I don’t know what to say. This song is freaking amazing. The way the rhythm rolls on through with the acoustics and drums is effortlessly flawless. And those vocals! How is it possible that the more that her voice ages, the stronger it becomes. And to think that she lost that voice for nine months, not even knowing if she would ever be able to sing again. I’ll see you in June in Providence, RI Natalie!!
The melody on this song has Motherland vibes in parts to me. Absolutely love it.
My favourite song on the album, but I don't hear much of 'Motherland'. In places, it reminds me a little bit of Peter Sarstedt's "Where Do You Go To, My Lovely" (eg the "But you"ll never be free" part).
@@portcullis5622 I guess we all find bits of a melody that reminds us of other parts of other songs.
For me in the first track "BIg Girls" I find a few notes in the beginning that sound like Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and then a part that sounds like Lulu's "To Sir With Love"

@@katzparov Yes, inevitable after years of listening to lots of types of music.
I do like the new album (I have just listened to it as a full album for the first time), but my initial observation is that it features a lot of slow paced, heavily orchestrated songs, which tend to blend into one.
I find that the more I listen to it, the more I like it.
I have had a number of songs that I have had looping for hours on end.
"Bad Girls" being one of them.
Years ago when I was heavily into U2, I was eagerly waiting for "ACHTUNG BABY" to be released.
When it was released I was not crazy about the album. I was expecting something more like JOSHUA TREE.
I was disappointed. Listened to the CD a few times and then put it on the shelf.
After about two weeks I tried listening to it again. ACHTUNG BABY ended up becoming one of my all time favorite albums.
That is one big reason that I no longer listen to reviewers and critics nor judge an album based on first listenes or even first few days of listening.

Who is the statue of the woman supposed to be? My guess is Joan of Arc, am I right? As for Natalie's music, it's my main choice of music when driving long distances in the car. My two favorites are Tigerlily and Ophelia (They keep me calm in the car). Motherland is okay too, but I wasn't thrilled with House Carpenter's Daughter, or Leave your Sleep. But I just started playing songs from this CD, and I like them so I will probably get the CD.
