    I am so thrilled to see a video reaction to Eric Clapton and this beautiful song he wrote for Pattie Boyd. I have so many fond memories of this song, back in the day. Was lucky enough to see Clapton in concert a few times. I hope the two of you experience more of his music. Perfect song for Valentine's day. Big applause for your dad on choosing this one. Great reaction once again ladies. You both look WONDERFUL TONIGHT! Love and Blessings! 💖

    Eric Clapton had a hit song called Layla. The Layla in question had been George Harrison's girlfriend. When Eric stole her it severely damaged the friendship between the two men. Years later the two men decided "bros before ho's" and mended their friendship.

    • @loilt5091

      Patti Boyd was no ho and as far as I know, they ALWAYS remained friends...yer bad, buddy. 👎

    Great, great song! There is a long, long, LONG history behind this song. First, it was written about Patty Boyd who was married to Beatle, George Harrison. George first wrote “Something” which was named by Rolling Stone magazine as the greatest love song of the 20th century. Eric was one of George’s best friends and fell in love with Patty (George’s wife) and wrote “Layla” a classic all time rock song for the same woman! Patty left George and married Eric and he wrote “Wonderful Tonight”. Eric also wrote “Bell Bottom Blues” for Patty Boyd. Can you imagine being the muse to FOUR of the greatest rock songs in history? Yeeaarrss later, Eric’s son fell out of a building and died. Eric became depressed and contemplated quitting the business. He was contractually obligated to release a live album and dragged himself to the studio to help edit the album from a recent tour. When he heard the live version of this song, he was re-energized!! He was also inspired to write, “Tears in Heaven” about his son. PLEASE listen if not, react to the live version of “Wonderful Tonight” from the “24 Nights” album, PLEASE. We guys ALWAYS get lucky with that song...

    Cool reaction girls! In his autobiography, Clapton states that he wrote the song in frustration because his partner, Pattie Boyd, was taking too long to get ready for a social engagement; hence, him telling her that she looked wonderful so that she wouldn't keep changing outfits. Boyd also inspired Clapton's masterpiece "Layla", which he recorded with his band Derek and the Dominos. She was married to George Harrison of The Beatles when Clapton fell for her, so the song is an intense expression of his unrequited love for her. (Complicating matters was the fact that Clapton was good friends with Harrison at the time!) To hear the best of Clapton as a guitar player, you need to check out his work with John Mayall and the Bluesbreakers, the power trio Cream, the supergroup with Steve Winwood and Ginger Baker (Blind Faith), and the aforementioned Derek and the Dominos. By the time "Wonderful Tonight" came out, Clapton was drinking heavily and seemed to have lost interest in being a guitar hero, although he regained much of the fire in his belly in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s.

    I am 73 years old and have been a fan of Clapton's for over 50 years. I have been fortunate to see him, in Chicago, a number of times. First of all I think it is great you two are listening to songs when R & R was truly R & R. There are a number of descriptions in this comments section that go into the history of this song with a lot of accuracy and I commend these people. The only thing I want to add is that simple melodies with simple words can be a beautiful love song. As Paul McCartney says he can sing "Simple Love Songs"....

    While the two were on good terms, it was said to be a very happy song Layla, Bell Bottom Blues, Wonderful Tonight
    After that, after the distance between the two, Pattie Boyd
    ”On September 7, 1976, Clapton wrote Wonderful Tonight while waiting for Boyd to be ready to attend Paul McCartney and Linda McCartney's annual Buddy Holly party. Of "Wonderful Tonight," Boyd said, "That song has haunted me for years. Eric, before that it was such a treat for me to inspire George to write a song like that. 'Wonderful Tonight' is the strongest reminder of their relationship, so it's very painful to listen to now that it's gone wrong"

  • @Studio44B
    @Studio44B 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Believe it or not-since this is such a classic love song-started out because he was a bit angry with his wife for taking too long to get ready for a party. The first “Do I look all right?” Was more like, “YES! You look wonderful tonight! Can we GO NOW?” Kind of like that with the second verse (“And then she asks me do I feel all right, and I say YES! I feel wonderful tonight!” It didn’t start out as a love song, but of him being annoyed with his wife. Later, he thought about it, realized how awesome she really was, and ends with “My darling, you were wonderful tonight.”
    I’d say that was a lame urban legend, except that it comes from Eric Clapton’s autobiography. And it is a gorgeous song, because it’s so simple and sweet. Especially when you realize it was written for his wife, Patti Boyd, who broke his heart into a bunch of little pieces when he first fell in love with her. At the time, she was married to one of his best friends, former Beatle George Harrison. She was the inspiration for “Layla,” one of the most visceral heartbreak songs ever. Probably half the songs on that double-album were about his agony over the rejection (it was recorded and released as Derek and the Dominos, and features two all time guitar-heroes, Clapton and Duane Allman both killing it. Listen to the original Layla (God, NOT the cheesy Unplugged version). It’s what a raw nerve sounds like.

    • @Beirdo1
      @Beirdo1 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually, she was still George Harrison's wife when he wrote this song about her. It was written May 1977, and she and Harrison divorced in June 1977... so.... She was his girlfriend, not his wife. :) They got married in 1979 when this was already a hit song.
      Still, a gorgeously romantic song. I love it.

    there are very critical questions when you (as a male) have to use it
    - do you think i'm too fat?

    This has been my #1 song ever since I first heard it. And that was not long after it was released. Nothing beats EC.
    And I thought nothing could top it....until 24 nights. See if you can responde to the 24 nights version of Wonderful Tonight. If the studio version didn't give you goose bumps, that version will.

    He has been in more Groups than any other Rock Artist next to Rod Stewart. He was in The Yardbirds, John Mayall's Bluesbreakers, Blind Faith, Cream, Derek & The Dominoes and Traffic (with Steve Winwood). He almost formed a Band with Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones in 1969 after he got Fired but he drowned a couple of days after his dismissal at his Farmhouse that was previously owned by AA Milne who created Winnie The Pooh. He even auditioned to replace Mick Taylor in The Rolling Stones in 1975 but he lost to Ron Wood. In 1992 he participated on A Tribute Album celebrating the Songs of his Buddy Elton John and his Co Lyricist Bernie Taupin where he did his Version of Border Song. He also holds the distinction of being inducted into The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame more than once, as a Member Of The Yardbirds and as of Cream.

  • @thatoneguyagain2252

    This is a song of timeless beauty and pure romance. It may not have started that way, but that's what it is, now and forever. I've seen it used for the last dance for at least seven wedding receptions. I can easily see a guy 150 years from now playing it for his wife on Valentine's Day. This was a perfect song to play, and I'm glad you loved it as much as I do.
    Write this one down, for another song of timeless beauty and pure romance: "Always With You, Always With Me" by Joe Satriani. You haven't reacted to Joe yet, but he's just as amazing a guitarist as his best friend, Steve Vai. "Always With You, Always With Me" was the FIRST dance at my wedding, and it's held a special place in my heart from the first time I heard it. It's on Joe's breakthrough album, 'Surfing With The Alien', which is a must-have for anyone who loves the guitar. Seriously, your brains may melt.
