  • Let’s take a closer look at the Young 27 in this boat review from the 2020 season of Florida Sportsman Best Boat. Young Boats is a custom shop that only builds boats to order- dealing directly with the buyer for a complete custom build experience. The Young 27 is a prime example of how you can build a boat in multiple configurations, each with its own personality.
On this version of the 27 the open cockpit provides plenty of room to manage an offshore spread while featuring a closed gunwale design with three live wells spanning the width of the transom- one in each corner at 25-gallons each, with a larger 40-gallon release well in the center. A pair of large insulated fish holds to port and starboard are located below deck and a center positioned access point into the bilge includes a lift out storage liner that reveals easy access to pumps and fittings for maintenance. A tackle storage and rigging station occupies the rear of the helm seating station to complete the workspace.
This model included a full sized hard-top that provided abundant shade and a secondary observation platform. Access to the upper level is easy up a rear positioned ladder that eliminates the need to snake your way through a hatch in the hardtop deck. A cool addition to the top is a recessed pocket- molded into the front to accommodate a curved Lumitec Razor light bar.
The helm on the Young 27 was equipped with a pair of Simrad units in an easily viewable recessed face. The electronics display included a lockable and removable door panel that keeps electronics out of sight when not in use and stores away neatly while underway. The console interior also provides plenty of room for dry storage and a marine head. Forward seating offers a place for your guests to relax and creates additional dry storage within its interior.
A noteworthy fact about the Young 27 is that despite an advertised draft of 17-inches- I’ve personally had these boats in water seeming impossibly shallow and was still able to run on motor without disturbing the bottom. While it may be 17- inches under the boat the 27 is still capable of navigating carefully in this depth which is handy more often than you think should you find yourself fishing inshore.

    About the Show
What’s the Best Boat For You? Based on what you’re fishing for hosts, Rick Ryals, Lori Hargrave and George LaBonte will help you decide. During each season of FSBB Rick and George will review over 40 boats in several categories such as: center consoles, bay boats, flats boats, dual consoles, pontoon boats, catamarans, bass boats, aluminum boats and possibly kayaks. In addition to reviewing every type of boat imaginable the hosts will cover the latest in outboard technology and tips on how you can get the most out of your engine.
From early spring to late summer boat manufacturers will bring their boats to Stuart, Florida and the filming will be staged out of Pirates Cove Hotel and Marina. Deep See Visuals and their production team will shoot over 36-days on the water, in the water and from the sky, providing the viewer with unmatched insight to today’s newest and best boats on the market.
The premise of Best Boat isn’t to say which is the best boat, but to help you find the “best boat” for you. Based on what type of fishing you’ll be doing, where and with how many people the editors will cover key features in each boat helping you determine what’s important to you. Helping you determine what’s the best boat for me.
Florida Sportsman Best Boat is more than a TV show, each year the editors of Florida Sportsman magazine work with George to produce a 104 page magazine, Florida Sportsman Best Boat magazine, giving you an entire season of tests in a single publication. Plus, you get the most inclusive list of boats, including MSRP pricing, found anywhere. Anywhere, even online. The magazine is on-sale on newsstands each year from October thru December.
In addition to print and the Florida Sportsman Best Boat TV show there is an online feature every week called Boat Show Friday www.floridasportsman.com/boating where you get even more photos and detailed analysis from the editors on what they feel are the key features of each boat.

I priced one of these before buying my newest boat. Great boat but you aren't getting anything close to what's shown here for that 98K MSRP. Adding power will bring you to 140K..Nicely optioned you're around 200K
