Definitely. I don't think the magic could be recreated again. Maybe it would have been ok, but it would never be as good as the original. Not every Christmas sequel can be Home Alone 2.

Honestly it’s weird Walter isn’t in the script for a movie about strained parental/child relationships. I’d honestly have cut out Falcon and had Buddy’s conversations regarding Suzie’s issues be between him and Walter
I thought the same exact thing! Especially since Falcon disappears from the script after Buddy becomes Brian, and isn’t relevant to the plot. That’d make way more sense to do if it was a cameo from the first movie. Plus, like you mentioned, thematically it’d make *way* more sense!

If Across The Spider-Verse didn't already exist, an equivalent of a Spider-Society not trusting Miles scenario would've been really interesting. A plot point where multiple, if not all, the Santas don't trust Buddy for being a human/elf hybrid instead of a pure elf could've been a brilliant concept.

Regardless of his strained relationship with Favreau I'm glad Farrell understood that he's only be doing a sequel purely out of greed & didn't want that.

Home alone has had 4 chances to try to make a 3rd good movie they have failed 4 times.. they could've given elf 2 a chance although I do agree it probably wouldn't have been near as good
One of the reasons Elf is a beloved holiday film is it is a well written single self-contained story. Studio executives wanted Elf 2 not because it was necessary. Even if Will Farrell agreed to reprise his role as Buddy and the other conflicts got resolved allowing the film to get made it would have been a cash grab flop that everyone involved would have regretted being a part of. Home Alone 2 Lost In New York is an inferior retread of the original that had to go out of its way to create another situation in which Kevin gets forgotten during the Christmas season. The original Home Alone was a perfect self-contained holiday story that was diminished by a weak sequel followed by several other disastrous attempts at turning it into a franchise. The same thing would have happened to Elf. We are very fortunate Elf 2 did not get made.
At this point- probably not until 2024. There's something I'm waiting on to finish the video, and when you see what it is, I'm sure you'll agree that it made the video worth the wait :)

Yeah, when I saw Elf, I wish they could make a sequel. I even had an imagine thought that Buddy, his father, and everyone, including his brother Michael, might go in an indoor waterpark, probably due to a huge blizzard hitting New York. It's sad, but it's for the best to have Elf starring. Will Ferrell become one of the funniest Christmas movies of all time.

This route is similar to the Pinocchio franchise. The first movie, The Adventures of Pinocchio was a 1996 film that starred Jonathan Taylor Thomas as the titular character and Martin Landau as a supporting role. Udo Kier plays as a villainous character in it but it didn’t do well at the box office leading to a direct-to-video sequel 3 years later named The New Adventures of Pinocchio. This time, Jonathan was nowhere to be spotted and really couldn’t participate in the production because he was a teenager who couldn’t play a young child at the time which led to Gabriel Thomson as the lead role. Martin and Udo came back for this but some of the people that played their characters from the first movie are replaced by new people. Ex: The original actor who played as Lampwick originally didn’t partake in this but instead was replaced by a new person. The first movie took place in Italy while the second one took place in Luxembourg which may explain some of the British accents some people had in the second film.
This movie works fantastic as just a stand-alone. The only good thing about that Sequel script is Coal Cringle. He sounds like an interesting villain and it would be cool to see him in claymation. The Suzie book sounded very depressing from my point of view!

On paper, the concept of moving your "fish out of water who's ripped out of fantasy and forced into reality" lead character from New York City to a more conservative suburb and having them deal with their kids growing up and distancing themselves feels like an easy direction to take a sequel, but I don't really think it was necessary for any reason except money in either example. Telling a complete story in a single movie is fine, and it probably was better for Elf's legacy as a Christmas movie staple in the long-run.
It's so funny how this movie didn't materialize almost solely because Favreau and Ferrell both had too much integrity 20 years ago, whereas now they've both separately made 5-10 completely soulless projects and would do almost anything for a paycheck. Wouldn't be surprised to hear this being reworked within the next few years.

A claymation Elf movie could be cool. Sorta like the TV special they did. It would be cool if they got Will to do the voice too. But i think it could work without Will.
Wow, this is a first! Girls to contrast against the weird kid in school that AREN'T trying to bully her mean girls style, they just, want to be friends and are a bit unfair on her quirks/culture. That's a very refreshing take that'd make this a not bad sequel imo!

How about as an animated movie? Might be interesting that way as well as keeping the actors separated through voice over roles. They can't argue if they are not in the same room
“Elf” is perfect the way it is. There’s no need to make it a franchise of an otherwise straightforward, Xmas classic and story. Though, it would be interesting to see what a fan film based on this Elf 2 script would have looked like if it were officially made.
I've heard about the sequel and Will's reluctance to do it. After watching this video and seeing how the story would unfold, I am really glad it didn't happen. It didn't really bring anything to the original, nor did it seem to have that special magic the first film had. Glad Will passed on this, and ELF is a standalone Christmas classic.
I’m glad Elf is a stand alone film, too me it’s iconic like The Santa Clause which I wish would of left it at one each film just kept getting progressively worse. I’d would hate to see Elf go down that same road
Tbh I hate to disagree with the other people in the comments, but this movie sounded really bad. It has a few good moments and ideas but overall feels like a cheap cheesy hallmark movie, missing every ounce of comedy and magic from the first one. Not to mention feels like a basic family movie with Christmas and Elf stuff as the D Plot of the movie.
Took me too long to get randomly recommended this channel. I use to read screenplays for "fun" back in the day.. (like 2010) 😂😩 Tarantino was always the best for obvious reasons. 👣 I love the idea of "what could have been" and what you're doing. Keep up the great work! 👍
The Elf story is a complete story, no need for a sequel, but I kinda liked the premise of the potential sequel script - just needed more Walter and Jodie, I agree with your points on its flaws Too bad Will and Jon didn’t get along :(
Koal's entire sequence sounds right outta the first with the oddness, the rest unfortunately sound really dour and rough on the Buddy character. Also nothing about his father or brother? Odd script but id be lying if not curious
The Koal stuff could have been the focus. Like imagine if Buddy writing the story about Koal leads to increased belief in him and allows him to be unleashed upon the world causing mischief

WOAH WOAH WOAH… HOLD IT… ANTI SANTA? Let me why I freaked out. Ok so my grandma had a lot of toys and play sets which (among other things) included a Barbie House, a Little North Pole, & a Little people Christmas Train. The Train and North Pole both had Santas, but one had green gloves and the other had purple. Basically, every Christmas Eve my family would get to open one present at my grandma’s house. To pass the time, me and my sister created this universe where a little Barbie doll went to the North Pole. In Year 2, Santa got captured by his evil twin (The one with purple gloves) and the Barbie and elves she met had to save him by riding in a flying bike ET style, and a reindeer. That’s why I freaked out so much.

As much as I think that Elf doesn't even need a sequel, there are some legitimately good ideas here, but overall there's just... too much going on. It hardly even feels like a real story and is trying to do way too much at once. Having multiple Santas is a neat concept and something I haven't seen many Christmas movies do, but then they also throw in a "father can't connect with his daughter because he embarrasses her too much" plot that feels really generic I'm sorry.
If I were to say anything, I feel like the movie would be very interesting and be quite good. But for a "Sequel" this just seems like "elf: a series of unfortunate events" rather than "Elf 2" and therefore would be a very bad sequel but a movie on its own would sound pretty nice and fun to watch.
That story never worked. But this new Elf 2 movie in production is gonna be the best Christmas film ever now along with another sequel getting produced as we are present. In Jesus Christs name we pray amen.

It's so funny how this movie didn't materialize almost solely because Favreau and Ferrell both had too much integrity 20 years ago, whereas now they've both separately made 5-10 completely soulless projects and would do almost anything for a paycheck. Wouldn't be surprised to hear this being reworked within the next few years.

Even if Will Ferrell returned to Star as Buddy and Jon Favreau returned as director the film wouldn’t have been as good as the original and it would’ve felt like a cash grab and it would’ve lacked the same magic as the original

I don’t think it was that bad tbh, I think it should involve his human family more and his daughter like hanging out with them more rather then buddy, and some other minor tweaks, maybe since Walters OG actor passed they could do one of those grandpa passed type things but I’m not sure lol

A claymation Elf movie could be cool. Sorta like the TV special they did. It would be cool if they got Will to do the voice too. But i think it could work without Will.

Wow, this is a first! Girls to contrast against the weird kid in school that AREN'T trying to bully her mean girls style, they just, want to be friends and are a bit unfair on her quirks/culture. That's a very refreshing take that'd make this a not bad sequel imo!

“Elf” is perfect the way it is. There’s no need to make it a franchise of an otherwise straightforward, Xmas classic and story. Though, it would be interesting to see what a fan film based on this Elf 2 script would have looked like if it were officially made.

I've heard about the sequel and Will's reluctance to do it. After watching this video and seeing how the story would unfold, I am really glad it didn't happen. It didn't really bring anything to the original, nor did it seem to have that special magic the first film had. Glad Will passed on this, and ELF is a standalone Christmas classic.
It would’ve been nice to see Walter and Susie’s bond. And her bond with Emily and her bond with Michael.

I’m glad Elf is a stand alone film, too me it’s iconic like The Santa Clause which I wish would of left it at one each film just kept getting progressively worse. I’d would hate to see Elf go down that same road

Tbh I hate to disagree with the other people in the comments, but this movie sounded really bad. It has a few good moments and ideas but overall feels like a cheap cheesy hallmark movie, missing every ounce of comedy and magic from the first one. Not to mention feels like a basic family movie with Christmas and Elf stuff as the D Plot of the movie.

The Elf story is a complete story, no need for a sequel, but I kinda liked the premise of the potential sequel script - just needed more Walter and Jodie, I agree with your points on its flaws

Should have done squeal around the Halloween time it would be funny to see how Buddy interacted with Halloween stuff.
Koal's entire sequence sounds right outta the first with the oddness, the rest unfortunately sound really dour and rough on the Buddy character.

Wow, I had absolutely no idea what a sequel would've been like. But I'll say that script doesn't sound too great. Elf is better off on its own. After all, not everything needs a sequel.

Honestly so glad this wasn’t made, it would’ve been pretty bad. Why do so many sequels have to be this way, it completely loses the charm to the first movie. Elf is a perfect movie by itself, it doesn’t need a sequel EVER!

Let me why I freaked out. Ok so my grandma had a lot of toys and play sets which (among other things) included a Barbie House, a Little North Pole, & a Little people Christmas Train. The Train and North Pole both had Santas, but one had green gloves and the other had purple. Basically, every Christmas Eve my family would get to open one present at my grandma’s house. To pass the time, me and my sister created this universe where a little Barbie doll went to the North Pole. In Year 2, Santa got captured by his evil twin (The one with purple gloves) and the Barbie and elves she met had to save him by riding in a flying bike ET style, and a reindeer. That’s why I freaked out so much.

I do like the summit of Santa’s idea.
As much as I think that Elf doesn't even need a sequel, there are some legitimately good ideas here, but overall there's just... too much going on. It hardly even feels like a real story and is trying to do way too much at once. Having multiple Santas is a neat concept and something I haven't seen many Christmas movies do, but then they also throw in a "father can't connect with his daughter because he embarrasses her too much" plot that feels really generic I'm sorry.
If I were to say anything, I feel like the movie would be very interesting and be quite good. But for a "Sequel" this just seems like "elf: a series of unfortunate events" rather than "Elf 2" and therefore would be a very bad sequel but a movie on its own would sound pretty nice and fun to watch.
Thank god they didn’t put this out and thank god that will didn’t just make the movie for a 30mil pay check.
