Union Pacific Big Boy 4014, the largest steam locomotive that is still running. This is on it's return from it's westbound tour from Cheyenne WY, to Roseville CA.
Magnificent catches of the steam locomotive Big Boy 4014 coming by and pass, I like it 5 stars. Thumbs up. Hearing that puffing and chufing sound is crazy. Keep up the perfect work, my friend, i just liked and subscribed your channel, Greetings from Portugal to the
Finally we get to see a train of matching UP passenger cars behind Big Boy 4014, because for a while I thought they were going to keep the freight train hooked on to show the true strength of the Big Boy. Don't get me wrong, I do like seeing the big boy pulling freight trains, but my goodness, keeping the Big Boy hooked up to a freight train all the way to California even at the display stops along the way... or maybe it was a revenue freight train. Or some other train needing to get to California. Correct me if I'm wrong, but thankfully, Big Boy 4014 is back to pulling UP passenger cars again. I don't mind the diesel helper though because they need dynamic braking assistance. Roll On, Big Boy 4014! Roll On! 🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃
@danielmckinney5527 - I have been waiting to see a video with "un-edited/enhanced audio" and this one is it. I needed "proof" to what my friends (they can be seen in this video) claimed... they swore that the 4,300 hp EMD SD70ACe diesel locomotive UP1983; was "in idle and not helping when it passed them here on the uphill part of Colfax" = this proves that is what happened as the UP "WP Heritage" EMD SD70ACe is in Notch 0 = idling - it shows the power that a single UP Big Boy steam locomotive actually has = 7,000 horsepower at the drawbar 😮
Recent control upgrades now allow Big Boy to run unassisted on main lines, but dynamic braking on the diesel is a great help on a mountainous stretch like across the Sierras. That diesel engine is the historic Western Pacific UP1983. Neat that they had 3 observation cars!
I was on the train, and if you compare this to shots from yesterday or earlier in the run, you'll notice that the lower right-hand step is now missing from the pilot. It also broke one of the RH cylinder cocks that had to be replaced trackside.
We were there too! We were so impressed with it, that after we left Colfax we drove to Soda Springs, up on Donner Summit, to see it again.
@@kevindanel1248 I wanted to chase it up the hill, but my son wasn't having it after our long wait
Great catch! Was very sad to hear that Colfax was snubbed of their Whistle stop. Managed to catch the Old Man at Weimar Cross roads and he was MOVING
@@DeseretFoamer yeah, we waited hours to see it, but it was worth the wait!
We got to ride up here on the big boy so we can visit family when it stoped in Roseville
@@connorgreen822 awesome
I was there and it was bigger then when it was back in Cheyenne Wyoming
