I've rejoined the farked up club recently due to kidney failure. All my plans, projects, work and study are now on hold as the most I can manage to do right now is get out of bed, make a cup of tea and go for a walk. It's somewhat confronting facing one's own mortality, but it does make one reevaluate things. As the Bible says the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.
    Go steady.

I have been close to death twice in the last 5 years bro. Cancer and heart disease. I came back from both. Give the body the best nutrition and as much professional help as you can afford and sometimes we can beat the odds stacked against us.

I’m a VIP member of the FUC.
We can only do our best. In my mind I can still do everything.
Physically I haven’t been able to hunt for five years. My second spine op stopped me instantly. I had to restructure every single movement i do.
The thing is we shouldn’t have to justify our lives to anyone. Especially someone that doesn’t know anything about my life 🍺🍺

Clay, don't woryy about sayings...they come and they go... our hearts desires are the imprtant factor, recently i was hunting with a good Bro he bagged 2 whitetails, we halled them out in the sled and just before the rain hit, it is humbling to realize I'm not 25 anymore, so I use that to look ahead and see the challenge, painful knees and sciatic nerve that can heal after is part of the equation take time to understand and realize the intention of our drive, Thanks!, Cheers Bro! Yes I'm farked up too....🤣

My name is Wanda and I'm an occasional sister in the Effed Up Club.
I think you have to have real humility to sign up as a member, so g'day to all you others out there.
I noticed that Maori people put huge emphasis on the importance of humility. Especially when choosing leaders. But more often when wisdom takes hold and mana sets in.
    I like their
word "pono", too, and their advocacy for being open.
I am a supporter of you, your talents, your Kiwi ways, your achievements and especially your service to humanity.
That includes your family, the boys without Dads that you take under your wing at a critical age, and the Men you support who are working through all kinds of hard challenges.
I hope our Sisters support all the good bastards in this great country.
I have written before that when war is declared it is not us who have to pick up rifles and kill, drop bombs or live with unspeakable trauma or guilt.
You have gone up in my estimation two more big notches, Brother.
Firstly for being open about being forced to leave behind most of a pig.
And secondly, for reading the reply from someone who staunchly believes in the rule about taking home what you kill.
You clearly have a conscience and have reflected on the sequents of events.
I had to do the same thing recently and it was related to a dog I had in my care. I felt bad about my mistake but an anxious young woman went on and on about it...!! Ad infinitum!
I can see how much you consider the things people say, and how much you
    own your own actions.
Different situations you describe get us all thinking.
But the main thing is all Brothers knowing they can make mistakes but are still awesome dudes and have the support and strength to keep on trying.
When faced with tricky situations it is paramount that people are safe.
An animal who kills native birds and damages the whenua is not good roaming in our bush, rivers or farmland.
When they dropped 1080 in the bush alongside the river by my land, all the dead animals were not retrieved.
Our environment and birdlife come before pests introduced by earlier members of
    a farked up elite.

That is so true what your wrote about Māori people put huge emphasis on the importance of humility. I helped a young man who was Māori by giving him a place to get clean and get back to his people and truth and 2 things I learned from him was the importance of good humor and humility. Dam we use to have some good belly laughs and our own stuff ups.

Actually I wasn't sure if people in the Bro check club have been inspired by tikanga... sometimes I avoid mentioning anything in te reo.
The other thing is that I was trying to think of what to write about smiling and laughing...I noticed your joyful end to your video as always so I am amazed you said that about you and that young guy. I think smiles and laughter are really important in life.

You did the best in the circumstances. A menace of a pig is gone. Your dog and yourself come first Clay. The trouble with younger folk is that they often don’t get the ramifications of older age. But they will lol. I would have left the whole pig abandoned and gone home. You’ve got Balls Damon Ward.

Good morning bro. We arent invincible thats for sure. our body's soon tell us when to take it easy or when we need to rethink something lol.
I'm only 42 an I'd struggle to carry a pig out anywhere, I've a hole in my heart, a bad back a bad shoulder a bad knee these make even my nationwide walk a challenge.
But I think won't age and injury etc comes a new adaptation and a new insight into how we can do things or maybe that we have to go just a little slower.
Bringing meat out is better then leaving an entire kill on the hill.
    Have an amazing week.

Morning Damon, there's a few of us in the club of worn out bods. I'm two years post double lung transplant and it's hunting with my dogs that I live for. If we own dogs we have a duty to run them and they are bred to hunt so we are exercising our and there right to do so. Nothing to be ashamed off leaving a bit of meat behind. We all have limits to what our bodies will allow us to do. Appreciate the fact your still able to get out and enjoy the day kill or no kill. Mental health issues will get us otherwise.

Unfortunately they held her and did bit of damage. So I had to stick her. I got first pig up to the clearing but I didn't have anything more in the tank and a fat sow rotted in the bush. But I know of a few hunters that only carry out jaws . Who kill pigs just for fun take a photo and leave them . But each to there own I guess.

It's coming around again. Deer are being seen in mobs of 50 and 60s. Around the south island.
Your health is the most important factor in that circumstance. Deer goat pigs and goat oh plus Wallaby numbers are getting out of hand. They are getting shot and left where they lay.

It comes through in your video that this was an obvious struggle for you, clearly physically, but more so mentally and emotionally. You have respect for the boar you hunt, and as such you spread the message to others to also be respectful of 'the hunt'. Killing for no reason, or not hauling the meat off the hill is the respect for the animal and the sport that all hunters should have. Your motto of "if you make the kill it comes off the hill" is valuable to veteran hunters and beginners alike. Be responsible, be respectful, and be appreciative of 'the hunt' and the animal. Your inability to not get the meat off the hill was not due to lack of effort. You didn't simply shoot an animal, take a picture, and drive off. You and the dogs hunt with the respect and appreciation that all hunters need to. Physical limitations, dog/human injuries, or simply human safety come before this motto. Your actions do not make your motto unimportant or less meaningful, if anything it shows even more why it is important. You made this video with sadness and distress clearly visible. You feel ashamed of what occurred, you feel saddened and that is exactly why your motto and the way you respect 'the hunt' is PERFECT. Brush it off mate, you're a role model.
I see it as this... A fisherman catching a different/rare fish species by a foul hook set releases the fish knowing it will likely die. It never feels good in the gut, it doesn't make the next cast easier knowing it could happen again, but you are mindful and respectful of safe fishing practices and adjust the best you can.
Bottom line, I really appreciate the honesty of the video, the heartfeltness of it, and hope that you brush it off and keep that motto alive. It is as important as the first day you uttered it and teaches respect for your craft.
Cheers mate and I hope your next hunt is a bigger one and closer to the truck or with a young buck with you to lug it!
-All the way from an island in Maine (U.S.A)

Right there with you. Dont knock yourself over events that happen like the boar. Keep wearing that life vest rig you have. Why yo ask...one of my best houndsman friends who i hunted decades with while fighting parkinsons disease till his early 60's finally give up hound hunting and took up fishing. Long story short he went out of boat and drown. Hunting was more forgiving on his illness but river took him fast. If i was you thinking on my comment you already read about pack and your vest i wonder if you had took time to juice up with some caffeine or electrolytes, food etc. coupled with de-boning would had a better outcome. I would like to measured your blood sugar i bet it was super low by time you started crashing in woods. I worked in forestry and had a vegan work for me in his 40's and he had to eat non stop to fuel his self through the day,he was a wildland firefighter most of time and in top shape and helped in timber dept when things got slow. Also if de-boning lets dogs fill their bellies too,i have done that before in past. Dont be hard on yourself.
