The Jesuits worldwide embark upon the celebration of the Ignatian year on the 20th of May 2021 commemorating the 500th anniversary of the injury (Cannonball moment of St Ignatius of Loyola) of St Ignatius at Pamplona, Spain. The celebration will come to closure on the 31st of July 2022. We are also going to mark the 400th anniversary of the canonization of St Ignatius along with his bosom friend St Francis Xavier on 12th of March 2022, right in the middle of the Ignatian year.
Let us greatly benefit through the celebration of these anniversaries where we recall and relive the profound conversion experiences of founding fathers of the Society of Jesus (The Jesuits) during this Ignatian Year by entering upon them with great spirit and generosity (Sp Ex No 5). May the sharing of the spiritual experiences of the persons from different walks of life enable us to see all things new in Christ, the motto of the Ignatian Year.
May we meditatively ponder over the insight taken from the inspiring book ‘The Imitation of Christ’ written by Thomas á Kempis which was one of the favourite books of St Ignatius of Loyola.
