I only mentioned dementia when you asked about my experience with mental illness. The disease I spent most of my time discussing was schizophrenia, which correlates with excess dopamine in the brain. Schizophrenics do not appear to have any structural brain damage, so it appears that schizophrenia is at least in large part brought about by a chemical imbalance. It, thus, is also a "physiological" problem. How do you differentiate mental problems from physical ones when it seems that all or

I want to add something my doc told me in response to my concerns about takeing a mood stabalizer: He said " People tend to give way too much credit to medications and what they can do. I'm not talking about a type I diabetic or a case of pneumonia. But you notice that the majority of ads aren't addressing issues like that. They're addressing things like depression, insomnia, fatigue, gas, etc. Again, many times the above things do require treatment but in so many cases they could be avoided or mitigated with more sleep, exercise, less stress, and healthier food.

He's right about exercise and depression. I've noticed it in my own habits. Also I read that the physical cause of depression is a lack of neuron activity in the brain. It was in an article that proposed magnetism as a possible way of stimulating regions of the brain to start firing. However, exercise does the job even better as long as you're willing to get off your ass.

You see this is why in the UK, the National institute for clinical excellence (NICE) was a good thing, they were a more impartial board who decided whether a drug was actually statistically significant and decided whether to invest money in it. Many people hated it though because it blocked the sale of cancer drugs that showed minimal benefit and now the government wants to make the doctors in charge of what drugs to use. We just became a little more Americanised, and i hate it.

I see two psychiatrist one for my 6 year old daughter who has an anxiety disorder and ADHD. He not only doesn't feel it's right to prescribe anything to her, but feels that time and continual therapy will help her. I also see a psychiatrist myself, he has not 'diagnosed' me with anything, nor suggested meds. Sometimes a psychiatrist simply offers help and counseling.

Pain Killers,They only mask the pain for a few hours until you need more. Chiropractors treat the Injured region of the Spine. Yes there are certain injuries which require surgery. However Chiropractors can treat most spinal injuries better than Traditional Doctors. I know one Chiropractor who is a Board Certified Physician & can preform surgery.

I was later to discover that ALL those foundations share board members with major Pharma companies. very sad.

Agreed. I don't know the exact number but it's something like 80% (probably more) of kids over 5 are on some kind of ADD or ADHD medication. I am one of them. ADD used to be called boredom. When a kid got bad grade, the best medication was a foot in the ass from dad and a tongue lashing from mom. And that usually worked pretty well. If a kid is bored in class, then the parents need to help school him/her at home or hire a tutor. Pills are just unatural.

That the consensus among nutritionists, naturopaths & many doctors is that we should eat 5-6 meals a day doesn't mean that is what most of us do
Our society's stucture from work to school to week-end living is built around 3 meals a day and the vast majority of adults & children eat this way
Why diabetes is increasing is not related to the thought that we should eat 5-6 meals per day
Until we do independent clinical research into rising diabetes, we simply won't know the cause
