I'm so glad that Jane Austen has had a return to popularity. I graduated from high school and college in the 1970s and, even though I had several literature classes, JA was never on the reading list! Her books are so well worth reading. But I didn't realize that until my daughters had reading lists with her novels when they were in HS. For another novel with a Jane Austen vibe, I recommend Hamerston Hall by Jane Eastbourne
That is the largest collection of classics I have ever seen!
Make sure you watch the film Love and Friendship!
I recommend you read Laura Wade's play The Watsons. It is a masterpiece. So much fun!
One last thing. Good luck on your doctorate. Love your video. Lots of fun.
@@chambersstevens3135 Thank you!
Excellent choices! I have been thinking of reading The Doctor’s Wife in August, so if you don’t manage to get round to it in July, maybe we should buddy read it in August to make us both read it!
I'd love to do a buddy read of The Doctor's Wife in August! Literally days after uploading this video I decided to push it off another month. 😂 I'm going to pick up Charlotte Riddell's The Moors and the Fens this month instead since I'm writing my chapter on her first.
This is super a fun challenge! I just reread northhanger abbey and it was my first time rereading since high-school I forgot just how hilarious she is! the masterpiece adaptation is brilliant. Now I want to reread pride and prejudice too
I love Northanger so much! I'm excited for the adaptation!
I'll be reading Love and Freindship (vol 2) also! I'm also doing a P&P graphic novel.
A P&P graphic novel sounds really fun! I finished Love and Friendship the other day (hilarious) and decided to read the whole volume. It's been fun!
I'm reading a book called Finding Happiness in Jane Austen,. It was written by a lady in my Jane Austen Society. It discusses Austen's endings as not being satisfying. It's interesting but I'm not crazy about it. i just read The Watsons..
That does sound really interesting. I'll have to look it up. What did you think of The Watsons? I honestly can't remember it all.
I haven’t reread any Jane Austen in a while, especially Pride and Prejudice for the reason you said lol. I’m curious about what your thoughts on Love and Friendship will be. I’m currently reading Zorba the Greek. Great video ❤
Thanks! ❤ I just finished Love and Friendship and thought it was hilarious. I can see her developing into the novelist she became. Zorba the Greek sounds really interesting!
I read NAbbey & The Mysteries of Udolpho back to back for Febregency few yrs back; really enjoyed the latter but was not enamoured in the least with the former which was *totally* unexpected 😆 So far ive read NA, Persuasion💞 & S&S so fingers crossed for P&P tho tbh im not sure A is really a favourite for me🙁maybe that'll chanage (LSusan & PP for 2025).. Ive committed / fallen down a Henry James hole for July (think im the only person on yt that likes his books) 😂 😅🙅♀
Sorry you didn't like Northanger! It's a fave of mine, but I can see why people wouldn't like it. I remember when I read it for class some people complained about how mean-spirited the satire was. I just bought a book by Henry James! The only one I've read by him is The Turn of the Screw, and I want to get to more from him.
