I loved the design of the world but hated how tedious travel felt.
I am great with directions but never was able to get an understanding of where anything was in Hogwarts because the design/layout didn’t make much sense… and i got tired of how 95% of my time inside Hogwarts was spent running up or down stairs… you run up hundreds of stairs go down a hallway, that leads you to more stairs, then at the top of those stairs you climb a spiral staircase to the top of a tower.
I really wish that you had the options to run everywhere or could fast travel (outside of the floo specific locations).
The Hogwarts valley and regions were really cool but apart from farming XP and a few storylines it felt like most of that area was pointless.
Every treasure chest was a letdown - I rarely got any decent items even when you had to really work and problem solve to get to a chest. But like you pointed out - gear was pointless and money was unnecessary.
I had high expectations for this game and it only delivered visually in my opinion.
I was hoping for a morality aspect and friendships where you could pick and choose the characters you went on missions with or got close to. As it was, we completed side quests with other students and then never saw them again. I would have liked a “your choices matter - there is a public perception morality meter and a private morality meter for when you’re avada kedavra’ing poachers and spiders where your teachers and friends can’t see you. That way you could have a “nice to people but practices dark magic” player or a “high morality nice to people and doesn’t practice dark magic” or “an a-hole that practices dark magic and gets into trouble a lot”
Seems like the game just wasn’t ready to release.
ALSO - last comment, sorry, but there should have been SOME type of MMO game mode. The game is perfectly set up with interacting online - dueling, running around the countryside, selling potions and ingredients to other “students” - it had a lot of potential there and just gave us nothing.

All of this is very on point. I didn't like how free we were. I didn't feel like a student at Hogwarts. The "classes" were mostly cutscene montages and then I could run around all I wanted, wherever I wanted, with no consequences? After the first mission in the faculty wing, I'm just free to roam there as I please!?

Exploring the castle was very fun and exploring without the broom was incredibly fun.
Then you get the broom & the same mini-game X infinity, and the game is essentially over.
So, the first 7 hours = fun.

i checked the online reviews and they're all over the map, IGN 9/10, Wired 1/10, a ton of 1/5 from the audience. it's not rare to see players pan a game & review sites cash their checks and give them glowing reviews, but this one is hilariously ripped & praised depending on the review site.

      It's definitely a weird one.

Only because it is a game with Harry Potter trademark.

    The loading screens are horrendous
Travel is tedious and I don't want to go explore all the land outside of Hogwarts necessarily some of it fine but overall not interested.
My biggest irritation point is that we never get a proper resolution to Sebastian's Quest. What happens to Anne?
Also why do we have a tedious mini game for every doorway unlock switch in the movies and books is a very simple spell but when we brew potions is this we put it in there set it and forget it.
I'm also really disappointed with the fact that at least on the switch there's very little interaction to be had with any of the other students what I wouldn't give to have them react to me casting a spell on them what a huge missed opportunity forgiving a Hufflepuff suit and a jiggly legs jinx. And along those lines why is there no morality system?
Along with a morality system why isn't there an option to earn points and lose points for your house?
Why can't I duel another real person by connecting online? Why don't we get to talk to isadora's portrait and hear her side of the story?
This is some of the many issues I have with this game these are the most glaring like why isn't any of this stuff a thing?
Would love to see all those things fixed an added as well as maybe have an online game or I can connect my game to a friend's game and we can play it together and each of us gets a different story based on our house or we can do missions together
Also, do the enemies die when you beat them? If so, how is avada kadavra bad?
Another missed opportunity is they have zonko's shop in hogsmeade but you can't buy anything there. When to be great to buy some jokes from zankos and then deploy them in Hogwarts and have the students react to it?
It had had a lot of potential and set up some cool stuff but it's really not consistent on its delivery

2 moments stand out for me wen I played this. One was opening up the map and zooming out and being so excited by the HUGE map. The second was wen I finished the main story and realized that the bottom HALF of the map would be used for all of 5 minutes

Yeah, I went exploring down there pretty early from random exploring and did some of the side stuff. It is an underused area for sure!

It is just really hard to make a game based on a school I'm afraid

I mean, Persona's time management system that includes regularly attending school and Trails of Cold Steel being about people who live at a school for technically-not-magic-but-essentially-magic seem like they would be a good template for the Wizarding World setting.

This game really shows me how creatively bankrupt the aaa developers are today, so they rely on quantity, which means yet another ubisoft-esque bloated open world game. They had wizarding world IP, and chose to make AC ripoff instead. Great 🤣

Sorry it wasn't better than you had hoped, especially given your love of the IP. Maybe y'all can pick up the Lego HP games to play together for some silly fun.

There are some authors-and especially philosophers-whose work, I swear, gets promoted for no other virtue than its difficulty to read. People like the satisfaction of having conquered something, well, hard. We've established a demand; the market provides the supply.
The first time I encountered this effect in a video game, I cursed the stars. Go back: my first love was the LoZ on NES. Lets review the weapon select procedure: _Start→D-pad to select item→Start._ A paragon of elegance and simplicity!
The game that caused me to realize what was happening? _Oblivion._ It was beautiful, but the menus were deliberately, unnecessarily, difficult. All of it was a contrivance; the entire game was designed to provide the satisfaction of achievement-for doing absolutely nothing! By the time BOTW rolled around only to be lauded for its complete train-wreck of a menu system/item select, I realized that the cultural transition from utility to cheap reward was complete.
The only skill required to play most modern mass-appeal games is patience; that is, the patience to endure learning how to play something entirely tedious, un-fun, and counterintuitive.
I've been playing _Mario Wonder._ It's a simple delight.

I need to get Mario Wonder. I have been slowly coming to the same realization as you. Somewhere along the way developers decided that adding unnecessary layers was better for players and it seems that the vocal majority agree. I see it as little more than a time suck so the player can feel like they got their money's worth on a cost/time analysis.

@@CheveeDodd Yep. Another side of the problem is map size. After a recent run-though of some of the more recent _FarCry_ games, despite their vastness, I was left feeling as though their world was empty.
When playing _Psychonauts 2_ the other day, it hit me. While this one's world is much smaller, it's also much more dense and vibrant. It has a hand-drawn feel, as though every object was sculpted by a person. Comparing this feeling to FarCry's endless, technically-stunning, and procedurally-generated woods, Psychonauts' environment feels way more alive, more interesting, more like a real game-place.
From the point-of-view of most consumers though, small doses of quality are still unimpressive.
By the way, where is this game channel of yours?

It was a little flat. Something about the spirit of was stale. But I respect their hard work and effort. That's a hard port to achieve for switch. Bought witcher 3 on switch as a back up, and to my surprise, it blew me away more than any game other than BOTW. Witcher 3 is sexy, good graphics for switch, deep, detailed oriented and the characters are so crazy and interesting. Like the whole place you can like smell the stench etc.

I agree. The Witcher was astonishing. It's so rare for 3rd party games to hit that level on Nintendo hardware.
