Yess it is sooo important to take breaks! I just returned from vacation and I haven't uploaded anything on IG for weeks, so I'm pretty scared about how my next post will be received >< I really enjoy your videos ~ they're so chill and you have such a nice voice ^-^ ♥
There was a period when I went through art block -but had no idea what it was or that it would eventually go away- so I told my friends "I quit art, I can't do this anymore, I'm done". And here I am now, working on one of my biggest projects and being proud af!
I completely agree! I was just going through art block and I found that studying how to draw faces better by watching tutorials really helped me! I then applied what I learned to reference studies of photos on Pinterest. I like watching Proko’s channel he goes into a lot of detail about constructing features of the face. Great video btw I love your channel and Instagram page! 😁💕
I am dealing with art block for a couple years now😅 and even then I still entered in art school but still haven't been able to get out of art block. What I have been doing these couple months is seeing youtube artist videos, just got skillshare and need to watch those videos, watch critterosity where she has sip and paint plus talk to her Tuesdays to get tips, I also go to workshops that ground zero hosts which is founded by critterosity. Thanks to this I have slowly breaking through and would like to see more videos like this from you so I can learn more. Oh and patreon is also handy because some artist share process work and stuff 🤗
Maintaining balance is necessary for your life. Taking time to do things other than completing a drawing/painting will allow you to live a fuller life. I have never burned out, but I have switched mediums even switched to digital art for 12 years to keep myself working in the graphic design field! I think you are so talented and diligent, I am hopeful for you and I believe you will have a successful career. Just never give up! Take time for your self and enjoy your life! Oh did I say Never give up?! You are amazing I enjoyed listening and watching your content!
Thank you for this! I'm always looking for artists to listen to while I'm animating. I want to get better with digital painting now that I have an XP Pen tablet, so your videos have been very helpful and made me feel like transitioning from traditional painting to digital will be less daunting than I previously felt.
I had art block too , it happened when i tried to draw something super cool but then it didn't come out great I kinda felt demotivated I thought I'm just not that great at drawing and I didn't wanted to draw for days and it reached to the point where I didn't wanted to draw anymore! But now I'm planning to do your DTIYS so that i can explore new character types and art styles and also this video was amazing , it will be great if you'd post something like this again!
What a totally lovely video. This was very helpful. I'm at that stage of not thinking too much of that bad bits, but enjoying the feelings of improvement. Each time my art skills get stronger. I don't do art everyday, but I've realised that I must change that, even if it's only ten minutes a day as it is very relaxing. Also a BIG POINT that thing you said about actually being afraid to to do art because you feel it will be bad and certainly nothing like what is in your head. I have this feeling with my Copic marker pens. I don't want to use them because I am not skilled enough but yet I want to use them because they are such beautiful colours. I picked almost every colour separately. I have figured out even doing swatches of the colours can sometimes be a lovely warm up and the colours can make you feel better and awaken the joy of art again. BTW your art is VERY cool, I'm sure you yourself are an inspiration to so many others, myself included! :D ❤❤❤❤
I'm in love with your works and style. And this video was so-o-o inspared for me. I'm crying, 'cause I have been thinking about this theme so much. I like your drawings and videos!
Thank you so much for this video! I am literally loosing motivation to do art. I felt like I'm not doing anything better and I just get too disappointed in myself. My parents actually don't think my art and my passion in art would actually lead me to something in life, but fortunately I do believe in my capabilities
Pretty video, it’s cool to see new technique exploration and your feelings about artblock... This kind of video is truly interesting, it could be nice to discuss about an another topics 😊 Very Good job Erika ❤️
I have just discovered that you have a TH-cam channel! (I followed you on Instagram) I'm so happy now as I spend most of my time on TH-cam. Anyway, love your art style and presentation. LOVE. :D
"you can just listen to this while you're drawing or something" me: I've been found out (haha) a really great video on how to react when you feel artblock and burn out-- I will make sure to find back-up tutorials and studies to get ready for if I get caught feeling uninspired! thanks!
I don’t think i have a block... i feel discouraged because i feel invisible. Then i ask myself what the meaning of my art is. I do draw every day just because i want to.
I currently don't do a lot of traditional art besides sketching! Other than the technical stuff, practicing to get better at both traditional and digital art is pretty similar! Try following a tutorial in the medium you'd like to improve at! Sketch a lot from life to build up your drawing skills!
I found you on Instagram😊 I did enjoy this video, and definitely enjoyed your insight into art block. It's always nice to hear what other people do to get out of that rut. Thanks for sharing and I look forward to more videos like this! You do beautiful work and make great videos! ✌❤⭐
Erika: art block is good
Everyone watching: *surprised pikachu meme*

Ugh yes it's always intimidating to post after taking a break! Thank you so much Nadia!
You're great Erika! We all go through that every now and then. Taking a break from all your frustation is totally valid.

Whenever I get art block I just practice training my eyes and hand. I do this by drawing lines or duplicating pictures by eye.

Rediscovering why you love art is a great thing to do when you feel discouraged!
I need to change my mind set
This video is amazing it helped a lot. I love your tutorials and advice videos. What brush do you use for line-art/sketching on Procreate?
Thank you!! I use a lot of @jingsketch's brushes! Check them out on Instagram!
Is it possible to make a video about improving our traditional art skills?
Im just asking cuz I'm a traditional artist and my art sucks :')
