- The good folks at Wizkids sent me over some of their Mythic Odysseys of Theros minis to unbox. They sent over a brick (8 boxes) and I unbox/review all of them. The paint jobs on some leave a little to be desired, but all in all it's a solid set. Also there's a giant crab, so I'm happy.

I'm ALWAYS excited to see new minis.... Love them ever since I started collecting them about 4-5 months ago!! Can't EVER get enough.
"2 headed Cerberus" really they included Orthrus but couldn't be bothered to use the name.
While Cerberus's number of heads can vary from as many as 100 and as few as 1 (some snake heads, some dog heads, and usually 3 dog heads) his brother Orthus (or Orthrus) is almost always depicted with only 2 dog heads, and was also a guardian hound, specifically of Geryon's cattle (the same ones Heracles had to deal with as his tenth labor).
I love that you cut out dead air, keep it up.
That dark-haired lady mini I believe is supposed to look like Xena. And it works.

There isn't a stat block for them but there is a section about emissaries in Theros. Basically they're Nyxborn creatures with two Nyx abilities and a larger then normal creatures. So the crab might just be a Nyxborn giant crap.
I dunno but those mandibles on Arasta look like the kind of balls a Rick & Morty character would have on their chin, if you ask me.

Makes me sad there aren't official stat blocks for the emissaries in the books.... maybe they are releasing some more material for it?
There isn't a stat block but there is a section about emissaries in Theros. Basically they're Nyxborn creatures with two Nyx abilities and a larger then normal creatures. So the crab might just be a Nyxborn giant crap.
Thought the same thing a while ago on pathfinder minis gallery that the paint jobs were trash. I don’t mind the translucent glitter effects but this wasn’t it. The lion king is my favorite I will buy that one and it’ll be my Catfolk legendary warrior.
Paint job looks mediocre, pretty disappointed, I was a big fan of the Eberron set
I have the collectors book of, tyranny of dragons, ebberon, theros and salt marsh
the models were okay but the paint job is real bleh, love the big crab the best lol
Aside from the medusa, I don't think I would seek out any of these minis. Maybe if I ran MOoT that would change...

These would all need a repaint, and quite a lot need to be modded for a better look
3:50 Yeah, the paint is dull at best. Needs some super easy highlights and shadow wash!
The only way they could have redeemed this set of not well painted mostly clear glitter plastic would have been to embed LEDs in them.

The Emissary of Erebos I can't find an stat block at all.
There are a very few really cool minis in this set but the overall paint jobs took a major step backwards from other recent sets. JMHO
The two-headed Cerberus disappointed me. As a fan of MTG in have to say that the card art for that creature gives it much more color, detail, and makes it look much bigger. I think it should have been a large with some shades of brown mixed in.

Social distancing has really made the minis aspect of this game less exciting. Some of these look cool though.
I'm not too concerned with paint jobs as (a) I use the "three-foot rule" and these look pretty decent three feet away, (b) at least I don't have bare plastic minis on the table, which is just embarassing, and (c) if I really need to, I can give them a wash or, if necessary, repaint them myself.
My biggest problem with this set is that, like Guildmaster's Guide to Ravnica, it is connected to a MTG card release, which I don't play. As a result, some of the figures are labeled for MTG familiarity, which makes it tough to keep track. That being said, some of the minis will go into the "counts as" pile until I can figure out who or what they are. (Is it JUST a Giant Crab or something more?)
If the paint job is unsatisfactory, is it possible to just clean them with acetone, and have a good quality mini left, or will it harm the plastic?
There must have been an amazing sale on clear sparkly resin. This is for sure a pass for me.
i think youre a little harsh on prepainted minis, you get what you pay for
It's them painting thier miniatures that turned me away from wizkids miniatures. Being a special set it is a shame they dont 1 use a sturdyier plastic and 2 let us paint them how we want them.
You can always paint over it, my friend does that all the time.
@@Lurklen Yes but if you are going professional painting, you have to decide dark or bright colors based on the prime. I am not saying it is a bad option, but the money you pay it should be an option painted or unpainted.
@@wolfjarlgrbane5771 I think for the money you pay it should be painted well, if they were unpainted they should be cheaper. But it's a solution that can work alright.
Sure if you're wanting a prof paint job you have to make those choices, but if you like painting that much I think there are better quality minis anyways. The sculpt on these has never been that great (though some times it unexpectedly is? And that mini will really pop compared to the others.) and they're unpainted lines seem to use better materials anyways (the prepainted ones are often a little gumby). I think the reality is what you(we) want is higher quality, but what they're selling is convenience.
@@Lurklen Not complaining mind you, I had the first line of Mage Knight but they were stolen. Some are awesome the reaper on nightmare and such but humanoids and weapons that were pole or large were off. I want to get the Wheelchair serries as it gives to charity, and I hope to hear that they considered my idea of two npc kids in wheelchairs with a guardian Wolf/Tiger to help thier big brother/sister. It will be a challenge to paint and also impliment. Players may just meet them in different towns or play one.
Can you immagine a Dwarven Berserker, rolling full bore from a hill at enemies full speed axes ready flaming torch in the back. What monster would not run or player cringe, lol. Stops barely infront of party. "What are you on about, I came to warn you suspicious creatures are asking about you ... did one of you all get scared of little ol me Ha Ha Ha Ha! Your all a funny set of brave adventurers."
Is it just me that really dislikes the bendy material they use for their minis? I really wish they were made of something more robust
Not a fan of the "nyx" either. I feel like 90% of the monsters in Theros are completely unusable and don't really fit a Greek/Roman mythology campaign.
I was a fan of the Ravnica minis but I'm skipping these.
Safe to say that he didnt like any of These i mean this is just an ongoing collection of complains
