I really like that more compact look, that was one of the reasons I gonna go with the old town 136. I have my ulterra on Ascend now so I have the spot lock capabilities but the shaft is long but I guess its nothing to be concerned about. Im gonna launch for the first time today. That ulterra is a 24v trolling motor though, I do like the idea of having one 12v battery in a neat box you have. I think the only thing I would personally change on your rig is to run the 12v from the rear.
Yea but my battery is a lithium. So it only weighs 15 lbs or so. That’s why I put it up front , and also helps counter weight the outboard. Yea spot lock is amazing on water with current.
@@thejuanderdude7911 not weight, I think it would be a cleaner look but that’s just me personally. I plan to stand up fish and maybe be up in that space a bit, you think it’s stable enough stand that far upfront?
@@jhill6033 yea I don’t think I find myself walking past the hatch area. Even though the space is there it’s still a little tippy. So walking back would be a little iffy also. So taking up the space for battery or cooler was ideal for me.
@@thejuanderdude7911 ok morning will keep that in mind, I saw a guy do a stability test and he did but he had a small outboard mounted in the rear. So overall I take it your pleased?
@@jhill6033 still working some issues out with the rear hatch and the scuppers. It was on my last video, I think I found a solution so we’ll see if they work. I was trying to make it out on the water today to test them but family issues came up and had to cancel. Next week I’ll be on the water and test it out.
I'm getting ready to buy the boat on sale at Cabela's this week I already have the old town sportsman 136 with the minn kota power drive with spot lock which is awesome. They are offering a discount this year with a motor guide kayak trolling motor with their version of spot lock which I've never tried. It is a kayak trolling motor so no need to shorten the shaft. Are you familiar with this motor? I subbed to see the stuff your doing to modify it for the gas motor. Looks awesome by the way. The only bad reviews I've seen is that the floor is kinda week and I've seen pics of cracks where people stand in front of the seat but who knows. I'm 240 lbs but have bad hips so I'll be sitting only Does the floor flex alot when you stand up? Not sure what you weigh but less than me I'm sure. Love the vids
You said the shaft started at 54” in another comment. How much total length did you take off? Since it’s been a year would have done things differently?
Hey, can you do a detail review of your trailer? Thinking about converting my John boat trailer and needed a little insight on measurements of the hull if you're using PVC tubing that I see a lot of guys on youtube doing.
I actually just thought I’d load it up on my truck bed. So we’ll see how that goes 🤣. If it becomes too cumbersome I may have to think about trailer options. I haven’t tried launching it with the setup it has now. But I did pull it around the block on a kayak dolly when I did the pool test and was manageable.
@@thejuanderdude7911I got mine last March and I throw mine in the back of the truck. I also purchased a bed extender. My challenge is, when docking after being on the water all day and thru the eve. Pull up to the dock, go get your truck, walk back to the yak with your cart in hand and try to slip that cart under it is a B....lol and having to unload sum of the gear, cooler etc just to be able to attempt to slip the cart under it was a son of a B! And dont let the ramp incline be covered with algae omg, You better keep the life jacket on, is all I'll say lol. You're launching from a beach if I'm not mistaken but boat ramps are the devil lol
@@stroboogy yea that does sound like a pain! The only thing i can think of is the boonedox landing gear. Although a little pricey!! But looks to be a well spent investment. I’ll see what I encounter and what I can come up with. But yea the “strapped” style dolly’s are a PIA I may go another route or end up biting the bullet and go boonedox. 😖
@@thejuanderdude7911 I saw those before and wish I would've taken that route vs purchasing two different ascend carts @$100 after tax, each. I also purchased the one with the straps and which was the one was giving me the flux. Go Boonedox, if it wasnt because I already have a trailer with a John boat that I was selling. Imma keep the trailer and maybe trash the boat. People arent serious about buying and it's been on the.market since I got the ascend. @@stroboogy oh yea definitely if you already have the trailer go that route. Yea and getting a title for a trailer that has been lost is a nightmare. Nearly impossible. Yea I think I may go boonedox. We’ll see how it goes this weekend. I just got updated tracking on my last steering piece it comes tomorrow afternoon so I should be hitting water Saturday!
Nice, have you tested it? If so, hows lowering and dropping it into the water has been? I want to cut mine but the height helps me tilt the motor out the water
Yea looking to test it in a few weeks my last steering part was back ordered and won’t be here till mid next week. But yea that height does assist in pulling it back down so will be interesting to try it on the water.
Ok gotcha! Nice videos very informative 👍 I hope works for you, it definitely gives you a ton of space in the cockpit. I definitely look forward to seeing the follow up. Keep the vids coming we enjoy them for sure. Working on a bulge pump system for mine, a livewell that draws from the lake and one that can be self circulate the water in the livewell. Having a hard time finding a T Shape directional valve in the correct size to match my plumbing system. I have a few more mods I wanna do as well (keeping it a secret lol) but i will drop more videos on my channel once completed.
@@stroboogy sounds good brother! Yea I’m upset that the last piece I needed was back ordered. At least I can mount the first part of the steering working in it as we speak) 😂 . Should be a few weeks till it’s ready. Got some other stuff I wanna button up anyway before setting off .
Same here, I need to actually move my transducer up a little bit in the cutout in the hull and add these LED button lights underneath the seat. I'm in Illinois so the weather just broke, making it possible for me to hangout in the garage. Doing KBF tournaments this year so trying to get her where she needs to be.
@@stroboogy nice man, not sure if I’ll get into any tourneys with this setup. Just too much to deal with. I built it more for off shore setup. Summer is rolling through Florida again was the coldest year I’ve seen in a while so weather is getting to where it should be again.
Great video, thanks for sharing
Nicely done. I got the xi3 kayak trolling motor so I didn't have to cut the shaft and void my warranty.
Saw your comment over on Aliex Folgueira's channel. Brought me here. Hope to see it on the water soon!!
Thanks! Yea not trying to leech but since he’s dipping into the 133x thought I try to catch his eye on my build. The 133x has so much potential.

I’m looking to get a setup similar to yours pretty soon
I hope they help in your build! Been doing quite a bit of tweaking just fixing the weak links in the chain.
If the head is off a tiny bit will it mess with spot lock of locking on to a specific heading

Sweet rig!! Where did you get the outboard mount or did you make it?
It’s a wilderness systems transom mount. I had to modify it and make it thicker
