Thank you for watching this video. This Japanese Karate grand master began practicing several kinds of Budo (martial arts) at age 6 and has 60 years of Budo experience. Through this experience, he has created this Makiwara practice video. Please do not imitate this exercise if you are an amateur or a beginner and not to be used to Makiwara practice. If you have a Sensei, please follow his advice. Thank you for your understanding.
This grand master is a modern day Orochi Doppo. I greatly admire the discipline of grand masters like this. If I could rewind time I would have truly enjoyed to dedicate myself as they do. It’s very humbling. I would want to do it to only better myself through time and become a better person. The protection aspect of it to me would be a perk. Like when ppl say “makiwaras don’t hit back” about a karateka, it’s not about it hitting back or starting a fight, it’s about the discipline and IF it comes to that, it’s guaranteed that his fist will be more useful. Great content.
Very good explanation. How about the care and aftercare of the hands. I've been doing this for over 2 years, I hit on bare wood, which I tie to a tree. I also train with my shin. In the future, the wood will be replaced with iron.
Skin heal?Skin is easily be healed with hand cream if not by burning. Healing for training with Makiwara here is not the skin but the internal injury of the hands. In Chinese, they have some wine called 跌打酒(in English meaning fall strike/beat wine)which made with Chinese herbs/medicines and some even with animals.

Por favor faça mais vídeos sobre makiwara de como usar do iniciante ao avançado.
do you put anything in your skin after training Makiwara? Anything to help the skin heal, or help the skin callous? thank you for the knowledge.
After hitting Makiwara, wash hands with soap and keep clean all the time.
