I was listening to this for the first time on headphones eating lunch alone at a Thai restaurant with only Thai people in there, and I was laughing so hard I couldn't catch my breath. Two different people came over and asked if I was ok.
To this day I don't think I've laughed as hard. God bless the good old days.

Is it just me? Or is it just beyond belief looking back. That Opie actually thought He had any of the charisma needed, had anything to say interesting enough to require a TV show, or really had any modicum of talent to entertain, which would require him to have a TV show.
I know a lot of people pile on Opie because it's fun. And even though they're being honest that Opie isn't really funny or entertaining. Some people admit that at times he brought to the show. The ability at radio guy to keep it on track. As well as a good ability to withstand uncomfortable situations, to draw out cringe-worthy situations for the show's benefit. Essentially he was a program director that helped with car crash radio. Aka like a car crash people would know that they shouldn't be listening but they wanted to see what happened next and couldn't turn it off. Which Kobe was very good at helping earlier years.
But without a doubt at least when they got to their satellite years. The fact that he didn't realize. That he could be so unaware. Do you not realize once they stop doing car crash radio that he essentially added nothing to the show. And I really don't mean to be a dick. It's just shocking to me and must be said. While I know I couldn't really probably do any better than Opie. I at least realize my lack of skill at entertaining. Most mentally healthy people who lack the ability to do something. It's just sad to what a 50 year old man that really had a great break in life and found a good teammate in what day did click for a while. But he doesn't realize he had a nice break in life he actually thinks it was simply his skill that afforded him those things when that couldn't be further from the truth. He really doesn't understand that Anthony created over 85% of any entertainment value on the show. And I don't mean just quick-wit or humorous things. I mean all entertainment value including interesting discussion factoids stories. It was Anthony and I'm being generous when I say created at least 85% probably more any and all words on air that were deemed interesting or humorous. If you really want to try click on any random funny moments or interesting discussion in pay attention to the minutes that go by without Opie saying anything at all,. Or simply just repeating some of the things he's seeing or hearing. Or narrating for the audience some of the things he seen that other people are doing funny. You can listen to any clip of the show and you could find hours go by that Opie says 50 words or absolutely nothing of substance. You will not hear 10 minutes go by without Anthony or Jim carrying the conversation if you really pay attention to who's saying what. Yet it just saddens me someone could be so delusional to think not only did they contribute so much when they don't, to not realize how completely handicapped they are with basic social. and I really don't say it to be mean because Opie talked quite a bit over the years about his mother's mental illnesses and he didn't say those things to be mean. Elsie said them to get a point across. That it's crazy how grandiose someone can do themselves. And not realize they're a mentally ill person with social handicapps. and again I'm not saying that just to be mean it's just true name a single person that Opie worked with over the last 30 years that he currently not even is friends with but even gets along with? And sorry for the long post. But it just drives me insane that a person that can't maintain a single friendship over a 30-year million-dollar career yet still thinks he's socially skilled. It's just everyone else that is a backstabbing ass hole. That right there points you toward mental illness. In this person is actually discussing their need and credentials to be on a television show.
It's just so awful to hear. The only television show I would honestly put him anywhere near. Would be a celebrity rehab, or a celebrity counseling type show. And sadly I'm not kidding.
Thanks for listening to my rant. It just drives me crazy hearing Opie speak about what he deserves or his talents. Because most people who grew up like Opie or with his background. Would be so fucking happy with all he had acheived and gotten in his life, including enough money to retire at 45 and meeting tons of amazing people.
But not Opie. He should have Howard Stern money, but everyone screwed him. If you really want to see Opies mental illness. Just pay attention to how every time he talks about positive things in his life. They are always because of his talents and because of him. Noone else. But if you ever hear him discuss the bad things that have happened his life. Weather getting fired through the years with Anthony, not being friends with people today, making enemies in the business, people writing bad articles about him (Bam Margera), Sex for Sam, up thru him losing his AM Job and time slot and getting fired from Sirius because of the video tape with Roland. Oddly what you went hear about that stuff in his life. Is that any of that bad stuff was his fault.
sex for Sam was because of the jerks in the church and the media assholes that reported on it.
People hating him in the radio business. Were because they were jealous of him and they wanted his money.
Not talking to a single coworker or employee that he worked with over the past 30 years? They are all back stabbers that he never should of trusted.
Losing his morning slot to Sam and Jim? This is the funniest one. because everytime up and Anthony went through the business and took someone's time slot it's because they were really really good and the Opie and Anthony show got ratings. Those people should quit bitching and get better at their job.
But oddly when Jim and Sam take Kobe's morning time slot. Not only did it have nothing to do with Opie taking nearly a month off from work with time that he didn't have to take off.
Jim is a conniving backstabber who played political games to take the morning slot. In Sam was a shortcut taking protege to backstab healthy the first chance he got to get himself into the big chair.
It just couldn't be any more obvious that Opie is maladjust to the challenges of adulthood and social life. Has delusions of grandeur. With a narcissistic view of ones effect on their own life. And that is a layman's view of it, I am by no means diagnosing him. And someone get doctor Steve. Does he fit with the standard definition of a sociopath?... Someone fill me in with the answer.
And before you ask yes this was all voice typed. So any of the misspellings and typos are probably because of that. and it really didn't take me very long to voice type this all out. so please don't think I'm spending my entire life obsessed with Opie Hughes.. .lol
I just can't help but think at all when I hear the things he says and his old shows......uuuugghhhh....... very unlikable.... Lol haha. Not that it matters he's rich story at least richer than me in probably enjoying his life ...... overall. Lol

The reason you felt the need to write this is because you likely are a hardcore listener to countless OnA clips on TH-cam. Like many others. Almost no one, besides old hardcore 20 year listeners hate Opie and just have a personal vendetta or sumthin tss. I found them by accident due to Patrice. What happens is people become avid fans of the comedy and plow through every possible clip on TH-cam of OnA lol. And over that period of time you start to pick up all the douche chill and inauthentic moments from these guys.
The unfortunate situation for Opie is that he consists of the majority of those God awful moments. He does shit that makes you say out loud WTF are you doing or saying. He likes to pretend old Opie grew up and evolved, but he never did. He was always the frat boy, try to be cool and act like he knew it all. Instead of just being himself, if that was possible now that I think about it lol. He constantly fake laughed and felt resentment towards comics and funny people who were Tommy gun fast. That's why he really loved Vos, Bobo, Lady Di ect.
They were more on his level. Ones he could handle mentally. I truly question his intellect the more I think about it. Out of all the clips I've ever heard I don't recall him ever getting real deep into anything thought provoking. EVER. He would pretend to be knowledgeable, but would always look for confirmation and said RIGHT GUYS? Then when he did he would go back to sir knows a lot attitude.
You'll find almost all anti opie people never started out hating the guy. But the guy clearly was in the room with the wrong crowd. Intellect and comedy are not his forte. Cringe humor is funny, but it matters whose doing it. He lacked any comedy nuance. Some times he comes off okay, but most of the time his voice and boobies terminology is insufferable.
Instead of learning comedy and a sense of humor, he was busy shoving marshmallows in his rectum to please his frat buddies. To fit in and be cool. I would love to him how he holds a conversation in private. Good luck talking philosophy with the guy.
His lack of talent and stupefying comments drive A SHITLOAD OF PEOPLE to feel the need to leave a comment on a multitude of posts. Sometimes we are in a mood that can't gloss over a douche comment or saying something so idiotic, it merits a response.
Plus, maybe we are trying to make up for all the times he bombed or read like a 2nd grader, and no one could say anything. That guy got away with years worth of bombs, flubs, and douche chill radio. He blamed Anthony for all the anti Opie comments. Which goes to the point of narcissistic tendencies and a warped POV and lack of any self awareness. The best was when Vos called out a positive Opie phone call as the pandering line. To have a caller remind the fucking guests about a joke he made that got no response. That's psychotic that he never thought they maybe I'm not funny or to just lay low and focus on his job. There's a reason why even cringe humor Opie could hardly listen to his old radio clips when they played them. Cumia was awful to but you could see the formation of what he became. With Opie? Just listen to sperm bowl 96 and the bra bombing fir starters. Its unparralel in its shit nature.

His youtube videos show his "talent". For a while I always wanted to meet him and tell him to his face what an unfunny no talent cunt he is and while he deserves that and it's his own fault everyone he's ever interacted with hates him, I'd feel bad. Maybe if the time comes I'll just remember all the funny conversations he ruined by pipping up

Goddamn you boys got time. I agree with you but I still think it has to be said that without opie, Anthony would have never gotten into radio. Opie saw his talent and rode his “wave” for a long time. I also think that without opie, Anthony would have been fired everywhere he went. Opie dealt with almost all the management things and pretty much managed their carreers and did so with great success at the beginning. In the end he got jealous of ants talent and fucked it all up, but I still think he deserves credit. He was a bore and annoying but he also was a (pretty big) part of in my opinion the best and funniest radioshow/talkshow/podcast of all time
