Yes my family lost land in the acquisition during the dam. We were given land in Rajasthan though we were originally from Himachal, but the local land mafia seized the land and forced to sell it for puny amount.

A great historical town of the hills with its glorious past and cultural distinctions is assigned to history submerging it for the sake of national good. The good of the people still awaits reaching to all affected families.
All things have positives and negative. Bhakra Nangal dam is the only reason today Punjab’s farmers are enjoying free electricity from 60 years. Bhakra Nangal dam has done far more good than harm.

Similar case of Pong dam reserviour in Himachal, where displaced people are not granted land is pending for 30 years.Poor people whose electricity connection is cut off who are only surviving like in Bhakra case and on other side are big fishes with acres of forest land encroachment done by universities, industries and big influential people where corrupt government officers do nothing. Rules are always for the weak and poor where govt. on the name of development steal basic rights from poor and make rich richer by giving them freedom of looting public property. Such a shame!

I live here i have met hundreds of people who share the true accounts of how their families were asked to leave their houses and fields and lot of them did not get enough compensation from the government. Most of them made houses and huts in nearby forests and encroached government land. Some were given land in Hisar(Hariana). It is also said that some old people did not want to leave their property so they submerged in the water as dam was filled with water. Many people today have no private property and have their houses on govt. Land. Its a tragedy for Bilaspur as most of the major ancient temples and palaces are submerged under water.

Each and every developmental project must essentially first take into account and address the human problems that the folks affected by the programme might face as a result of the developmental work. Every adult person, there, married or unmarried, be treated as a family and rehabilitated, otherwise the enormity of the human problems will go on multiplying, generation after generation. The developmental work may go on side by side.

Koi aise policy banayi jani chahiye jisme 1st priority rehab ko di jaye ,(NOC) aur titles dene ke baad hi pariyojanaon ka kaam start hona chahiye ,kyu improper rehab ka effect ane wali bhut si generations tak rehta hai

In my area there is also Beautiful temple palasnath it also goes underwater due to ujni dam.
This quickly reminds me of a hindi story of CBSE called "MATIWALI".
Worst affected were landless poors.
