Stef, you may have to start looking worldwide for pens because you have a limited market in the UK. The sad thing about used pens is many people just throw them out when they become broken or tarnished. Remember Stef, you win some and you loose some. Please, don't give up. You are valued by your customers.
I wish i had the funds to look worldwide as i would enjoy the pen hunt abroad. Yes i do sometimes find some decent pens so i think i need to keep searching. Cheers
Pen hunting is definitely keeping you young Steff😄 (although you're driving to the venues on the wrong side of the road🙃). There were some nice finds - Summit, Wyvern 404 and blue Waterman's - and your fantastic restorations make it all worthwhile in the end.
Sad to say, Stef, but I agree with you. It seems an awfully expensive and strenuous way to collect three or four very good pens along with a grocery bag-full of oddments. Other enthusiasts have also commented on the growing scarcity of vintage pens over the last couple of years; perhaps everyone started collecting during the 'virus years.' It's much the same over here in the People's Republic of Victoria. As for rising before noon........words fail me. All the best, old chum.
It used to be that I could drive on a Saturday to different areas and come home with a hand full of pens but they are getting harder to find. I feel alot of it is that more people are putting them online and selling them because they are so easy to ship and research these days. Even some flea market vendors that use to sell pens at their stalls now go online to move them. I've pondered the same question and for me, I will keep at it because I am a collector, not a seller, and I think at times I enjoy the thrill of the hunt as much as the find.
Seek and you will find , let's be fair Stef over the years you have had some unbelievable finds and they never come easy. I just knew you were going to tease again.
I’ve noticed in recent years it’s like looking for a needle in a haystack mainly antique shops and even centres are devoid of any writing instruments .made by the million where are they ?online auctions?dealers hoovering them up and selling on line ?ive even heard businesses on radio asking for vintage pens decent prices paid it can be very disappointing but I still search in hope of occasionally finding something
Yes i totally agree with you comments as i am out looking for them and find them getting harder to find. But they dont come to my door so i need to search for them. Thanks
I used to buy a lot of pens on Yahoo Auction in Japan, but the combination of a much weaker yen and new websites that make it easy for people out of the country to bid, prices have very significantly increased and what I can sell the pens I have very much decreased. I stopped buying. Every now and then I watch some auctions to see if I can get a few pens, but just end up discouraged. Saw one today that just a few years ago I could've gotten for maybe 15,000-20,000 yen went for a bit under 60,000. I now just get an occasional cheap Chinese pen to mess with at work.
There are still pens on auction sites but when i read "fully restored" and clearly the images show the pen is in a sad state then is is a big no no for me. Plus i do prefer to handle and inspect pens before i buy them. Thanks for watching.
100% worth it. I live in Bulgaria and the quality of some of the pens I find in rural markets is amazing. I picked up a Montblanc 221 and a Markant 165 last week.

I absolutely understand why you might be a bit dejected. It's a lot of time and graft for uncertain reward. But you are an inspiration, Stef.
Thank you for your kind words, im sure i will try again and see.
Some of us have no local or even national opportunity for these hunts, so we live them through you!
Thats a shame for you. Im sure i will try again for you to enjoy. Thanks

Well it keeps me on my toes anyway. There are a couple of interesting ones. Ill keep trying for now.

Yes they are definatly grtting harder to find but im sure they are still out there. Cheers Bruce.
@@penkino1 Oh dear! And it's well past the first of April. I can't help it if the family originated in Somerset.
Touche and well done, old chap!

Yes i think you have answered correctly with you comments. Im sure i will keep trying, if you dont look you will not know. Thanks

Yes unfortunatly the pens do not come to me so i do need to "seek" them out. Hopefully the tease will keep you watching :-).

Stef, Yes It's worthed, because you will make someone happy once you do your magic on a pen that you find and he/she likes.
Well if i make someone happy then it must be woth it. Thanks Ahmed.
If you can buy them for pennies and sell them for many pounds, it's always worth it.
"FOR PENNIES"? Were do you buy pens for pennies ?

Blue Waterman 515, nice!
Yes it will be after a little work. Cheers

Thanks for sharing and well done. Good luck with your pen hunting.
Love the P51 with a converter and a cartridge in the box! 😂😂 What a bonus! But I think your YoL also saved the day, whatever that vac is ;-)
I have too many 51s George so just another to go in the draw. A couple of these did save the day including the vac. Thanks
Sorry, I was being sarcastic about the 51. What does a converter and a cartridge doing in a box with an aerometric 51? :-)
Ha ha ! Sorry i missed that George. Cheers.
Has to be worth it as long as you enjoy the hunt & some of the rare finds
When i find some interesting pens then yes it is worth it. Thanks.
