Came on this film by chance and decided to watch due to reading comments. Glad I did it was a fascinating movie and you had to pay attention. Simply don't make thrillers like this anymore.
*SPOILER ALERT* . @@vikramadoddamani yes, I wondered that too; maybe there was something in will too, or in other papers. A report or transcript. I think too at that point she'd been living on her nerves so long ... and had burnt all the cash ... so could not repay the insurance.
Fascinating and flawed characters played believably by great actors and actresses. Ridiculous but believable! Thank you for uploading it. Nothing they make today can even compare to how good this is.
A two part British mini series that is simultaneously ludicrous and great fun. Jack Gold’s direction is astute as always, and Carl Davis provides a giallo nursery score that perfectly suits the OTT melodrama. All actors take the silliness of their parts seriously, with Cherie Lunghi excelling as a sweet, butter-wouldn’t-melt-in-her-mouth sociopath. This made for television series says a great deal about the comparative imaginative freedom writers and film-makers had in the 1970s -1980s; a freedom that is no longer possible courtesy of the ideological edicts of Woke politics.
Now this is the love child of Beckett and Fassbender raised in a Midsomer Murder episode. 💯 It is a fascinating dramedy, and impossible to ignore once I started. Thank you for posting.
The total absence of any morale commitment in any of the leading characters is utterly ... refreshing! 👍👍👍👍👍 👏👏👏👏👏 🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂 💗💗💗💗💗 A 10/10 movie, as is the source novel.
Yes, it is, the author is Hubert Monteilhet en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hubert_Monteilhet and here is info on the book, which is also fantastic: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Praying_Mantises He also wrote the equally superb RETURN FROM THE ASHES, which was put into a movie in the 1960ies and is also on youtube (at least it was there). With Maximilian Schell!!! These are of course just books and movies, so the "amorality" you read and see there is not real. That´s what makes it so much joy to watch, I guess.
A really excellent use of the piano to convey mood; in its many shades and colors, sometimes almost imperceptible, but nevertheless quite present in the moment....
Talk about a couple cold hearted sneaking heifers. I can't decide who is more evil, the wife or the other women. And that poor guy! It just keeps getting more entangled every minute.
..who wins top honours; Cherie or Carmen?...both superb, both totally in role, both convincing....but inching ahead by a whisker....Carmen; poised, scheming, determined, cruel one minute desirable the next....a tour de force.
Quite the little grizzly "Bear," was she not. With that utterly conscienceless, vacuous beauty, combining to form the most uninterrupted persona. 😊...poor old, starchy Vera sure met her match. Dear Vera, who could never really enjoy her life, with or without money......."Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive." Sir Walter Scott, 1808. ====== Yes Sir Walter......excellent point. ====== or as King Solomon once said, "The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked......" Proverbs 3 verse 33...all those years ago around 1000BC.
Spoiler Alert: I enjoyed this movie, very much, but wish they'd done a better job with the ending and Beatrice's demise. One idea I have is that she survives the truck hitting her, which would be even more insulting to the memory of the other two. Or, somehow Vera manages to get revenge in a twist ending. Otherwise, a gripping tale!
LOL, I too found myself wishing something "better" for Bea but, as is, the tale ensures that all relevant wrongdoers are punished which elevates it somewhat.... Yes?
@@Weird.Dreams Because she’d burned her 40Million francs, had decided that her life was over, and was past caring anymore (including about what people would think & say of her, post-mortem) because winning, money, image and luxury, were everything to her. That’s what I got from it, anyway. 🤓
Vera should have held her nerve. She caved way too easily. Also, why did she think buying a few clothes for Bear would keep her sweet? She should have given her 2 million in cash from the beginning.
Why is this so depressing? Fascinating, but SO depressing. I feel that These are soulless, empty people. Soulless, empty people, and their soulless, empty lives. A soulless, empty story about people, who are dead inside. Narcissus, all self knowledge gone. 😥 How are they to be made alive again? How are we to be made alive again?
Moral story of the movie - all bad things that you do - will eventually come back to you and all 3 main characters got what they really deserved. Vera and Christian killed a man and covered it - causing them to lose their sanity and eventually were forced to kill themselves. Ber invented a death to herself and was eventually killed
The 2nd part of the movie was seriously a waste of time. Why the writers didn’t end the movie the 1st part…..however, both ladies supposedly die so I guess that stopped the story
A black widow and a preying mantis in one drama. Absolutely brilliant plotline. They don't make them like this anymore.
Such a preposterous storyline, filled with detestable characters... but I still thoroughly enjoyed it!
Me too sweetheart, love from the netherlands
PS This story is a perfect example of how futile Revenge is ‐ stick with "Fate will dish thee all I could wish thee!"

Odiate et aspetate.
This was a good time. Lovely performances. Thanks

I'm sure there some brilliant dramas 'nowadays' if you look or go to the cinema.
Watched both parts, and this was sheer brilliant. ❤
Most amusing. Loved it. Thank you, Kittenpink.
I love Vera's character. Down right evil yet polished.
Excellent - Thanks for uploading!
What people miss about this melodrama is that it also functions as an allegory for international relations between world powers.

Oh stop the nonsense of political intrigue. This is pure sexual adventure and a rockling good time.

Vera’s wardrobe 😍
Nothing fake about those furs....
The Rolls or Carmen du Sautoy
Both things of great beauty
Carmen all day long
She is indeed a grande dame.
I'd take a spin w/ her in that Rolls on a secluded back road any day; along w/ a fully stocked bar (Cognac only, of course)....

Wonderful in every respect, except the music - should have been a harpsichord and not a piano.
