I have the short sleeve version of this and love it so much. Wears great alone or with my IH Wabash vest. It is a big shirt which was weird for me with Japanese clothing lol. Usually the fits are less than the measurements chart. I could've went with a 42 with this and my normal J size is 46.
The shirt looks extremely similar with my 30s-40s vintage (most likely by BIG YANK) chambray shirt in terms of the cat eye buttons, the popping depth on the sides, then shapes of disproportionate pockets. I've been a fan of your videos, nice work!
Similar experience with Studio D’Artisan. I have their 14oz denim work shirt and went for a 42 size. A bit roomy in the chest and length but i don’t mind too much. The sizing on the chart also suggested that the 40 measurements would have been slightly small in the shoulder width, chest a bit and sleeve length so went up a size for the 42 and since it’s denim and thicker fabric, etc. Again, different fabric to the chambray you have here but feel the fit is similar. I think it’s okay to stay with the 42, honestly though, the fabric will soften as you break it in and hopefully even shrink a bit as you wash.
As a 'relaxed fit' the shirt looks about spot on. My personal gripe is when shirts like this are too long and extended too far below my waist/hips. Again yours looks spot on. There has certainly been a move towards a more relaxed fit over the past couple of years. The oversized trousers and shirts that my 17 year old son is wearing are about as far removed from the slim/fitted look as you could possibly get!!!
It depends on how you want it to fit Devon. If you want true workmen then your looser fit in spot on. If you wanted a more fit cut then go with the 40. There is no wrong answer here imo. I myself usually stay true to size (I have a bunch of Momotaro work shirts like this). I myself like a tight fit and use mine as shirts alone. No undershirt. If I wanted a shirt under I’d size up one.

Try tucking the shirt in and pairing it with a nice veg tanned belt. I think that would look really flattering while remaining a relaxed style.

Looking forward to the Barker Boot review 👍👍
Beautiful shirt mate! Great value as well.
The fit looks good, I especially like it worn open with the white T underneath.
Thanks, that will be the autumn look!

Thanks for the feedback, I would prefer a little more fitted but will keep it in circulation for the autumn!
Order me one
Gonna get the raw version next
The fit seems fine. You are definitely closer to 42 than 40.
Thanks I think so too
Good shirt to wear to the pub and down some pints 🍺
Good idea!
Looks a little too large to me
Thanks, I would like a touch smaller, not sure if "40" would work though
agree with this. the arms look like there is quite a bit of loose material? and quite a bit of loose material around the shoulders?
