A good driver wouldn't need to run a red. I was a bus driver in South and central London and I never did it. How about if you've got nearly 100 people on your bus or even just one, don't drive like that.
Agreed. Traffic lights are programmed for cars. It's fair if a bus or HGV has to go through when it's just turned red, and fair that drivers have to wait for cyclists because they can't make it across a junction before the other light turns green if they've gone through just before amber.

@9:25 - This proves how dangerous Emergency Refuge Areas (ERAs) are (compared to traditional Hard Shoulders) on 'Smart' Motorways - Highways England are meant to change the gantry in the 1st lane to a 'red cross' (AKA: Primary Lane Closure) on that section, in order to allow any vehicles in the ERA safety to rejoin the carriageway or for emergency & tow vehicles to safely carry out work to broken down vehicles - Highways England however have changed their response rules now, where if a vehicle leaving an ERA is going to take more than 60 seconds, they won't close the lane for that section, hence making it dangerous for all concerned.
apparently if you use the sos phone Highways England will put a 'move over arrow' on the first lane, however that is classed as a curtesy and cars dont have to legally comply (unlike not obeying a red X). Its soo dangerous and needs to be changed back.
This was my clip. No move over or red X arrows led up to this ERA. Fortunately, there was not a vehicle to my right-hand side so I was able to move over.
@@morganpritchard5632 Glad you had space to move and were safe. Ive seen videos from recovery firms saying how dangerous it is not having a hard shoulder to build up speed on.
9:00 Ashish, from what I can see your car was in the blind spot caused by the other drivers front pillar and they did not bother to look around it or slow down for the junction. Still totally their fault, but it is possible to see these things coming if a car is approaching a junction at the same time you will be there and be prepared to slow down or brake if they are driving as badly as this one did.
@@Steve-wz2mu you are right, and this wasn't her fault at all. I am, suggesting to other drivers that by being aware of situations like this as they develop, you can be ready to react, giving you more time and space and less stress.
4:15 why the hell is a HGV trying to use the merge lane to pass cars. He forced the car to slam on giving him nowhere to go so the car has passed him to vent his anger. First the HGV has swerved at him and then the car was stupid enough to brake check.
4:15 that brake check was classic by the knob in the car. 1) the HGV drivers insurance will not pay out at it was an intentional brake check so he/she will have to pay for a rear end. 2) The clip shows him/her driving over the chevrons in a dangerous manner so he/she will be done for dangerous driving and will get points and a fine. All in all a bad day for the arse in the car in front Danny.
That's it, reading road position & angles can be really important, even if signals point to the opposite intent. We make lots of assumptions about what drivers will do, or should.
"Fiesta has to get in front" as it was perfectly entitled to do given it was a merge, the cammer could have just backed off, but no, needed the TH-cam content.
First clip: she ain't indicating, and her front wing has already had a smack, then jumps out to shout. If there's form, the pattern rests with you love!
6:07 beth , next time try and hold back from a hgv making a turn for that precise reason you found out the hard way with your video, it stands to reason the hgv will need more room to turn then a car,, so why put yourself in that position. Have a bit of patience and hold back.
Bit unfair, the HGV does straight line more than it should have. Beth could have driven defensively & mitigated the risk by not being alongside, but that HGV driver is the cause.
4:11 Danny, I don’t blame the reaction from the car. Yes, it was a stupid manoeuvre but you aimed for the car (which prompted their response) then you made no attempt to hit the brakes. You both need you licenses revoked.
5:47 - Oh Beth, you sped up to get right alongside the lorry and then slowed down for whatever reason - big hint: roundabouts are give way not stop junctions. Then for whatever other strange reason you put yourself alongside the lorry on the roundabout - second big hint: lorries tend to go over roundabouts. As if all that wan't enough you then decided to put yourself in the lorry driver's blind spot and tried to get his attention by flashing your lights - third big hint: if you can't see his mirrors then he can't see you. Some lorry drivers are even kind enough to print that little physics lesson on the back of their lorries.

@@GrahamAckrill Whataboutism, The HGV is a professional driver in charge of a vehicle that can have catastrophic results in a crash. He has more responsibility, Swerving at someone with a HGV is disgusting.
Especially as a pedestrian there would be looking to their right and would not expect a car to come from their right when crossing. Then it is also a mandatory keep left sign which the other driver as you said failed to observe.
9:25 - Morgan, why didn't you move into the middle lane to help the truck out a little. They are pulling out of a reservation with no merging lane and fast moving traffic, they need all the help they can get. Not a honk from your horn...
Looking at it retrospectively, I should have moved into lane two to help the driver. However, the driver needs to perform proper checks to ensure they are moving into a clear lane. I used my horn in this situation so the lorry driver knew I was there but by the time I used it, it was too late.
@@morganpritchard5632 Okay, and I agree this is one of the cases where you can follow all the rules of the road and still be put in an awkward situation. These refuge areas aren't ideal. they have no space for traffic re-entering the carriageway. I'm guessing the truck driver edged out to try and 'prompt' you into changing lanes - this isn't ideal, but in these cases, if they didn't drive like this, they might be waiting for a space for a long time. Out of interest if you look for the Mr GDB channel, he is currently having an issue with these refuges on smart motorways. I think the road design might be most at fault here.

As much as a bus driver should be reading the road to avoid such issues, running a just changed light at that speed is definitely safer than slamming 100+ passengers into the windscreen. Remember. Passengers aren't strapped down and are usually staring at their phones, so won't be aware of hard braking until their teeth come out their bums!
Was going to say the same: heavy vehicles simply can't stop safely, especially with passengers. A close change like that can catch anyone out.
A good driver wouldn't need to run a red. I was a bus driver in South and central London and I never did it. How about if you've got nearly 100 people on your bus or even just one, don't drive like that.
@@TheCatBilbo Is your boyfriend a bus driver?
Anticipation is a lost art
Agreed. Traffic lights are programmed for cars. It's fair if a bus or HGV has to go through when it's just turned red, and fair that drivers have to wait for cyclists because they can't make it across a junction before the other light turns green if they've gone through just before amber.
Slow hand clap for Bethany.
8:40 "SHERNEAL" Sop Shirly and Neal, do you have one of those 80 tinted banners across the top of your windscreen with your names on 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
10:55 for goodness sake wear a helmet. assuming this is a trike but same with quad bike you are no less vulnerable than a motorcyclist and should wear the same protection unless you have a death wish - especially with the current shocking standard of driving in this country
No legal requirement, so what's the issue. It's his life, if he doesn't understand the risk then so be it. This country has far too many rules. Live and let live I say.
11:10 hardly a model driver yourself, Michael…. Driving like your steering rack is made from jelly 😂
Yup, completely missed the turning lane
Just let it go..... instead of trying to take the toureg from behind

0:14 - Crumpled front already, so was obviously Mr Magoo driving.
@@xChuChux911Chu Yes, definitely very dangerous.
Surprised it took you so long to move over to be honest. I'd have moved as soon as I saw the lorry at that angle.
She did slow down and brake.

Moose's amazing 360° camera showing he _is_ the helmet!
2:06 Turn in the road Stephen obviously, slow down for half a second and carry on with your life 😂🎉

10:57 - Smart idea wearing your cap back-to-front so you don't get sunburn on your neck. 👍
And people used to ask me why do I make such a nervous passenger.
Holy shit at 9:43 that was an inch or two away from death.
Some are obvious well before they happen. @6:18 look at the angle of the car. It was very likely it would do exactly as it did.

6:07 beth , next time try and hold back from a hgv making a turn for that precise reason you found out the hard way with your video, it stands to reason the hgv will need more room to turn then a car,, so why put yourself in that position. Have a bit of patience and hold back.

Moose, just because other people act like complete helmets doesn't mean you shouldn't wear one too.

Bit unfair, the HGV does straight line more than it should have. Beth could have driven defensively & mitigated the risk by not being alongside, but that HGV driver is the cause.

@@ihaveliterallynoname but he was not alongside the lorry, the lorry driver never stayed in his lane which caused the collision
4:11 Danny, I don’t blame the reaction from the car. Yes, it was a stupid manoeuvre but you aimed for the car (which prompted their response) then you made no attempt to hit the brakes.
You both need you licenses revoked.
4:15 😂
5:47 - Oh Beth, you sped up to get right alongside the lorry and then slowed down for whatever reason - big hint: roundabouts are give way not stop junctions.
Then for whatever other strange reason you put yourself alongside the lorry on the roundabout - second big hint: lorries tend to go over roundabouts.
As if all that wan't enough you then decided to put yourself in the lorry driver's blind spot and tried to get his attention by flashing your lights - third big hint: if you can't see his mirrors then he can't see you. 3:24 car chase from the matrix (budget version)
I immediately thought of The Matrix as well, but I thought I would sound a bit goofy.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed that.
11:01 It's not about "wrong side of the road" - which can be ok, it's wrong side of the _bollard,_ which never is.
@8.55 - not sure what the issue is there. They both arrive at the junction at the same time.
The van was turning to fast into the corner they were taking, so they should have reduced their speed.
