As others have said Merino wool has excellent wicking properties. It's a favourite for many hill walkers in Scotland, surely one of the best tests for it 🤣

You should try just a thinner coat and a couple hoodies underneath, that's what I do. 3 hoodies, 1 coat, 1 hat, and a balaclava. Gloves as well😊

Wool shouldn't be a base layer it doesn't wick moisture off ur skin, it may smell better when sweating in tho
