And while this an extremely long shot who know's if it would be possible for the two to be merged. If Big E is getting more and more powerful and clearly more active GW might go that far. After all Sanguinius model would be like printing money.
Thank you, Rho. I lost my dad a while ago and had to move back home to become my mothers caretaker. So I lost my dad and then had to move away from my life, my friends, to care for my family. It's been really hard. But I want to say, thank you. You, and other lore masters, have become my only source of peace. I wish I had some people I knew in rl that were into 40k the way I am (a lore junkie and returning table top player).
On the one hand, guilliman is probably quite upset about the various sons of the lions peacing out, but once he hears about the Lion's return and that they've all rallied around him, in addition to the Lion's Enclave in Imperium Nihilus, he probably will be quite content to set the Lion to the task of maintaining and expanding that Enclave in all directions. Without the Tichulchal engine, the rock will likely have greater issues navigating the warp, so once it's in imperium nihilus it'll have trouble moving around there. The Imperium also has no idea what abadon and vashtorr are looking for or where they might next strike, not to mention there are still innumerable arcs of omen running around, each a severe threat on their own.
Can't wait to read about their reunion. I think it will be one of great warmth and cheere. Truly, I think they will both be so overwhelmed to see another, and forget all past grudges. JOHNSON will finally be War Master of the imperium. Roubout will be Regent.
A thought: perhaps the old ones DIDNT loose to the necrons. Perhaps the eldari and orks betrayed them for reasons unknown? We know at times the eldar and necrons worked together. Perhaps this will tell us more about such?

I started watching this and then decided to follow your advice and listen to the story first, luckily Baldermort has done a full reading of the story on youtube which is excellent and highly recommended. Overall I really enjoyed the story, it had some really great moments. I just wish we could have seen some more interactions between the Lion, Dante and Azrael. Hopefully we'll get some of those moments in the future.
IMO they did a much better job bringing the lion back than they did with G man. I like how the lion just walk quietly back out from the forest to no fan fanfare, planets exploding or galaxy torn in half. The Warhawk or Vulcan will be next. I wonder if each new primarch returned gets something of the emperor’s weapons and what it might be next.
Haven't read Guilliman's awakening but the image of him waking up in the middle of a battle and proceeding to Emperor's Children them all to death with his fists is awesome and hilarious to me. The Lion waiting for Dante to fall felt a bit cliché but the ensuing fight was pretty good.
I listened to this in my car, because i knew I'd be constantly pausing this to ramble on to myself about plot points and characters and theories and likes and dislikes and cookie recipes and my favorite kind of trees and I knew I had to be away from people for THAT. Thanks, man. Keep them coming.
I wonder if The Lion will simply take up the role of a Chapter Master in his own right. He takes a play out of the Black Templar's book and declares himself on Crusade, and any Fallen marines are automatically in his chapter. He doesn't want to rule, he just wants to protect humanity, after all.
I think it will change once he realises the true state of things. Now that he knows Guilliman lives and he isn't the only Primarch he might take on more of a leadership role.
I imagine he'll rebuild the legion, forgiving and uniting both the "Un"forgiven and the Risen. Judging by the way the Blood Angels were involved, he might even take a contingent of them, or at least they could have a strong alliance and operate together as a sort of angel crusade

It’s valdor, as confirmed in the latest bequin/eisenhorn/ravenor novel. He’s building untouchable blank saints to fight chaos. His spear lets him know the true names of every demon it kills so eventually he’ll get the names of the the highest demons. He also is whom the cognitea where working for unknown to them.

I'd like a short novella of a wolf company encountering Johnson and his Risen Knights resulting in Johnson visiting Fenris and putting an end to the dual of the Lion and the Wolf as a waste of time and resources.
Chaos getting into the webway means the eldar can't hide from chaos as easily. Additionally the terrain webway, and thus the imperial palace are possibly is more vulrnable to chaos attack. Vashtor could make an ally of slanesh by opening up the webway and letting her realm bleed I to it, letting Ber get at the dark eldar and harlequin souls that have been out of reach until now and possibly means she could catch the laughing god. Probably wouldn't happen but you never know. I think most importantly it gives the black legion access to warp travel that's unrelated to the gods. If abby working w/ vashtor or going from "warmaster of chaos" to "warmaster of imperium nihilus" has upset the gods, or if he is planning to upset them later, then staying out of the warp is likely very useful. Webway travel might also be more reliable than warp traves so he might have a simple, but valuable, logistical advantage.

Is it really Abbadon victory considering he is playing second fiddle to Vashtorr plan in his accession to becoming the fifth chaos god, and it is Abbadon who is suffering the losses to these battles and who realized that a another Loyalists Primarch has return to once again fight him and his forces. One has to remember that Chaos is fighting all across the Galaxy against all the factions in the Galaxy, and quite frankly Abbadon is stretching his own force for the benefits of a Chaos Being who doesn’t really appreciate him and one who doesn’t seems to realize how much of a threat the Lion Returns really means to the forces of chaos and in particular the Black Legion as they are the main force within the ruinous powers.
Not really. Abaddon is getting the weapons to cleanly and "free of chaos" win the Long War and rule the Galaxy. Vashtor is becoming a God. They have both things to gain. As for losses, Abaddon deliberately used chaos forces not of the Black Legion to fill the Arks and act as the vanguard in this battle. The losses were mostly Death Guard, Emperors Children, Chaos Admech and Vashtors mortal followers. The cream of the Black Legion slaughtered the First Legion in the void battle and took few casualties. It is noted, that this was because of Abaddon’s enormous experience and his skill in reading the enemies plans.

I think abandon being off in the web way allows the focus to be on the tyranids as the big bad without having to explain what he’s doing about it or way he isn’t doing anything about it witch does work for now anyway though long term they have to address what his plan is to deal with the nids

The thing that confused me the most was the double page dedicated to the Risen and the Redeemed. Almost makes it sound like they are gone, but Borz is listed among them so I'm not sure what is going on there. I'd be absolutely heartbroken if Zabriel and Lohoc were somehow offed in between the ending of Son of the Forest and the finale of Arks of Omen. EDIT: My other burning question as I don't have a sense for 40k novel releases is when we could reasonably expect a continuation of this storyline?
@@MrZuriax not known. But very possible. They are both mentioned by name and with flowing epithets. They could have been with him fighting. Presumably not killed. Named characters don't get killed as background extras.

I see a possibility plot to start a civil war between the brothers. One will fight the bugs and the one brother helping the other half in the dark. (To be clear GWS could write the high lords plot a civil war to take power back)
Cant wait until Lion and Gulliman meet again. I suspect it will be an emotional meeting given the circumstances between the two brothers. I think it clear Gulliman misses his loyalist brothers. Lion words were clear about Robute. Clear he was delighted and relieved to know his brother yet lived.
I suspect that Lion wil reform his Legion with it being made of chapters. But with him the leadership of the Dark Angels legion. I think that will match Gulliman's recent views that splitting the legions may have been a mistake I think Gulliman would understand that Lions sons reacted to a major Ark of Omen threat. That also linked to his brother's return

Imperium Nihilus will only be retaken from a strong base that Robute has secured for his Father. There are quotes within the books that imply The Emperor agreed with Imperium Secondus. The ancient Egypt quotes The Emperor made. It was to ensure His legacy regardless of the outcome of the Heresy.

It can be implied that due to The First Legion involvement with Imperium Secondus that was to secure The Emperor's legacy that Imperium Secondus was right and approved of. Remember The Emperor had foresight beyond time and space. It is implied he wanted things to occur as they did or he had some knowledge that things may occur as they did.
There are over 20k “fallen” of his sons still in this galaxy maybe more, they left off with the arks of omen ending with the dark angels being a fraction of what it was. So they are setting it up for the Lion Cypher and Luther wrap up there we find out who Cypher is, the lion killing Luther and the dark angels going back to legion strength adding all the fallen knights into. And in the lion son of the Forrest when the lion is in the castle there are obvious hints at Sanguinius being a potential revive. That’s why Dante found him, the lion saved him from death. Roboutes return was a yawn, the lions return is an absolute ROAR.

The Dissonance engine does not work in such a way as to [directly] enable C'tan defeat. It was meant to fight the Necron. After all, if the Necron were neutralized or destroyed the C'tan would be sitting ducks for the Old Ones.
I got a feeling the vect will return along side of the kharn but not being able to stop vastor opening the vault but kick Abaddon back out of the webway
Guilimans link to the Eldari will come into play i think as he meets with the Lion. I even think Guilliman will here of the Lions return from the Eldari.
There is a quote in the book where angron dose say how the lion is just another skull for khorne and he needs to just die so he can go back to killing his sons so I'd say he did recognize him
Plot demands the characters to act like imbeciles when it fits, hell this very last act of this arc started because the Dark Angels could help but walk into a trap they knew it was set up against them.
They came more than prepared. Most of the void battle, that Rho left out, was about getting the Rock and its dark ages world killer weapons into orbit. Chaos lead by Abaddon on the Vengeful Spirit beat then hard, and ultimately the Planet had warpbased defences stronger than the combined First Legion, Blood Angels and navy fleets could overcome.
Wouldn’t it be great if the chaos gods pulled all the demons assaulting the webway entrance beneath the palace on Terra to go and stop Vashtor and the Emperor could get a min to recollect himself and get off the throne!!! Emperor reborn!
Everyone talks about 10th edition Tyranid invasion of galactic west, but nobody mentions Tyranid victory in octarius war. This is probably the biggest threat for humanity since men of iron.
Abbadon “won” but it turns out it was just the first stage: now he and Vashtor need to use their “key” to unlock the next one and they’ll have to face down new super powerful opponents before they can reach… most probably yet another stage! XD
Wouldn't be surprised if the key they need is in Trazyn's museum... Also this sets up the return of Jaghatai Khan. Because the engine they are building is designed to destroy the Webway. Or at least a good portion of it, they are planning to blow out the Webway gate under the imperial palace.
I know GW isn't going to do it tomorrow or anything but it is possible in the inner depths of GW they are maybe thinking about End Time'ing the 40K universe. It has always be said in the lore of 40k when all the primarchs get back together (or the ones still alive) that it all done. The last great war/battle.
Where in the lore does it say that? Besides, even if it were true, there's a ton of Primarchs still absent - years, decades even, until those still alive are all back.
@@mouseketeery GW brought back two primarchs in less time it took them to finish dawn of war 3... they are going to bring another primarch back in two years to roll out another addition. That will hopefully make the emperor a chaos God, and the primarchs his demon princes.
Asmodai will want the Risen to take a penitent crusade against the chaos corrupted fallen. He'll probably join them. But the reunion of primarchs will be the one to watch for. Maybe the emperor will give the lion some more words which will bring the yellow king and Russ into action
Another retuned Primearch? One who has been in the grips of the Laughing God for 10 Millennium? As well the return of Ynead within the lore? Wouldn't be surprised to see a missing Primearch aid the followers of Ynead enter the domain of slanesh, and exit ... "with haste" We already heard about a White Storm riding upon a chariot of lightning.
But can they stop Abaddon? No one has been able to so fare. Him ad Vasthor just kicked every faction in their shins, stole their stuff and got away cleanly. Every faction and especially the imperium bleed heavily in their little scavenger hunt.
@kristiankristiansen3331 they only attacked the Imperium and Tau. Now with a united force led by a Primarch, the Dark Angels Legion will be wanting revenge. The Necrons and Silent King who beat a C'tan have more then enough power to slap Abbadon down. The Eldar have a harder time but have an Avatar of their God to help so can absolutely mess up the plan of Abbadon when they helped stop Magnus reach Terra and he is far more powerful then Abbadon or Vashtorr.
@@eichler721 ahh, but you are wrong. The Arks fleets attack every faction, and no faction had anything near a coordinated response. If all were to unite, yes they could beat any single faction, but that will never happen.
@kristiankristiansen3331 let's look at xenos the only Necrons they hurt was a sleeping dynasty and then they ran away and the Necron Lord started coming after them and destroying Chaos elements. Then the Eldar the Craftworlds all repelled the Arks even though they caused damage they didn't succeed in destroying any, the Drukari also helped repel the Arks and their home was not damaged. The Orks one small warband was messed up but the trillions of Orcs overall didn't care. The Leagues got damaged but destroyed and pushed the Arcs out. Even the Farsight Enclaves survived the Arcs but did take some massive damage for the small empire, the Tyranids that fought the Arcs also won. The main force that got hurt from the Arcs was Imperium and they got a united Dark Angels Legion and returned Primarch in return. Vashtorr and Abbadon got the Artifacts but not the weapon so they won that part but not overall yet.
@@eichler721 I didn't say, that the Arks campaign did major damage to every faction, but it did do damage. Orks and Nids don't care, true but neither are they going to act coordinated against Abaddon. The necrons lost some few forces, and gave about as good as they got. The Imperium lost a full Crusade Fleet, several planets worth of stuff and they didn't get a United First Legion. They had that already in secret. And said Legion bleed massively in terms of ships and marines. This wasn't a kill all war. This was shopping for Chaos, punching every faction simultaneously. And they won. Hell, because Abaddon rented the Arks out to outside Chaos warlords, his personal forces lost very little. I am not saying he somehow won the long war or are going to beat every major warleader from every race all at once now, but look at the facts; He wanted resources from every corner of space, and nothing could stop him or coordinate a sufficient response. And the Imperiums best counterpunch failed badly.
So many successor chapters answered the Dark Angels' call that the force that attacked 'Caliban' was essentially the I Legion reborn with Azrael acting as the Legion Master
Well, Abaddon didn't really have anything to do with the Lions return. He tried to prevent Guillimans but The Lions came completely out of left field. It's certainly not great for his plans, but the Warmaster is a professional. He will adapt.

Not likely. I am not saying Abaddon could win such a fight, but a duel between the Lion and The Warmaster of Imperium Nihilus would be a top tier major Lore event. Abaddon would most likely have backup plans.

Rho didn't do the fight justice. Angron was stronger and more powerful than the Lion, who won/survived thanks to the Emperors shield alone. The fight is very long and close.
@@Kristian.B.KristiansenPeople keep taking credit away from The Lion simply because of the shield. That's not really fair to the Lion because any other Primarch loses this fight. Even if Guilliman had the Shield AND the sword, he still loses.
@@BM-wf9uf ohh that wasn't my intention. The Lion displayed his usual supreme skill, focus and supernatural talent. But without the perfect Demonic counter the Shield gave him, its clear he would have lost. Angrons raw superiority in strength, power and durability would have overwhelmed him. Any blow he could land with Fealty, Angron could and did simply ignore/heal from. Only the Emperors Aegis could output enough DPS to banish Angron.
I keep picturing lion yelling at the kids cause there not getting along, just like a dad and his sons won't stop fighting all the time. Yelling at azreal to be nice or he's gonna have to whoop some ass haha
The problems I found with this story is, it was an outcome with the story bent to fit the outcome. Why did the massive Dark Angel fleets not bombard Wormwood? Why did they teleport and drop down to take massive casualties (and to certain characters who now need to be made Primaris to survive) only to just leave? Vashtor just shows up, twirls his mechanical moustache and gets his prize. Abaddon the failure has to be given a win because nobody takes him serious at all. How could Azrael, the supreme Grand Master fail to recognize the Fallen face to face? The writing for the battle read like 10 kids all chasing a soccer ball.
I agree, Azrael choices make no sense except to advance the plot. There was nothing to gain on the planet, should just have bombarded it from orbit. Also falling into a trap knowingly is pretty dumb, particularly considering if the Lion didn't show up ( something that was not part of Azrael plan) the unforgiven would have been wiped out, or at least severely crippled.

On the one hand, guilliman is probably quite upset about the various sons of the lions peacing out, but once he hears about the Lion's return and that they've all rallied around him, in addition to the Lion's Enclave in Imperium Nihilus, he probably will be quite content to set the Lion to the task of maintaining and expanding that Enclave in all directions. Without the Tichulchal engine, the rock will likely have greater issues navigating the warp, so once it's in imperium nihilus it'll have trouble moving around there. The Imperium also has no idea what abadon and vashtorr are looking for or where they might next strike, not to mention there are still innumerable arcs of omen running around, each a severe threat on their own.
They attack the web way, and fight Jaghatai Khan, who is stuck in warp time delay.
Can't wait to read about their reunion. I think it will be one of great warmth and cheere. Truly, I think they will both be so overwhelmed to see another, and forget all past grudges. JOHNSON will finally be War Master of the imperium. Roubout will be Regent.
Just finished the Lion, Son of the Forrest and I'm so happy with the development in his character.

I started watching this and then decided to follow your advice and listen to the story first, luckily Baldermort has done a full reading of the story on youtube which is excellent and highly recommended.
Overall I really enjoyed the story, it had some really great moments. I just wish we could have seen some more interactions between the Lion, Dante and Azrael. Hopefully we'll get some of those moments in the future.
IMO they did a much better job bringing the lion back than they did with G man. I like how the lion just walk quietly back out from the forest to no fan fanfare, planets exploding or galaxy torn in half.
The Warhawk or Vulcan will be next. I wonder if each new primarch returned gets something of the emperor’s weapons and what it might be next.

Haven't read Guilliman's awakening but the image of him waking up in the middle of a battle and proceeding to Emperor's Children them all to death with his fists is awesome and hilarious to me. The Lion waiting for Dante to fall felt a bit cliché but the ensuing fight was pretty good.

I wonder if The Lion will simply take up the role of a Chapter Master in his own right. He takes a play out of the Black Templar's book and declares himself on Crusade, and any Fallen marines are automatically in his chapter. He doesn't want to rule, he just wants to protect humanity, after all.
I think it will change once he realises the true state of things.
Now that he knows Guilliman lives and he isn't the only Primarch he might take on more of a leadership role.
I imagine he'll rebuild the legion, forgiving and uniting both the "Un"forgiven and the Risen.
Judging by the way the Blood Angels were involved, he might even take a contingent of them, or at least they could have a strong alliance and operate together as a sort of angel crusade

Just finished listening to Lion son of the forest. was a bit bummed that no mention of him clearing out an Ark of Omen that Dante investigated.
Chaos getting into the webway means the eldar can't hide from chaos as easily. Additionally the terrain webway, and thus the imperial palace are possibly is more vulrnable to chaos attack.
Vashtor could make an ally of slanesh by opening up the webway and letting her realm bleed I to it, letting Ber get at the dark eldar and harlequin souls that have been out of reach until now and possibly means she could catch the laughing god. Probably wouldn't happen but you never know.
I think most importantly it gives the black legion access to warp travel that's unrelated to the gods. If abby working w/ vashtor or going from "warmaster of chaos" to "warmaster of imperium nihilus" has upset the gods, or if he is planning to upset them later, then staying out of the warp is likely very useful. Webway travel might also be more reliable than warp traves so he might have a simple, but valuable, logistical advantage.

Is it really Abbadon victory considering he is playing second fiddle to Vashtorr plan in his accession to becoming the fifth chaos god, and it is Abbadon who is suffering the losses to these battles and who realized that a another Loyalists Primarch has return to once again fight him and his forces. One has to remember that Chaos is fighting all across the Galaxy against all the factions in the Galaxy, and quite frankly Abbadon is stretching his own force for the benefits of a Chaos Being who doesn’t really appreciate him and one who doesn’t seems to realize how much of a threat the Lion Returns really means to the forces of chaos and in particular the Black Legion as they are the main force within the ruinous powers.
Not really. Abaddon is getting the weapons to cleanly and "free of chaos" win the Long War and rule the Galaxy. Vashtor is becoming a God. They have both things to gain.
As for losses, Abaddon deliberately used chaos forces not of the Black Legion to fill the Arks and act as the vanguard in this battle. The losses were mostly Death Guard, Emperors Children, Chaos Admech and Vashtors mortal followers. The cream of the Black Legion slaughtered the First Legion in the void battle and took few casualties. It is noted, that this was because of Abaddon’s enormous experience and his skill in reading the enemies plans.

The thing that confused me the most was the double page dedicated to the Risen and the Redeemed. Almost makes it sound like they are gone, but Borz is listed among them so I'm not sure what is going on there. I'd be absolutely heartbroken if Zabriel and Lohoc were somehow offed in between the ending of Son of the Forest and the finale of Arks of Omen.
EDIT: My other burning question as I don't have a sense for 40k novel releases is when we could reasonably expect a continuation of this storyline?

I see a possibility plot to start a civil war between the brothers. One will fight the bugs and the one brother helping the other half in the dark.

Cant wait until Lion and Gulliman meet again. I suspect it will be an emotional meeting given the circumstances between the two brothers. I think it clear Gulliman misses his loyalist brothers. Lion words were clear about Robute. Clear he was delighted and relieved to know his brother yet lived.
I suspect that Lion wil reform his Legion with it being made of chapters. But with him the leadership of the Dark Angels legion.
I think that will match Gulliman's recent views that splitting the legions may have been a mistake

Imperium Nihilus will only be retaken from a strong base that Robute has secured for his Father. There are quotes within the books that imply The Emperor agreed with Imperium Secondus. The ancient Egypt quotes The Emperor made. It was to ensure His legacy regardless of the outcome of the Heresy.

However it is saying that The Emperor's legacy cannot be destroyed due to him having The First Legion.
It can be implied that due to The First Legion involvement with Imperium Secondus that was to secure The Emperor's legacy that Imperium Secondus was right and approved of.
Remember The Emperor had foresight beyond time and space. It is implied he wanted things to occur as they did or he had some knowledge that things may occur as they did.
There are over 20k “fallen” of his sons still in this galaxy maybe more, they left off with the arks of omen ending with the dark angels being a fraction of what it was. So they are setting it up for the Lion Cypher and Luther wrap up there we find out who Cypher is, the lion killing Luther and the dark angels going back to legion strength adding all the fallen knights into.
And in the lion son of the Forrest when the lion is in the castle there are obvious hints at Sanguinius being a potential revive. That’s why Dante found him, the lion saved him from death.

The Dissonance engine does not work in such a way as to [directly] enable C'tan defeat. It was meant to fight the Necron. After all, if the Necron were neutralized or destroyed the C'tan would be sitting ducks for the Old Ones.
I got a feeling the vect will return along side of the kharn but not being able to stop vastor opening the vault but kick Abaddon back out of the webway

Plot demands the characters to act like imbeciles when it fits, hell this very last act of this arc started because the Dark Angels could help but walk into a trap they knew it was set up against them.
They came more than prepared. Most of the void battle, that Rho left out, was about getting the Rock and its dark ages world killer weapons into orbit. Chaos lead by Abaddon on the Vengeful Spirit beat then hard, and ultimately the Planet had warpbased defences stronger than the combined First Legion, Blood Angels and navy fleets could overcome.

He doesn't. But his actual speech pattern is a bit hard to read sometimes. He talks a bit like Yoda. But he does give information straight.
I know GW isn't going to do it tomorrow or anything but it is possible in the inner depths of GW they are maybe thinking about End Time'ing the 40K universe. It has always be said in the lore of 40k when all the primarchs get back together (or the ones still alive) that it all done. The last great war/battle.
Where in the lore does it say that? Besides, even if it were true, there's a ton of Primarchs still absent - years, decades even, until those still alive are all back.

But can they stop Abaddon? No one has been able to so fare. Him ad Vasthor just kicked every faction in their shins, stole their stuff and got away cleanly. Every faction and especially the imperium bleed heavily in their little scavenger hunt.
@kristiankristiansen3331 they only attacked the Imperium and Tau. Now with a united force led by a Primarch, the Dark Angels Legion will be wanting revenge. The Necrons and Silent King who beat a C'tan have more then enough power to slap Abbadon down. The Eldar have a harder time but have an Avatar of their God to help so can absolutely mess up the plan of Abbadon when they helped stop Magnus reach Terra and he is far more powerful then Abbadon or Vashtorr.

If all were to unite, yes they could beat any single faction, but that will never happen.
@kristiankristiansen3331 let's look at xenos the only Necrons they hurt was a sleeping dynasty and then they ran away and the Necron Lord started coming after them and destroying Chaos elements. Then the Eldar the Craftworlds all repelled the Arks even though they caused damage they didn't succeed in destroying any, the Drukari also helped repel the Arks and their home was not damaged. The Orks one small warband was messed up but the trillions of Orcs overall didn't care. The Leagues got damaged but destroyed and pushed the Arcs out. Even the Farsight Enclaves survived the Arcs but did take some massive damage for the small empire, the Tyranids that fought the Arcs also won. The main force that got hurt from the Arcs was Imperium and they got a united Dark Angels Legion and returned Primarch in return. Vashtorr and Abbadon got the Artifacts but not the weapon so they won that part but not overall yet.
@@eichler721 I didn't say, that the Arks campaign did major damage to every faction, but it did do damage. Orks and Nids don't care, true but neither are they going to act coordinated against Abaddon.
The necrons lost some few forces, and gave about as good as they got.
The Imperium lost a full Crusade Fleet, several planets worth of stuff and they didn't get a United First Legion. They had that already in secret. And said Legion bleed massively in terms of ships and marines.
This wasn't a kill all war. This was shopping for Chaos, punching every faction simultaneously. And they won. Hell, because Abaddon rented the Arks out to outside Chaos warlords, his personal forces lost very little.
I am not saying he somehow won the long war or are going to beat every major warleader from every race all at once now, but look at the facts;
He wanted resources from every corner of space, and nothing could stop him or coordinate a sufficient response. And the Imperiums best counterpunch failed badly.
I’m going to call it now. The vault is on terra and is the Astronomicon.
I hope we get a reborn 1st legion nothing against Gman but the Lion is humanity’s shield and protector
So many successor chapters answered the Dark Angels' call that the force that attacked 'Caliban' was essentially the I Legion reborn with Azrael acting as the Legion Master

Well, Abaddon didn't really have anything to do with the Lions return. He tried to prevent Guillimans but The Lions came completely out of left field. It's certainly not great for his plans, but the Warmaster is a professional. He will adapt.

Not likely. I am not saying Abaddon could win such a fight, but a duel between the Lion and The Warmaster of Imperium Nihilus would be a top tier major Lore event. Abaddon would most likely have backup plans.

Rho didn't do the fight justice. Angron was stronger and more powerful than the Lion, who won/survived thanks to the Emperors shield alone. The fight is very long and close.
That's essentially what Angron is and has always been. He's always been his own worst enemy.

That's not really fair to the Lion because any other Primarch loses this fight. Even if Guilliman had the Shield AND the sword, he still loses.

@@BM-wf9uf ohh that wasn't my intention. The Lion displayed his usual supreme skill, focus and supernatural talent. But without the perfect Demonic counter the Shield gave him, its clear he would have lost. Angrons raw superiority in strength, power and durability would have overwhelmed him.
Any blow he could land with Fealty, Angron could and did simply ignore/heal from. Only the Emperors Aegis could output enough DPS to banish Angron.
I keep picturing lion yelling at the kids cause there not getting along, just like a dad and his sons won't stop fighting all the time.

The problems I found with this story is, it was an outcome with the story bent to fit the outcome. Why did the massive Dark Angel fleets not bombard Wormwood? Why did they teleport and drop down to take massive casualties (and to certain characters who now need to be made Primaris to survive) only to just leave? Vashtor just shows up, twirls his mechanical moustache and gets his prize. Abaddon the failure has to be given a win because nobody takes him serious at all. How could Azrael, the supreme Grand Master fail to recognize the Fallen face to face? The writing for the battle read like 10 kids all chasing a soccer ball.
I agree, Azrael choices make no sense except to advance the plot. There was nothing to gain on the planet, should just have bombarded it from orbit. Also falling into a trap knowingly is pretty dumb, particularly considering if the Lion didn't show up ( something that was not part of Azrael plan) the unforgiven would have been wiped out, or at least severely crippled.
