not true and Szarekh seams kind of person would be skilled diplomat to achieve it.

Turns out, they work pretty well agaisnt Star Gods too
Falcon? Is that you?
:> Thank you for the funny video!!
I love the quiet skeleton lord!
Ah yes. The Silent King. The embodiment of looking at the whole of 40k and going "Hmm...kind cringe. You're doing it wrong."
It’s called-
Having the gahones to puch gene crafted super solders in the face.
Szarekh may have been a cute little necron before, unable to hurt a fly in the time of flesh, but when he became a Necron he became THE Necron.
@@aidan-h3p whereas the the Big E even with his OP chair can barely talk to his own sons
I can't be the only one who'd like a Garviel Loken video? 👀
I hope i can be the voice of the silent king in an Amber King video
I mean yeah he did kinda take on the C'tan but not by himself. He did it with the support of the great armies of the war in heaven and his generals. Its not like zarek rolled up to all the ctan and fought them all personally
Thats the funny thing with Szarek, at base he's just a blinged-out Necron, but with his loadout he's absolutely overpowered.
Oh you sweet summer child.
Arthur (Bones) Morgan
If they were a faction, anyone could join. They are a race
Kinda crazy I got here within a minute. Never do that usually.
Finally, the true warhammer 40,000
Warning bad grammar and spelling mistakes probably - dyslexia is B***
In twice dead king 1st book (I think) he is described as scheming and amitosis ruler with energy of young youth.
More xenos content like this would be fire, even if I am a csm player through and through
