As a Steelers fan, I hate having to deal with crap like this! I'm not from Pittsburgh. I adopted the team when I was 10 yrs old in the 70's and they were winning Super Bowls. Since then, they have done many things that made me proud to be a fan...The Rooney Rule...during the crack down on drugs they had a fair, but stern hand when needed both cutting players or giving players time to recover...They've had many high character players on and off the field... Then they also had jackasses getting in fights/shot in clubs...brandishing guns themselves ending in jail...sexual harassment...and the latest, domestic violence. Some of the bad, and good, were star players...some not...some days I just don't know about it all. Steelers, or simply the NFL or pro sports in general. I hate gambling and think it is poison to ones character. I watch sports for the "good" it can inspire in others and the drama of good competition on the field. I do think that, overall, the Rooney Family handles their franchise above the line compared to most, but that gap feels like it's getting more narrow with each passing year. The day I can't respect the teams I watch is the day I stop watching...I haven't watched the NBA since the year 2000 for this very reason...don't make me add the NFL to that list.
I agree with Florio, talent will get you a second chance. This is just another one of many examples, DeShaun being the biggest one. That's why I always say Kaepernick just wasn't talented enough. Really kills that whole martyr thing.
Billionaires do, say, and want what want. In this case, the Steelers are giving him a pass because they feel they need this guy to help their team win. I bet the owner or GM would not have signed this player if they knew the victim ?
This isn’t a new thing for the Steelers to go through. Big ben Antonio brown . Just to name a few great football players with less than stellar reputations
Given the NFL looked the other way on Tyreek Hill. If Cam Sutton sits out all year and comes back next year, he’ll still have to serve a lengthy suspension. So, this gets the suspension out of the way before he turns 30. The Steelers schedule is an outright assault on the franchise by the league office. If it’s a 9-game suspension, Cam Sutton would still be available for all 6 AFC North games, including a difficult 3 game stretch in 11 days in December. Cam will not take up a roster spot during suspension. So, the league has actually incentivized the Steelers to carry a player on suspension. So, it becomes the Steelers retaliation for their schedule.
Who does Florio think he is? Yes Sutton did something terrible, but does that mean he has to be cancelled, he forfeited his life basically? It's between Sutton, his wife, the authorities and how the NFL wants to deal with it. Who's Florio to say that Sutton shouldn't have a second chance, a way to make amends?
We don’t even know if he did anything at all yet. Judging by how the police have handled this so far? They certainly don’t believe he’s done what Florio idiotically read as though it were fact. That was the statement Sutton’s wife gave the police. If the cops and district attorney thought for a single second that was what happened? He’d still be facing a felony charge. Cops don’t drop a felony to the equivalent to a speeding ticket if they think a felony can stick and you don’t get beat that bad without evidence. I’m betting it’s dropped entirely after completion of an anger management course. It’s pretty standard when they think it could be a false allegation as it protects the accuser from being charged with filing a false report (just in case they did tell the truth) and it protects the accused by having it dismissed entirely. Florio is a moron.
The irony is Cam Sutton was absolutely horrible as their starting CB for the Lions last season... My guess is he won't make the team regardless of off the field issues, his play stinks
LOLLL according to NFL Arrests, in the past year the top teams for arrests are 1. New Orleans 2. Las Vegas 3. Buffalo 4. Jacksonville 5. Kansas City Steelers don't even crack the Top 10. In the past five years the Steelers are barely inside the Top 10 at #9. In the past 24 years Steelers rank #16. Minnesota ranks #1 with Denver, Cinci, Jacksonville, Kansas City and Cleveland all ahead of them. But don't let facts get in the way of a good narrative. Did you feel the same about Buffalo giving like $200 million to Von Miller the thug? How about Miami giving that to Tyreek?
I know what kind of corner Sutton is and where he played in the Steelers secondary. The Lions gave him $11 million a year for 3 years, which is decent, but only half of what the top corner in the NFL makes. The Lions signed Mosley on the cheap because of the ACL injury. If he had been healthy, he would have commanded around the same money as Cam. Like I said, the Lions intent was for them to compete for the starting jobs when Mosley became healthy, but that didn't happen. From watching Mosley in San Fran, he was at the time a better CB than Sutton. He had better ball hawking skills, covered stickier, and was a better tackler from what the film showed. The Lions want iron sharpening iron under this regime, it didn't happen in this case. That's why Sutton won CB1 in 2023.
As a Steelers fan, as a player cam Sutton is a good player. That said, his personal life is his personal business. But Beating up a woman/baby mama is pathetic! That an immediate arrest warrant was issued means they took it seriously. That the charges were reduced to a parking ticket level fine and he went home two hours after turning himself into police? Do they actually prosecute false reports in Europe? Because they don’t here.
Im a life long Steeler fan and half my family lives is western PA. I can tell you since the day Cam Sutton walked in the the facility he has been nothing short of a high character human. He always went out of his way to sign and interact with kids, he has been involved in numerous philanthropic work without seeking the recognition and was known around Pittsburgh as a great guy. Look Pittsburgh isn’t like most NFL cities, it’s small and it’s very common to see a Steeler player. Hell you can go to the park and play pickle ball with TJ or Minkah on a random day in spring. My point is- the city feels very connected to these guys. If a guy is an asshole, it doesn’t take long. The organization has always put as much, if not more time into vetting draft prospects, not only as athletes but as human beings, than any other franchise in the league. Building the roster around high character guys who are very talented athletes is the #1 priority for the Rooney family. Omar Kahn may still be a new GM but he’s been working with the franchise for 20+ years. When Tomlin, Kahn or any of the assistants go to pro days, they spend more time talking with none football staff about player X, Y, Z’s character. They’ll ask the cafeteria staff if he says please/thank you, they’ll ask professors and athletic advisors about his attitude and attendance. I say all that to say this- Cam Sutton was known as a high character human when they drafted him and he’s always represented himself as a good a really great dude during his time in Pittsburgh and a leader in the locker room. Rooney, Kahn and Tomlin know the kind of man Sutton is. They wouldn’t have brought him back if that affidavit is true. They definitely wouldn’t have signed him to a 1 year deal if they were playing “the long game” to only get 5-6 games out of him as Simms pointed out. The Rooney family has their own private investigators to dig into matters like this. Khan and Tomlin have been in close contact with Sutton since before the media got ahold of this story. Those are pretty damn serious allegations and absolutely disgusting if true. Yet they were lowered to a misdemeanor… Khan and Tomlin have been in close contact with Cam since the start of all this. They brought him into the facility 2 weeks before the draft. Don’t you think it’s possible they signed him because they probably know a lot more than these 2 woke pandering idiots? There are several other quality free agents they could have signed to add depth/talent to their CB room. I mean Steven Nelson is a former Steeler too. If these allegations were true, they would know and they wouldn’t sign a guy at a position of need if a lengthy suspension was coming. What ever tf happened to due process and innocent before proven guilty? It would be different if this was the 2nd or 3rd he was accused of this or if he had dozens of women speaking out, like Watson. But nobody has ever even accused him of being impolite much less a violent woman beater. Look if it turns out all of that is true then I agree, they should have never signed him. I have an older sister who basically raised me and I love her more than anyone on this earth. A man doesn’t hit women, traumatize children. I will be just as offended if they signed him knowing this is true and trust me, they know the truth. And they wouldn’t invite a media circus and drama for a whole season if it was true and only get 4-6 games out the guy. The franchise specifically tries to avoid guys like that and anyone who brings negative attention and drama into the locker room. Again they clearly know what we don’t.
Purely from a football standpoint, I see this as a huge win for Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh had a big hole at slot CB and Cam has been a star slot and outside CB his whole career in Pitt. To those who bring up his bad year in Detroit, it was because Detroit tried to play Sutton as a #1 CB when every Steelers fan knew he was never CB1 material but a great CB2 or CB3 (which is what he was in Pittsburgh) this deal is similar to what we saw Baltimore do last year in signing Clowney to a 1 year deal in August to join a great defense or what Pittsburgh did last year signing Kwon Alexander to a 1 year deal in July to an already good defense. From a pure football perspective, this is an amazing move for Pittsburgh that bolsters their defense even better by fixing the only hole they had on the defensive side of the ball.
I think the Detroit Lions signed Emanuel Mosley in 2023 free agency to be their CB1 through competition in camp when he returned healthy from his ACL. He then suffered a separate leg injury before camp that set him back. Then he got onto the field and suffered the ACL to his other knee. Sutton was forced into CB1 action for the Lions because of those setbacks. Sutton started off the year pretty strong but suffered a toe injury midseason and never was the same. He got torched at the end of the year plus playoffs. I'm glad the Lions moved on from Sutton. He was in the building, basically hiding, said nothing for weeks, and when the news reports came out, he fled from Allen Park. Not a standup guy the Lions are looking for. Lions are in a much better position now with the acquisitions of CB's Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson during free agency, they are an upgrade from Cam. The drafting of CB's Arnold in round 1 and Rakestraw in round 2 are most welcome to their DB room and the competition will only get better, plus E-Man will be healthy. Dorsey and Vildore will provide the much-needed depth at the position. I hope Cam can get it together in Pittsburgh. He won't be playing for a while.
@@artmeddaugh6669 I think the lions and Pittsburgh both got upgrades to their CB rooms. I think the lions always intended on using Sutton as their CB1 given the amount of money they gave to Sutton compared to Emmanuel. But Sutton is not a #1 outside CB. He’s a #1 slot CB or a #2/#3 outside CB. Now Sutton comes to Pittsburgh to be the #1 slot CB which is what he was most of his career in Pittsburgh, but this time he has better starting outside CBs to lineup next to in JPJ and Donte Jackson. Meanwhile the lions trade for CB Carlton Davis, drafted CB Terrion Arnold, and draft CB Ennis Rakestraw. So the Detroit upgraded their CB room with those 3 starters and Pittsburgh upgraded their CB room by adding 2 starters CB Cam Sutton and CB Donte Jackson to join rising star CB JPJ.

This is embarrassing…i guess the Steelers front office is okay with domestic abuse? What a bad look for the team and city. First Ben, now this. Ugh.
Mush mouths stop. None of us were there. Sure she’d be singing if it’s that real💯

District attorneys don’t decline to prosecute a domestic violence felony lightly.
That an immediate arrest warrant was issued means they took it seriously. That the charges were reduced to a parking ticket level fine and he went home two hours after turning himself into police? It hints that he had likely had something they believed was more concrete than what his spouse had. Messages admitting to lying, recording of the incident, proof he wasn’t in the state at the time… something pretty convincing.

BS. He should be suspended no pay.
Ben should have to
Purely from a football standpoint, I see this as a huge win for Pittsburgh.
How many of your coworkers probably do worse at home with their families? Not saying it’s right but if someone hires him then oh well.
