- I decided to take the Amtrak Lincoln Service from Dwight, IL to Chicago Union Station for the day to visit the Willis Tower (I still call it the Sears Tower) Skydeck Chicago as well as the Lincoln Park Zoo. It was my first time riding in the Siemens Venture cars gradually being introduced on the Amtrak Midwest services out of Chicago as well as the Cascades, San Joaquin, among others. The verdict so far has been mixed though I thought they were comfortable enough for the shorter distance routes they are used for. Quite a bit of legroom considering I’m 6 ft 3. Much of the route from Chicago to St. Louis has been upgraded to run 110 mph (Amtrak only) and we did get close to that in sections from Dwight to Joliet. Overall a very smooth ride with views of the Kankakee River in Wilmington as well as Joliet, Lockport, and other towns along the route and a nice view of the skyline entering the city. With 5 trains daily between Chicago and St. Louis (3 Lincoln Service, 1 Lincoln Service/Missouri River Runner, and the Texas Eagle), the route is heavily traveled with both trips being close to full. A Lincoln Service train heading for St. Louis is featured before my train arrived. Enjoy and don’t forget to comment and subscribe!!!
